    The car is a Austin A40 Somerset made by 'Austin of England', the rear wing looks like a 'new old stock' panel, glad it's getting sorted rather than being broken for spares, these old classic cars will out live these modern Euro-Boxes as they were built like tanks, I bet Chris at SRUK would have loved to have got his hands on it to repair, the used doors I would guess he would have got from other members of the Austin Counties Club, the amount of used & new spares for many classic cars scattered around the world you'd be amazed, I've got various new old stock original factory panels for my 60 plus year old Austin

    Absolutely amazing job guys on this 70 year old A40 Somerset .The long term owner must have been heartbroken after the unfortunate accident , feel his pain but he must have been brought to tears to see her brought back to health , by skilled guys who would never have remembered when such cars were still a common sight !.

    Those Somersets are such unique looking motors. I remember them from my childhood... I used to think they were massive compared to their smaller cousins, the A35s.
    They did a wonderful job, I am sure the owner was pleased.

    But you boys had no problem....would love to have one of these here in the U.S., but parts (even tune-up parts) are impossible, even on my "newer" Cortina.

    We have to keep history in the auto industry. I have a front wheel drive fuel injected two stroke goliath that a tree fell on top of it all because of the council in our area it is a basket case however we may be able to get somebody like your talented group to put it back together so I can leave it in a museum very unusual motor vehicle, regards Alan from down under where your workmanship is appreciated because it’s rare here

    People need to remember that the car originally came from rocks in the ground. ANY car can be repaired using the undamaged portion and replacing all damaged parts. The only thing that stops a car from being repaired is MONEY! If it is cheaper to buy a new one than to repair the damaged one, your insurance provider will take the least expensive option. IF the owner chooses to ignore the loss and completely cover the cost of the repair, the car CAN BE REPAIRED.

    Excessive amount of body filler being used ,a real tradesman would finish the metal to a higher standard requiring only a thin skim . Colour match not good either .

    • @douglastodd1947
      @douglastodd1947 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @kenlydon1395 It's been faded down to make the match almost identical. something i never did, because in 3 to 4 year it will be out by miles , remember new paint 2 days old, original 70 years old...

    • @sw6188
      @sw6188 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      My thoughts too. Filler should be just that - a thin skim to hide any slight imperfections. If you have to trowel it on, there's something wrong.

      This makes me cranky. People who weren't there to see the problems that may have arisen, who did not take into account any insurance or monetary considerations, people who are so quick to brag how they would have done things differently. You were NOT there. You did NOT talk to the owner of this wonderful old girl. You have no idea of the back story. If the owner is happy, then, that is all that matters. Go away.

      Realists know you have to use filler. Yes it might have looked thick going on but you do that to make sure you cover the areas that need it. Guaranteed that 95% of it gets sanded off.

    Before I transitioned, I used to work with classic car repair business, and I have seen worse cases, I immediately knew old girl is salvageable. Once they unloaded a completely wrecked 1961 GAZ Volga 21 with trunk completely smashed into the rear seat compartment and both rear doors flung open because doorframes lost shape. Believe you me, doctors had easier time making me a girl then we had bringing that thing to it's former glory after a collision with Iveco Eurocargo delivery truck, but we did it. Owner and I are still friends, he drove me to surgery in that car. If you are ever in Belgrade, Serbia and you see a bright snow white Volga 21 with burgundy red interior, that's my handiwork.
