- I’ve been waiting forever to get my load out dialed in enough for a gear video! I’m finally there with our Bartram Trail thru hike starting soon. This is a still a test for all the gear I’d want to take on a future long trail thru hike, so we will see how this goes - what I realize I like and don’t like as much as I thought I would. I’m excited for a weeklong adventure with my mom!!
I've never been thru-hiking but I always find these type of videos so interesting. Great video! I also have trouble with the clasps on my hiking poles and have been experimenting with loosening and tightening the screws on them with only some success. Have a great trip!
Thank you so much, I appreciate it! And I was wondering if something like WD 40 would help or if that’s something to avoid on a hiking pole lol.
I bought those pants at Tractor Supply to hike in because my husband was wearing them everywhere & loved them & I was jealous! They are the best pants for hiking! IMO. So far you’re the only other person I’ve seen talk about them.❤
They really are great! They don't need a belt, they have a somewhat high waist, plenty of pockets, very comfortable. And best of all - WAY cheaper than other more popular hiking pant brands. I haven't seen anyone else with these but it's nice to know someone else loves them just as much 😊
And thank you for watching!
I always love seeing a gear load out video! Are you planning to do videos for the Bartram Trail?
Yes! I’m planning for at least two videos so the one isn’t so long. May end up being more than that though. So excited!!
If you like outdoor vitals, their quilts are pretty warm and cheap.
Funny you mention that, me and my mom were JUST talking about their sleeping bags on Friday! I’m highly considering trying one of theirs. Still eyeballing the Western Mountaineering though.
Great gear! Especially the Durston gear. Also love my merino. The tiny toothbrush worked great for me, but only lasts a week or two. The bristles start falling out. I think a week is what their website suggests. The 750 ml bottle with a sports cap works in the front bottle pocket on the Kakwa. The 1 liter is too tall for that pocket so I put one 1 liter in my side pocket with my sawyer filter on top. The side compression strap holds it in with the Sawyer on top. That is a great base weight.
@hikingmovie thank you! I do love my durston gear but I haven’t used the tent enough to love it. So I’m hoping this trail does it. Didn’t realize the tiny toothbrush was only made to last a week. I’ll definitely do something more heavy duty instead of that after this hike. And I’m happy with the base weight, especially since after everything is added it’s only about 26. I don’t think that’s bad at all! Thanks for watching 😁
Great video. Have a blast on the trail! Remember that you should also remove the weight of your propane, too, from your pack weight to get to your base weight. So the good news is that your base weight is even lower than you thought!👍
Thank you! I’m so excited I can’t wait to get out there! And good to know, I didn’t know the propane didn’t count lol
Awesome gear list.
Enjoy your adventure and happy trails from the Netherlands 🐾
Thank you so much 😊
Umbrella is good for people who wear glasses. Reduces how often you have to wipe your lenses when raining.
Yes good point! So far I’ve used it one day on this trail but it was so great. I am now a big fan of the hiking umbrella lol
Where is the Bartram trail? (I realize I could google it... but then you wouldnt get the engagement from the comment lol)
LOL thank you! Bartram Trail goes from GA to NC, or vice versa. The GA terminus is at or close to Russell Bridge, and the NC terminus is technically on Cheoah Bald. We are starting at Stecoah Gap on the AT and following it 5 miles until is meets the end point of the Bartram Trail.
@hikingwithrae Nice! I'll subscribe so I can follow!
I dont have any big thru hike planned this spring or summer.. just a few over nighters... but We'll be doing the Maah Daah Hey trail in North Dakota through the badlands in September!
@thegregescape thank you! And that’s going to be great! I’ll have to follow along as well, I’d like to see that hike!
