It's a good idea restart your phone periodically. I do it once a day. It's also a good idea to turn the phone off to give it a rest whenever possible. Every time I have had a problem with delayed text messages , restarting the phone solved the problem. Nothing else has worked. It's not a phone issue. It's a carrier issue and T-Mobil seem to be the only carrier having this issue. 20 years with Sprint and I have never had this issue until T-Mobil took over.
