After second thought. I believe the US Mint should commemorate the 250th Anniversary with notable events that lead to the the Declaration of Independence. For example Samuel Whittemore should be recognized. He is the oldest (78 years old) known colonial combatant in the American Revolutionary War. During the Battle of Lexington and Concord he helped American militiamen by eliminating three British soldiers. He was overcome by them at one point, and received multiple gunshot wounds (one to the face) and multiple bayonet wounds. He went on to live to the age of 96. Men like him should be honored. The same could be said for Samuel Adams, John Hancock, Paul Revere. Everyone that ushered in our nation during this period should be remembered and commemorated. But I know that won't happen. But it's an idea!
I think the Mint has finally priced itself out of the market. Overpriced products, damaged products, $hitty packages. I do not think I have received a 70 anything this year. I am cutting waaaay back to just the uncirculated and proof sets. They can keep their overpriced junk. Ms. Gyp-some needs to be in the unemployment line next month.
I'm all for remembering individuals for their contributions to the success of America, but it seems to me the US Mint has placed more value in women's contribution, while ignoring men. I have no clue who these women are and don't really care about them. I would much rather see coins made in reference to historical periods in US History. For example, Louis and Clark, Custard, the Gold Rush, railroad expansion west, land grab (boomer/sooners), Alamo, etc. I know some of these renditions already exist, but we have a lot of significant historical marks that we could be recognizing. Instead we have to suffer through this period of coins devoted to women, making pottery and quilts.
