  • PSYCHO by Robert Bloch, read by Kevin McCartney. Abridged.
Published in 1959, Psycho, along with Norman Bates and his never aging mother gained international fame with the release of Alfred Hitchcock’s film version of Psycho in 1960. Since then, millions have been unnerved by Bloch and Hitchcock’s respective masterpieces.
Quotes: We all go a little mad sometimes.
Headaches are like resolutions; you forget them once they stop hurting.
ROBERT BLOCH: (1917-1994) had his interest in horror sparked after attending the silent film Phantom of the Opera starring Lon Chaney which gave him nightmares. At age 17 Robert sold his first short story, The Secret of the Tomb, to Weird Tales magazine. Throughout his prolific career he wrote for magazines, radio shows, vaudeville, and even for a political campaign. The politician won but reneged on paying Bloch money promised. Bloch wrote 39 episodes for the radio program Stay Tuned for Terror. Only two episodes survive. One about Lizzie Bordon is on TH-cam (Lizzie Bordon took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks… and when she was done, she gave her father forty-one.) Mr. Bloch’s first novel The Scarf was published in 1947. Other books include; This Crowded Earth, Spiderweb, Firebug, It’s all in your Mind. Mr. Bloch received a Hugo award for his short story The Hellbound train.
    Quotes:
Despite my ghoulish reputation, I really have the heart of a small boy, I keep it in a jar on my desk.
Sure God created man before woman, but then again you always make a rough draft before creating the final masterpiece.
Kevin McCarthy (1914-2010) Born in Seattle, WA, Kevin was orphaned at age 4 when both his parents died during the devastating flu epidemic of 1918. Which was made worst by cover-ups and denial as to how bad it was. He acted on stage, and large and small screen and did some voice acting on the side. The Academy awarded Mr. McCarthy's work with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003. His movies include the sci-fi classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956). He acted alongside Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable in The Misfits, and earned a golden globe win and Oscar nom. for playing Biff Loman in Death of a Salesman. You can see all the roles he played on IMDB.

Very well read by Kevin McCarthy. Interesting to find out that in the book Norman is obese but in the film Norman is underweight.

How similar or different are the two, other than length?

@greatbooksontape782 the show is a modern take on the story and more of a prequel as well. The final season is when it "catches up" to the original story (book/movie) and it is very different but has a lot of call backs. Overall it's a good show, if you enjoy the original book/movie I think you'd enjoy the show. The actors in it are all amazing too!

You misspelled the author's name. It's Bloch not Block.
