I am from Kargil. And Kargil side also demands the re opening of Kargil-skardu road. Ladakh which currently stays cutoff from the rest of the world, for 6 months of winter, was previously, connected to the world via this route and Leh - Lhasa route. Since these two routes are closed, we Ladakhis suffer 6 months of cutoff.

Reunification is good but impractical.
Think about unemployment,poverty,uneducation,and there protest for right after rejoining.
They will not join voluntarily. In many Indian states Muslims are treated as second class citizens.

Pakistan lost Bangladesh with the same policies.. time for Balochistan and Gilgit provinces as well.
India can provide security cover for Gilgit where by it remains independent country like Bhutan. Meanwhile they can charge taxes for the cargo passing through their region in CPEC and make Pakistan pay for the resources it's using from their area. They can use this revenue and prosper on their own.
