@sharonkaysnowton I've watched most of the original episodes, of course all the new 2004 remake? movies of a parallel universe ,got all the early movies, had the original star trek movies on VHS tape, but one thing that was a thread through all the series and seasons Spock got more human as time wore on, it was inevitable, and Michael is human so it goes.
@@sharonkaysnowton No worries and happy that you answered🙂. It's s crying shame that it's ending. I can see so many more stories and adventures in this new era.

i think people are turned off by discovery when comparing to "old trek" because discovery focuses SO MUCH on the character development versus the plot development. its like 3/4 scenes are two characters talking to each other about some long drawn out soap opera, instead of having those interaction serve the plot they only serve to show off a character. And to top it off, most of discovery is the Michael Burnham show. You never even get to know Detmer and the other bridge crew, save for Saru and Tilly.
No it’s more then just character. Theres to many errors and adding things to hyping up to call it “Star trek” it comes up as another sci-fi show but just using the “Star trek” title to piggy back on. There’s really little do I seen genuine of all star treks from movies to shows.
Deep space nice had AMAZING character development that new trek could only wish to tap into a fraction of. New trek sucks. 0 world building. 0 respect for Roddenberry’s vision of the future. Now it’s just some generic C grade sci-fi drama
@@mrfnaf9600 Yes but it was balanced for the most part there were some episodes like when some of the characters were trapped in a hold for 2 episodes on DS-9, I'm 71 and I don't remember their names, just that those were the 2 most boring episodes in star trek history, but yeah I see similarities between DS-9 and discovery. I think you need character development in order to "evolve" as a character. Burnham is the same cardboard, cookie-cutter girlboss now that she was in the first season.
@@Yibambe. I got news for you, I like Discovery and I am sorry to see it go. I also like Burnham as the Captain (even with all the crying). I wonder why you think I am singling out Burnham? I didn’t like Kirk going on all the away missions either, but that show isn’t really relevant anymore.
@@brianhughes701 If you don't like to be seen as a racist and/or misogynist then don't comment like one. But if you do, you have to live with other people calling you out. Simple.
There was no character development with Burnham. She functions as a cipher, a plot facilitator. Her character is whatever the current episodes story requires her to be. Season one she was a Mary Sue. Season 2 Space Jesus Season three the Chosen one etc. The character does not learn from their mistakes. Instead, her mistakes turn out not to be mistakes. Anyone who called her on her mistakes ends up apologizing to her by the end of the season saying she was right all along. Usually just before they die. She is not a team player. Season 3 she was demoted for acting on her own. So how did she become captain? The writers set up closest friends, Saru and Tilly, to fail. So, she could single handedly "rescue" the crew. As captain she is the parent that runs out to the softball field to catch the pop fly for her child. A poorly written character from day one.
Well said, she also had no weaknesses to over come,no personality faults to subvert,etc,etc,..She wanted Tilly as her no-1,Tilly is a weak crew-member mentally and physically, tho she's smart at some things,but,very-POOR-leadership skills. The other bridge crew were never given storylines or character developement so we'd care about them, most of the storylines were about Burnham or Saru. STD could've been so much better addressing aii these issues you and I mentioned.
@@kerry-j4m I would call Tilly a poorly written character not weak. Good writers would have Tilly make mistakes and learn from them. She could have had a steady growth rate from there assuming more and more responsibility. However the writers were not good and they wrote themselves in a corner demoting Burnham as part of her ‘redemption’ arc. So when they needed a new first officer none of the bridge crew characters were developed enough to take the role. ( also they needed to use a series regular so they would not have to pay a recurring actor more) The actress playing Tilly has gotten unfair criticisms but the entire blame falls on the writing.
@@ericcousino2068 The reason I call her weak is because she's over-weight and not in shape, which you need to be in Starfleet. Some deadly encounters involve lots of running for your-LIFE,can't run long distances while you're very over-weight. I'm figuring since the episodes seasons are only 10 episodes,it's why the writers focused on the lead actor-Burnham-and-Saru at times.
@@kerry-j4m she is not overweight. Not rail thin by Hollywood Standards either. I served with both men and women that were her weight or more and they had no problems performing their duties.
