Hi Sam, sometimes if you’re lucky you can swap out the timing chain tensioner to the new updated one which is stiffer and longer - this may resolve any rattling as it provides extra force on the guides hence reducing slack.
Tensioner is located on the exhaust manifold side
Hi mate, thank you for letting me know, im not taking any risks, its on 117k miles and never had the chain replaced, so its booked in to be done on Wednesday, fingers crossed all goes well
These cars are a cheap buy right up until you've done £1000 + on new chain, guides and tensioner..plus always good to have the Sump dropped and strainer cleaned out incase any bits of the guides have gone through ,but if you get someone who knows these engines they will know this but I wouldn't run it around until it's done..
I always drop the car when draining the Sump so the remaining old oil can drain out when the car is on level ground.. and change the filter before putting a new filter in..and change the o- ring on the filter housing too!!
I've just had the chain done and the sump was taken off so all was cleaned inside there, ill explain all on Sunday, but I love the car and I am happy to spend the extra to make sure it is done right as im keeping this one for a while!

Do some OEM+ mods and don’t rice it out. This could be such a good build! Already love the wheels
Maybe try to do an LCI conversion on a budget? Could make for a great episode
I quite like to look of the pre lci but I might change a few bits around we'll see!
Love the video, but doing a service before getting the chain done was silly, all the oil has to be dropped when doing the chain, very clean car for its age. Good luck

Picked up the same car but LCI version 2 months ago l, I love it, standard powers pretty decent too
The LCI is a gorgeous car too, very fun cars to drive
@@OfficialSamBryant Yours is an LCI ;) Grill integrated into the bonnet is the tell. Pre lci is a one-piece.
I thought it was the other way around 😅
@@evensisftw His is not an LCI. Its Pe-LCI. you can tell by grills, hood and taillights
You're right, although only from the tail lights which I must have glossed over when watching. The aero package grill and hood are identical on pre-lci and lci apparently.

@@OfficialSamBryant i had this car too and i had the bmw 535D spider alloys on them looked unreal… or bbs Lms would suit this… if you wanna keep the alloys now leave em black just get spacers
They definitely need spacers, I don't think I'm a huge fan so might look to get a different set, possibly silver ones 🤷♂️ I can just imagine how nice the 5 series would've looked, what generation was it?
@@OfficialSamBryant I think these stock wheels suit the E90 so well! They remind me of the F80 M3 wheels
The coolant flange likes to crack on the 3 series I've just had to change mine, not a hard job just be careful if its leaking coolant

You basically put nice new oil in and then proceeded to change the oil filter which dropped all of it’s dirty black oil back into the sump, amateur mistake 😮
Im not a mechanic... I just learn as I go along, at least I know for next time now, thank you for picking me up on It 👍

I get that, as long as you get a good one, you'll be alright, ive not had to splash the cash really on either of my bmws, I would say go for it but its your choice

Nice car but that m sport badge on the wing is a fake and m sports are naturally around 15 to 20mm lower then standard
Thank you mate, fake or not I kinda dig it, its definitely lower than around 15-20mm so I think its aftermarket suspension 🤷♂️
@@OfficialSamBryant 15-20mm was a rough guide my m sport was noticibly low compared to an SE spec nice cars though mate enjoy. Believe there 177bhp stock and a map will be around 220ish
Compared the my 1 series prior, this is a very life upgrade, much faster and in general nicer to be in!
