I think Luxiem as a whole covers such a wide variety of "niches", maybe moreso than any other single "wave" i've seen in a while. Vox ofc with the fanservice/FNAF/ASMR, Mysta with the more slapstick "stupid" comedy and more creative ideas especially for collabs (ie the Luxiem gameshows), Shu with the more tame chill streams, good gameplay and overall support for the other members (as well as his large popularity in JP due to being bilingual and well-versed in the online culture), Luca with his more mainstream Twitch knowledge/online lingo, and Ike with his whole gap moe thing. Overall NijiEN really lucked out finding 5 dudes that have 5 very different persona who can entertain well by themselves but even better as a unit.

Asides from Ike's gap moe, he is also well versed with Vocaloid music, story-based RPG games, and Utsuge Visual Novels. Ike has all sorts of running gags such as finding himself in Jail, getting summoned by opening a soda can, and sometimes showing up on other streams.

There's a reason why, years ago when all the gaming companies catered to the dude-bro market. honestly i think ppl underestimated the fangirl presence in these kinds of communities, or the potential for one until now. straight male weebs aren't the only people that'll swoon and drop paychecks for fanservice from a pretty fictional character on the EN side of things and Vox proved that lol. having the girls and gays on your side is a lot more power than people think
ppl talk like this suddenly created a market for male vtubers, but the truth is very few male vtubers knew how to cater to an audience in a way that would generate this kind of popularity. definitely not saying his or luxiems personality doesn't add to it too tho, they're just fun and refreshing people which is also a major point

Thing is, fangirls do exist, but in the long run, it's the most creative and totally giving their all that dominates. Those that are passionate dominate. Top TH-camrs for years have been guys. Heck, even CDawgVa who was known for the legendary 97% female audience number is now leaning into 60-40-ish range, with more male audience now.
Even youtube is known to be 56-44 : male-female (or something along those lines). I think one shouldn't ignore the gay"baiting" and swooning to get female audiences. But in the end, it gets capped too fast as the best way to get ahead on YT is to be the best, most catchy, and pretty much having fun with the platform as much as possible.
(Growing the audience is a related but should be considered an entirely separate beast in my opinion).

Another thing I'd like to mention is that Vox (Mysta as well) stream in SEA and Asia friendly timezones. The amount popularity Luxiem managed to garner here in the Philippines is quite impressive. The female asian market is quite big. There's a reason kpop boy groups are quite popular.

I'm surprised Nousagi didn't mention this. Nobody expected Luxium to do so well mainly because nobody would've expected EN male vtubers to attract an audience predominantly outside of North America/Europe, and in mostly Asian countries. That is the key to their success, and what separates them from other EN vtuber groups before them who saw the most popularity in North America (and to a lesser extent Europe), of which the audience is mainly Male so far. It's also why Iluna didn't do as well as Luxium despite having the most hype since them. This was because they were made to appeal to not only a mixed fanbase but they were targeted at growing the North American market, in my opinion. And it was only mildly successful because the female audience in North America has not really bought into the concept as much as Asian countries yet. AnyColor is definitely still testing the waters and I wonder if we will ever see another Luxium in terms of success, because it is hard to recreate those circumstances while still trying to grow their business beyond the current audience.
Also, it's not like the boyfriend experience hasn't been tried before in the male vtuber market, it was just that Luxium found the right formula of attracting female fans in Asian countries while feeling unique because they speak English instead of Japanese in that specific niche. They have a combination of personalities you didn't really see in the JP groups, and that made them stand out, and the fact that they could pull in English-speaking fans was just a bonus.

As a kindred myself I want to address some things.
Any fandom in general have toxic people in it. It's not just the simping culture, it's the cancel culture too. They are everywhere! But as I said, I'm a kindred and I can say that Vox community have some of the most polite, creative, welcoming and warm people I ever met. And even tho Vox granted and recognize the hornyness of kindred, he is not afraid to set his boundaries.
On the other hand, all member of Luxiem have never being exposed to this kind of numbers and success, soooooo...yeah, as you mention he already have some controversies and maybe he didn't address it in the best way possible but we must put ourselves in his shoes. Fame is a wild creature and it gets dangerous the most you grow and since the Reimu incident he has gained more confidence and even recently he said that the way Mysta is more emphatic in those kind of situations set an example for him to follow.
But again, as you said, I can verify that Vox is very talented and harworking too! All his ASMR's are improvs. The has stated before that he only think about some plot points but in its majority he works with the mood and how the chat responds to what he is saying. And not all his ASMR's are spicy or horny! There are some others that can help you relax or have a heavy lore in them (like the knight one).
The way he can interact with anyone and recognize other streams boundaries and how far he can get with them is also something I really like about him. He is very polite and just his manner to communicate with others is such a charm.
He can be unhinged and in his channel he can talk about anything (from wholesome to s3xual) and feel comfortable with kindred and kindred feel the same way with him cause he has been inclusive in a lot of ways (LGBTQ+ community, body acceptance, etc).
What I'm trying to say is HE IS NOT PERFECT but he is a creative, caring and hardworking VTuber always wanting to improve his skills and him as a person. Even tho Vox work in a more R-18 tier than his co-workers, they recognize how good Vox are in doing what he does.
And last but not least even tho Vox are really popular in SEA he is also really popular en Latinoamerica. Many of them go unnoticed because they prefer to communicate in English, others, due to the language barrier, prefer not to interact much in the chat but they are always present even though the schedules are not so good for them.

Now despite the reputation of kindred, they all seemed to be chill, funny and welcoming as far iv seen and that's probably due to Vox himself encouraging this type of warm environment more so than most. Like, you're more likely to see a male emulate pewdiepie than Gura, even if it would make more sense to be emulating gura in this scenario. Vox really gets his fanbase, he sees the degeneracy within us all and dives head first into it, like any good vtuber would. Seiso is dead and we killed it boys. Now excuse me as I go try and lick Vox through my screen.

I would say that the Luxiem boys in particular are all extremely talented and really showed on the large stage what a group of male Vtubers can bring. Owing to this as well as their predecessors' success, HoloStars EN Tempus group went an entirely different direction and they seem to be doing absolutely fine with each member already being more subscribed than almost all of the JP HoloStars members. However, I'm still of the opinion that when it comes to agency Vtubers one of the most important things is being able to collab with different individuals to spread your brand awareness which is one of the reasons why I believe that the HoloStars always remained so small as they almost never collab'd with Hololive members and certainly never spread their wings overseas that I've ever seen. Tempus has an advantage here where they're under the management of Hololive EN instead of being their own separate thing and we've already seen one example of a collab between Vesper and Calli which came into effect much earlier than the normal collab ban timer due to fan demand. Once all the boys are able to get their collab game on and find out who they jive best with I feel like they'll continue to grow in a similar fashion to ID gen 3 aside from Kobo who completely eclipsed the rest.

The only reason I knew Holostars was because of mousey's fangirling and Oli actively interacting with them. It makes them seem more sepret compaired to any of the girls in Hololive, almost like covor is scared for bois to even say hi to the girls while Nijisanji doesn't have any issue with Vox saying hi to a Jp or Kn member guy or girl. Holo tempist seam to be breaking that curse with Cali interactions, Kronii stating that she want to collab with them, Bei and Oli reaction, ect ect. Honestly the tempist bois are a lot of fun but if Covor keeps them sepret then sadley they'll just be in Hololive giant shadow, but I hope that won't be the case.

HolostarsJP's approach on being BroTubers and refusing to cater to gachikois and fujoshis meant they connected more to overseas audience. Which wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the fact that give or take, about 70% of their overall audience were overseas viewers back then, and that meant that until they build enough numbers of domestic JP viewers, they couldn't do a lot of local events. Their biggest hurdle for the longest time was actually gaining traction domestically, not overseas.

I think the market is still so young, there are a ton of niches just waiting for somebody to fill them. But I don't think you can fill them intentionally, by design. You need a certain base personality to fill a vtuber role.
I recently checked out Phase Connect because of a comment in your livestream and I found an amazing one: Ashelia Rinkou. I'm not going to say what niche she fills (you could mix some of the *dere words, but none of them describe her perfectly, so I'm not going to try.) In any case, she blew my mind. So there's a lot of space yet unexplored!

This is a cool analysis vid and this is just a suggestion but it would be even cooler if you talked about the new era of Nijisanji JP and their new projects with KADOKAWA and BALOCONY which is called Lie:Verse Liars. I think it would be a nice topic for you to cover because not that many overseas fans are aware of how huge this project will be for the anime and vtuber industry since I surprisingly haven't seen that many people talk about it. Especially for Nijisanji because it's a mixed media light novel and manga project which features the Nijisanji livers like Kanae, Elu, etc. and famous anime industry VAs like Takuya Eguchi. The light novel is going to release tomorrow as I am writing this so it would be cool if you made a video about it!

For those who want to know who Magni was in his past life just read at the end, I really don't care about this taboo shit, if you don't want to know just don't read it's simple.

Our demon is very based, from his views on male attracted sexuality to his thoughts on Star Wars to his view on mental health and being good to yourself, Vox is truly a breath of fresh air. Trust me-- he's a lot more than just fan service. @@ausgod538 Idk, It's pretty normal for people to think Nijisanji is not popular just because they don't see much news in English about them (you hardly hear about NijiJP from those "vtuber news" youtube channels).
If he really did mean NijiEN in that part I was originally referring to, and knew that Nijisanji as a whole was popular, he would have made a little bit more Niji related videos. In my opinion, his past Niji related videos are pretty bland: they lack research, he gives false information and not very compelling analysis/theories etc.
So it's pretty obvious he doesn't see Nijisanji as a big deal (or sees them as a lesser) compare to Hololive, and maybe sees Nijisanji's popularity as some sort of luck.
Everything what I wrote is just my observation btw

I'm going to put this here, whoever reads this thanks, and sorry for the many possible typos
I get you not vibing with the content a vtuber makes, nor their humor, nor their fanbase. Vox is also worthy of getting criticism because like every person out there he is human and we make mistakes (even more when you are suddenly followed by so many people in such a little time and you don't know how to deal with them) but why so many can't see the hard work that he put in to get where he is and only can put "targets to fujoshis" "most of his fanbase is chinese" "give x a few months and we will see"
This looks like a child playground orz
I find it very interesting to see what causes an individual in this industry to grow since it's fairly new and changes fast, yet people still only care about company war or down play someone's efforts and talents if they are not of their liking or in the company they like (don't be a fan of any kind of company to start with, be a fan of the talent)
Before anyone comes and says I'm a Luxiem simp or whatever, I find Tempus growth amazing, I don't follow them closely but their streams are very entertaining and pull very good numbers taking into account the sub count, they can only go up and I'm very happy to see people stayed for them despite the looks of their models.
Reason why? They are good entertainments so are Luxiem, they just cater different audiences. (Vesper's meme recreations were amazing, arteets)
If you don't like the sexual content/jokes that's valid (I don't enjoy Vox's ASMR) but there is more to them that just that. Mysta doesn't even make that many dirty jokes nowdays. This proves that first impressions are very difficult to change and even harder for people to give streamers a second chance.
Finally, the whole their fanbase is Chinese, putting everyone from one country as if they are all the same is never good, yes, there very extreme fans there, as so there are in other countries. I have seen some Chinese nijien fans enjoy the Tempus boys as well.
My point with this, I know asking the internet to have a more in depth talk about any topic is hard but it just gets boring to see the company war everywhere. Let's see people as case by case because that's what people are, their own thing and also enjoy the funny 2D people that makes content for us without fighting, thank you for reading :')

      @ledieumort ปีที่แล้ว +10

I have no doubt he has more to offer than just the "naughty" content, but let's be honest here and accept what made his popularity explode; it's a honey trap for down bad girls/gays/bis and we already saw it with how extreme they could be and how they minimize a serious talk commenting their classic "daddy" quotes; the thing about the chinese audience being the main one is meaningless to an extent, so that doesn't count for now
