  • Hey all! This is some older footage, but now that I have some time, I really wanted to share it. At winterkamp I had a few epic sparring matches with fencers of an epic calibre, so I wanted to share some highlights from these. :)

Awesome fencing skill as always. Great forms, sword and body move in synchronization, no nonsense like bouncing or rushing in carelessly

Nice exchanges Oskar! cool winden / mutieren here 6:20 You stopped riposte with a schnitt! 5:09 What a chad! I managed once to stop redoublement with it, but to stop a riposte just like Leckuchner wanted... that's sick, man. Hmmm, the most epic thing I've seen... if I were to pick one, that I saw live, close and clear, I would say it was Leonardo Salomeo doing feint to Posta di Bicorno thrust in tournament (!).

Oskar, I may have received too many hits to the head and I can't remember if I have already asked, or if you have already talked about this, but do you like and do you recommand the Cobra helmet? In particular to protecting your back of the head and if over-heating is an issue.
I like the idea behind it, and I want to buy one for protection, but I hate the Cobra look. I find it to be a stupid look for HEMA, and a shame since there are other historical helmets they could have used as inspiration. I'm thinking to get one (cuz protection) and paint some lines on it to break the Cobra Commander look. Anyone else has feedback on this helm that they would like to share?

I like it. It definitely protects way better than a regular fencing mask. There's two issues though: sound and heat dissipation. I am not too bothered about either, but if you are I would not recommend it. That said, if you are going with any hard shell overlay, just get the cobra, as the separate overlays for existing ones have a lot of added issues with blades catching and such.

@@VirtualFechtschule Thank you, now I know what to expect. I think I need the enhanced back of the head protection, even if the sound (a soft fabric overlay should fix that) and the heat might be a problem. I do hate the cobra commander look, and I wished they would have used a historical helm rather than an '80s cartoon as inspiration (I think I'll just paint some stripes to break the overall look or something), but that's a different topic.

Love this Oskar! One little comment. Part of why these contests are not interesting to spectators is they can’t really see the blades. If we sheathed them in 3M reflective material or even just bright blue and red nylon covers (to preserve the sliding characteristics) then the blades would be more visible. Even turning them into lightsabers as a post effect is much more visually pleasing and one can see the exchanges better.
