    As someone who was a fourth generation carpenter and spent years swinging a hammer I can tell you for sure that the continental grip is not how to do it. I keep hearing this from people and it had me so confused until I saw this video. The eastern is much closer to a hammer grip but the hand placement is still wrong. The numbered bevel explanation here is so much better.

    Imma tennis player so most grips I use depending on the type of ball I’m getting/recieving. You can change grips I would assume. I use mostly semi western form groundstrokes and continental for(me)fh & bh

    I like using the eastern grip for serves and forehands. At the net i will use the continental grip.

    Finally someone agrees with me that the handshake grip is eastern. Everyone else calls continental the handshake grip. I’ve always thought that was weird, when I hold the paddle like a handshake, I always end up in eastern.

    Thanks for the content! I would say I always start students i conti so slightly open face both FHA and BH then as they advance, an semi-eastern FH closes up the face nicely for topspin drives....and rolling left to semi eastern BH gives a nasty BH top drive low over net. I avoid western or semi unless a good tennis background!

      Agreed. Continental is a great starting point. Great to add more variation as they advance! Drilling is a great time to experiment with different grips. :)

    Thanks for the video. I would say it's the first time somebody fully explained it with some workable logic behind it.

    Very good explanation of grips for pickleball! The bevel graphic was really good. I could follow with my paddle in hand and finally understand. Thank you so much!

    I’m new to the game and I’m having trouble finding these grips comfortable. My hand placement is really choked up on the handle with my index finger pointed up onto the back of the paddle

    Is it uncommon to use one grip on the return of serve,then while u are advancing to kitchen u change grips. I notice I do that. Note. I'm a lefty. Thank u

      Great point! You are correct. At the higher level, players may change grips throughout the point. It's definitely recommended to practice in controlled environments before doing it in a game!

      Also a Lefty, I too change my grip during the span of a point. Sometimes too much so I’m trying to stop, but bad habits are hard to break!

    Is semiwestern reliable? It's what I use in tennis but in pickleball I usually hit the net with it. The advantage of a semiwestern grip would be extra top spin but is that really all that beneficial in pickleball?

    • @Goofymonkey11
      @Goofymonkey11 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, at high levels topspin is a huge part of the game and allows players to hit it much harder and stay in. As well as the forehand roll from the kitchen with topspin. It’s needed to play but will make your game much better.

    What grip does Anna Leigh use?

  • @Trewq79

    I'm working on inventing a new grip: The backwards grip. It's where you hold the racket backwards so the paddle is closer to your pinky and the hilt closer to your thumb.
    Right now I'm absolutely garbage with it. But mark my words; I will become great with it and will be known as the inventor of the new way everyone holds the racket!

    What kind of grip is it if I put my index finger vertical on the paddle face??

    • @playpickleball-com
      @playpickleball-com  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you are doing it on the forehand side it probably most closely resembles a continental grip.
      But that very well maybe in a category of its own!
