Hi! Thanks for stopping by. In this video, I am sharing what my role was in the primary care clinic I worked at. As you know, every clinic and position is different so I am only talking about my role in this clinic. This was my experience. I truly enjoyed working in the clinic environment. I was there for about 4 years until I decided to move on to my current position. And yes, I did make a video explaining what my new role is as a Utilization Review Registered Nurse. It will be posting next Sunday so be on the lookout for that if you are interested.

I think I commented on one of your other videos saying how I was contemplating leaving nursing as a new grad because I left my inpatient (and first) job after three shifts. However- I decided to give outpatient nursing a try. I'm currently working in a primary care office and so far I really like it! Although it's still busy, the stress is a lot lower than bedside nursing. I work alongside an LVN and an MA.. also, I have the option to travel b/w different primary care and specialty offices if I find myself disliking the current office I am working in! I definitely have a lot to learn because there is a lot of autonomy involved, but the LVN precepting me says she thinks a new grad RN could most definitely be successful in this role.

I got an interview for a primary care RN job and I was so excited because I thought it would be something like this! But when I learned more about the position, they said I would be the only RN in the clinic and it basically sounded like I was gonna be the “charge nurse” of the clinic and making sure it’s running smoothly and I would be doing administrative work while also doing patient care when needed. They said it would be super fast paced! It sounded so stressful, it seemed more stressful than my bedside job and sounded like I would be overworked! Still on the hunt for a clinic position that doesn’t try to overwork me as an RN 😬

I am sure there are other career options that pay very well too. Nurses do a lot and sometimes the amount of money we get, compared to what job we are doing, is not enough. CC G I was not certified. If you are interested in becoming nationally certified in ambulatory care, you need to a minimum of 2000 hrs of clinical practice in ambulatory care within the last 3 years. This certification is through the American nurses credentialing center. In order to be certified, you need to already be working in primary care/ambulatory care settings. I hope this helped! 😊

Plus as an experienced nurse you know a lot of the sign and sx of diseases. The only thing is learning how to ask the questions and wording it in a way that the patient understands. After a while it becomes very repetitive and you learn which questions to ask. Just remember you know more than you think you do.
