Reducing the gamma sort of works. What did it for me on the x90L was changing the black level. On default HDR mode going down from Black level 50 to 45 brings the black level in line with SDR. On Bright mode reduce it to 42/43. Any lower and dark areas become crushed. The difference between this and -2 or min gamma because you don't lose nearly as much brightness, leaving you with better contrast
On my Sony tv, recuding the input Black level setting slightly is a good work around. Default Hdr: 45 works well to bring it to near SDR black floor Bright Hdr: 42/43 creates the same effect. This greatly increases the contrast without reducing the brightness much or crushing details in dark areas. Small hassel, but for Astro its worth it❤
what do you mean bad? It's better then SDR which actually looks bleak and washed out compared to HDR. Yeah HDR ain't hitting 0 nit but that's only small part of HDR. IT HAS HDR -- that's a very good start. Colours are much better in SDR, screw the highlights. The game also has a LOT of frame pacing issues. I would have expected a better done job by Sony.
Frame pacing issues? I would have expected digital foundry to have talked about that tbh. From what I saw of the performance it's a locked 60fps no frametime changes only 1 specific 5 second segment where it dropped

boiiii!
Seems like only the home desert planet is washed out. Everything else looks great on my G3.
I think it's because of the resolution scaling. It is dynamic res that can go down to 1080p up to 1440p and up to 4k depending on the level.
This is no surprise at all. I remember when I first got my PS5, firing up Astro s playroom and thinking, man and this looks incredible but it's kind of washed out. Is this what all PS5 games are going to look like? Fortunately that was not the case. It just seems to be the Achilles heel of this franchise.
Woled: 98+% dci p3, 72% rec 2020
Users: only 72% rec2020? No thanks!
Games: sRGB.
Astro Boy 😆
I know....😒
Astro Bot >>>>> every xbox game ever made combined
Only peasants who can only afford one console make statements like this. Just get a job
listen, i'm the biggest Xbox hater and even i don't think we need to lose our heads. it's ok if Astro Bot is just GOTY
There's literally zero frame pacing issues. What are you talking about?
Theres no frame pacing issues bro. Fix your tv.
There are not frame pacing issues at all. Maybe your PS5 is full of dust and is on its last leg or something.
Either you guys have bad memory or are blind, exhibit cognitive dissonance, or all 3; digital foundry did indeed report on it: th-cam.com/video/1qhV6Tv1FkM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Wm_Y_wAy6Q4H-yCS&t=221
And the fact of the matter is, that isn't the only spot where it happens - hence, it has issues.
Coule be washed out looking as the games uses dynamic resolution scaling from different resolutions.
@JoShUa95160 A soft image can affect how colours are presented. Making things look washed out.
@@JoShUa95160 Could be VRR related.
@JoShUa95160 Hopefully it's fixed then. I have played it with HGIG and HDR on, and it does look good still depending on the level. The HDR issue hasn't ruined my experience. It's still worth using it than not.
I use Dinamic contras OFF and HIGig ON, hdr on bright ingame. IT Looks great on my oled LG. sharpness to 18 ( it reduces the washed out effect by alot) but ill check your HDR settings when you post them
Looks like its the usual fake Playstation HDR. I wonder if their rumored pro console will actually include the full HDMI speed so this can stop being a problem.
You would gain absolutely nothing with the full HDMI bandwith, this is just how they mastered HDR
@@jonathanmaillard7484 on the PS5 chroma is limited to 422 4x8 in 4K. That’s not as good as full color 4x10 4K HDR.
@@Blu3ManiCwrong, on my LG C2 if you set the TV to PC mode you get full 444 chroma 10 bit HDR!
@@Blu3ManiCIf you switch the PS5 to 1080p output you get full 4:4:4 chroma and the HDR looks no different so I seriously doubt higher hdmi bandwidth on the Pro will make a difference
@@Blu3ManiC That will not make any difference. Plus your TV might not even use 4:4:4 if not in PC mode
With great respect I tell you that this game does not need to have a perfect HDR, the most important thing is that the game is good and it turned out to be a masterpiece…
It's 6 hours long, that's not a masterpiece when we were promised a full fledged game and the free one is 3 hours. I was excited until I saw the playtime for platinum being just under 5 hours. I cancelled and will be waiting for the used copies to drop to 30 bucks in a week cuz that's unacceptable. The extra dlc they give you is also fully unlockable so the codes are pointless 😶
why is there always someone needlessly defensive whenever issues are pointed out. obviously it doesn't ruin the game, but issues don't get resolved unless they're pointed out and discussed.
@@Blu3ManiCHighly doubt you have a PS5. You're probably an xbox fanboy 😅
@@Blu3ManiCIt's 6 hours if you speed run it and ignore all the collectibles and don't play the bonus stages 🤡
@@MichaelM28 it’s a 6 hour platinum… that’s the entire game.
HDR is irrelevant in a children's game I don't imagine many 10 year olds playing on a 5k OLED TV to be honest.
Guess Rated E for Everyone means Everyone under 10 to you
Buy a Samsung tv that has real colors instead of lg trash and then complain about color pop
I have the S95C....
Samsung…eww. No thanks. There’s LG, and Panasonic. Some of Sony’s high end sets are also ok. But Samsungs are terrible. I made that mistake once and won’t make it ever again. Absolutely garbage TV’s.
LG G series TV's are the best though?.... Like thee best!
astro bot playroom had a beautiful hdr I'm disappointed🥲
Does Astro's Playroom have HDR? It has no option for HDR. Is it just one of those games with HDR on without you knowing?
@@WllKiedSnake yes beautifull hdr
@TreasureHunter83260 Kinda like how L.A. Noire has HDR but doesn't tell you. That game you have to use Dynamic Tone Mapping and not HGIG though as it's HDR implementation was implemented before HGIG was a thing so interiors look way to dark with HGIG.
Hope the will fix this asap
