    Oh, right! One more thing about the sacrifices/costs of joining an agency; your content does not belong to you unless it's stated otherwise in your contract. Compile every piece of knowledge you'd like to share in this comment thread;

      Even Callie's music? I knew they got a cut but also the whole copyright too!? Though I at least understand the IP of the model and likeness of the vtuber belongs to Cover. We have a direct case study of Kizuna Ai as how that works.

    • @Blue_Spirit7
      @Blue_Spirit7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +153

      @@ceresbane I believe its common in every corporation that what is done by a employee in working hours belongs to the company, in Calli's music my guess would be that either she graduates but still gets a cut from music streaming OR it goes the Rushia way and it all gets nuked, OR maybe even the Coco way and it's just there, standing, menacingly.

    • @ceresbane
      @ceresbane 2 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      @@Blue_Spirit7 I wonder if Coco still gets royalties. If I recall Japanese law in particular, the creator has certain privileges. The only extent I know is you need permission from a manga or book author to use the story or characters in the book. Technically no fee needed but its often agreed that you pay a fee to be given the permission. So with that in mind, surely musicians have some kinda authorial ownership of their music.
      And Japanese artists have the right to give or deny permission in using their music in stuff.

    • @theultramage
      @theultramage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      Oh god yes, be sure to thoroughly study the licensing terms related to your contract. And if you intend to invest a lot of your own money (and/or your viewers'), try to negotiate/buy as much ownership as you can. The dream is to get full ownership and performance rights for the character, their video and music, and their channel.
      The agency only allocates a certain budget for sponsoring the creation of their talents' original songs, animated videos, live2d and 3d models, and merchandise. Any more than that has to be funded by the talents themselves. So imagine you commisioned a bunch of talented creators and together made some amazing piece of art, but it will get deleted if your employer terminates your contract. Would you be willing to bet the farm on that?
      Take a Rushia MV for example. The lyrics, vocals and music might be salvageable. The artist name would have to be re-branded on all platforms. The video is almost certainly lost, in the best case it would need to be fully re-drawn and re-rendered using a different character.
      Now take Houshou Marine. Her songs are heavily tied to her character, not very portable. The Unison MV cost as much as a brand new car iirc. Her new MV costs 4 times as much. Like holy shit I hope she's not throwing that much money away on a property that she doesn't fully own and that will self-destruct under certain conditions.

    One good thing I’ve seen at least, is that unlike real-world talent agencies, they won’t ignore you in the future if you apply and they don’t think you’re ready.
    If you send a demo or acting reel to a talent agency and it’s trash, they will remember your name and it’ll be difficult to get them to consider you in the future.
    At least both Cover and AnyColor have said keep trying, so they understand that people can improve over time.

    • @roobilyne603
      @roobilyne603 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes actually, the "show yourself" Do means that we show our tenacity, perseverance to truly join.. Because i believe most people doesn't really genuinely join agency out of passion (which is normal). Afterall, a decent company, even tho they are there to make money, they still care about the employee, because good relationship with their employee can be a good thing in the long run. If the employee show that they truly willing and genuinely care for the company, it shows and the company can see it (well.. Not all of course). But of course, you need to be competent, not just passion.. But if your willpower is so strong, of course you will strive and improve

    I just wanted to add that, some of the vtubers in nijisanji, either applied for fun/jokes and never considered being a vtuber, but still got in, and one of them also never had prior experience, but still got in, and is doing super well. I think the interviewers can tell if the person is entertaining enough that it is okay not to have prior experience, but it is true that a person has a higher chance of getting in, if they had/have an internet presence, or prior experience streaming online. that's all :)

    I originally was going to try auditioning when auditions for Nijisanji. I knew I wouldn’t be accepted but I still thought it would be interesting to try since I was a lot more optimistic and wasn’t thinking long term. When I talked with a close family member about it, they asked a lot of the things I didn’t think about such as if I would be able to handle the stress or understanding what I might be agreeing to. Although it made me upset at the time it sort of brought my standards back down to earth as I realized I didn’t really have a clue as to what I was doing. Even if it was disappointing, it just made me want to work harder by myself and figure out if this is something I would actually want to try doing.

    It is something that you mentioned in the video but something that I think needs to be stressed. When making that impression video, do not try to do something that you can’t do. If you have an amazing idea and think to yourself “if I did this in the video then there’s no way they’re not going to pick me” but have never actually done anything like it before then don’t. Not yet, anyways. You should just stick to what you’re good at. What you should do instead is write down that idea and spend the next few months or a year doing stuff related to that idea and become really good at it. Then, when it comes time to audition again, that idea you had is a part of that pool of stuff that you’re good at.
    Also, if you’re already good at something, it may be better to do that instead of stepping into unknown territory and trying to make something that you’ve not done before, unless you’re willing to spend a couple months to do so. Some of your talents may not be obvious at first. If you were good at drama class back when you were at school then you may be able to use those skills to make skit comedy. Think Fairbairn Films. Something like that may be great to show off your ability to act and show what kind of a person you can be. Also, I don’t think that there’s anything in the audition requirements that says that you need to be alone in the video. So long as you make it clear that the audition is for you, not for your buddies and not for the group as a whole, then I don’t see a reason why it couldn’t work. I mean, I could be wrong but there still remains a possibility. Also, look to your passions and think hard about what it is about them that you love. Draw from them the skills that they helped you develop and find a way to apply them to streaming and being a streamer. That’s what it all comes down to. Finding a way to apply your skills, your talents, to being a streamer.
    This audition is your opportunity to show off what you can do. This is your chance to be the best you that you can be.

    Wait, I'm not sure about the not choosing how your avatar looks part. I just saw a clip of Okayu's ansiversary stream where Yago talked about how Okayu said she wants an onigiri on her shirt during the character design talks. And the onigiri is there. So you can definitely make some decisions on the design (at least in Hololive).
    There are othere examples I can think of (although not officialy confirmed). Let's just say that Calli's reaper design fits too well with the themes she uses for her non-Hololive work, which I don't think is a complete coincidence. (Also, there are Noel's boobs, both in the design and the person, which I don't think it's a complete coincidence either.). So I do believe that in Hololive you can at least require certain things to be modified on some preset designs, and you might be able to request more if you have a good CV so to say.

    Same could be for people who have trouble maintaining a more “vtuber” voice. (Like a particular voice for a particular trope) Although, this one could be easier than keeping up a whole personality since over some time i think you’d be used to that voice.

      Then there's Miko, who IIRC have been invited instead of auditioning, but she got abysmally low viewer count and subs for months. Putting aside vtuber audition things, this is how to apply any jobs based on this video:
      1. Basic and common skills, i mean really basic, something that normal people (and you) do everyday, or in short, you-know-how-to-use-computer type of skill.
      2. Portofolio, such as CV, certificate, or any proof that you have enough experience in the field that your job recruiter wanted from you. This is to ensure that you know what you're signed up for, and know what you're doing in your future job in general.
      3. Your actual skills. Show up what's your true skills and how it will be useful in your future job. More so if you are actually talented and has achievement in it.
      4. Professionalism. You're gonna have to follow some strict rules of your company once you are accepted. Show them how you are able to dedicate your time and efford to your job and follow their rules and targets.
      5. Self reflection, such as your pros and cons (physical and mental health, skills, etc [do not show too much of your cons, though]), your self-goals (salary, fame, etc), and your self limits. Learn how your true self willingness to your future job before you're going to apply because once you're accepted, it would be pretty hard to leave.

    Basically, it's a job. And a really high demanding one at it. Anything relating to human interaction is going to be hella hectic af, and anyone who had work experience with retail or customer service can agree that you're not gonna please everyone. You'll be hurled the worst of humanity in your daily lives, need to touch grass to regain sanity, and be really creative on deescalating your patrons, or for content creators including vtubers, their fanbase.
    And to you who thinks anyone can be a vtuber, it's true, but most of the best ones are either university art graduates or currently taking the course; either workshops or colleges. Talent can only bring you too far. It's easy to think that whatever vtubers do, is a world where 'talent' can be used. It's an artform for me... something that requires a lot of hard work, that we the viewers can only see the end product.

    Worth mentioning imposter syndrome. A lot of popular VTubers say stuff like "I don't know why anybody watches me." People who are very skilled at something tend to think of themselves as worthless frauds. This happens to people in any high-skill or high-profile profession. If you feel confident about your talents, that could even be a bad sign.

      TBH, I always hear this trope about women, and I don't think it's actually true. Though I usually hear it with reference to dating. I see a lot of women complain about dating prospects or how a lot of men actually just wind up talking a big game and being lazy fucks who won't even put in the minimal effort to get laid or seem even at least slightly presentable or sociable.
      And for V-tubing, I can absolutely see these agencies preferring women to men. But of those women they aren't going to pick anybody that they think is boring or a liability. Men may be horny, but not all of them are lonely or going to put up with bullshit. They're happy to be horny, if, and only if, the fantasy can be maintained without involving them in drama. Which is ultimately what V-tubers are selling.
      But even if you did have such a low opinion of your audience that you think they're just shit-flinging chimps, you're still better off entertaining them with somebody who's good in a public-facing role.

    The scale of the Vtuber industry is getting bigger, so it might seem like being passionate and being yourself is too blissful as advice, but it is still the foundation of the audition. You have to be passionate enough to work past any limitations and guidelines of working in this company, while working on what you want to see from yourself while in this company. That’s what it means to be passionate and be yourself. Building what you want to see from this is just as important as meeting the company’s expectations.

    This is why I hate the EN community constantly saying "they're just playing a character bro."
    Not only does it act as some sort of excuse for them to do really weird things with the "characters" (let's look at Peko and Miko or KSON and Kanata), but it shows that they don't realize that most of the chuubas are just being themselves, mostly. And that disconnect leads to some really disgusting things that the EN community refuses to admit.
    Like, EVERY entertainer puts on a facade of some kind... but they're not playing some scripted character. They're just playing up certain things because it's about ENTERTAINMENT. But they're not actors.
    Another reason why I hate people calling them "voice actress" instead of "roommate". VA makes it sound like they're playing a character, when roommate properly acknowledges their personal life separate from their streaming life but that their streaming self is still, usually, mostly their real self.
