    My biggest issue was Iron Fist's attitude. He started off like-able because he tried his absolute hardest to stay kind in the face of all the struggles he's been through. This actually made him endearing to me. However, he later gets angry all the time and constantly whining/bragging about being the Iron Fist. That ruined the show for me. I prefer the "Humble warrior" concept. Especially since we don't have that in the Defenders group.

      TrueUnderDawgGaming Iron Fist my favorite Defender because he has more emotions than the last three. Jessica has only three emotions which are rudeness, regretfulness, and scared while Danny can be happy, kind, gentle, cheerful, determined, concern, naive, courageous, sad, charismatic, enthusiastic, enduring and anything else besides being angry. He meditates to calm down his anger and he is self-controlled. He is very likable and I find him very interesting because he carries the weight of the show admirably, drawing focus as the awkward man-child forced to reacclimatize following his prolonged absence from the world. He then learns to control his powers and becomes a smarter and stronger man by the end of the show. While the other Defenders are all dealing with their own demons with dour faces and grim outlooks, Danny is remarkably optimistic and youthful in comparison, despite suffering his fair share of childhood trauma too. Every story needs strong character development, and Luke Cage refuses to do so because he does not learn or change as a person, as he goes from a strong man with unbreakable skin who refuses to fight crime, into a strong man with unbreakable skin who reluctantly fights crime, leaving Iron Fist with stronger character development for its lead role. Luke spends the early episodes of his show downright refusing to be the hero that Harlem needs. He is aware of the corruption caused by Cottonmouth and investigates only slightly when it affects him. It takes the murder of his father figure and local hero Pop to push Luke over the edge that causes him to accept his role as the hero of Harlem. The city clearly needed Luke before Pop’s death, and it was frustrating for viewers to see a man with superhuman strength and bulletproof skin refuse to help his city when he knew it needed him. Conversely, Danny immediately begins to investigate The Hand as soon as he notices their influence on his family company. When he sees the corruption they have placed upon Rand Enterprises, as well as the drug trade they are involved with, Danny goes into full hero mode and tries his best to defeat the organization. In Daredevil Season 1 episode 12, Daredevil was a complete idiot when he told officer Brett Mahoney, whom he was informed that Daredevil killed Detective Blake and shot some cops even though Daredevil didn't even done it in the first place saying "I did not kill Detective Blake or shoot those cops" RIGHT AFTER HE THREW A PIECE OF PLANK WOOD, (he didn't threw it but I can't describe it) LACHED ONTO HIM AND WAS POINTING HIS GUN DIRECTLY INTO HIS FACE AS IF IT WERE A GODDAMN THREAT!!!! You could argue that Danny did the same thing when he pointed a gun at Ward Meachum's face but he clearly was abused when he was a child being raised by monks as they whacked him with a stick. Danny is also torn between his duties as Iron Fist and his desire to be a normal member of society. Danny's fights were not effortless walkovers without consequences. He got hurt. A lot. Though his fighting is more refined than Daredevil’s brawling style, it’s not indomitable, which is important when it came to The Defenders. Otherwise, he could just step in and end every fight they have. Where’s the suspense in that? Sure, you could argue he’s a little too inept. Danny could have easily won too many fights with the Iron Fist, which would have stripped away the stakes. Plus, that super awesome scene at the Rand building in the final episode where he just destroys the floor and launches everyone into the air would not have had as much punch. Now, in The Defenders, we won’t have to worry about him ending every showdown with a single punch, and there’s room for him to become more effective. A lot more effective. So yeah here is my complete explanation on why he's my favorite Defender ever. I'm not saying that Daredevil Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are the characters that I despised more than Jar Jar Binks don't get me wrong. It's just that I was trying to give a reason. So yeah he's more than a fucking cry baby. But in the end, you have to accept my opinion so deal with it

      OP: “this ruined the show for me”. Stick around to see that’s what he was taught (or somewhat brainwashed) and now he’s going on an arc to realize what he really is meant to be. I find the show quite deep and I’m enjoying it a lot.

    -First i hate him.
    -Than i still don't like him but i kinda understand his motivations and i was kinda hoping he gonna get what he is trying to accomplish.
    -And at the end of the season he become my favorite character and i he really change.

    I kind of agree with your assessment. I can see where the writers were trying to go, making Danny a fish out of water, in many ways still being the twelve year old boy who, having spent fifteen years in a monastery, is naive in regards to the world he's returned to.
    However I think they overplayed it. Even a naive twelve year old knows that if you say something, and it upsets people, you're better off not saying it. After the first couple of times he tried to explain K'un-Lun to a New Yorker, and watched their reaction, he would have revised his story to something like, "I was rescued by villagers, and it's taken this long to find a way back." Not technically untrue, just reducing it to a level most people can handle.
    Because the writers wanted that "twelve year old with issues" thing they also had Danny losing his temper far more often than you'd expect someone who has spent fifteen years in a monastery to do. Some of the scenes where they had Finn chewing the scenery, I'd have rather he simply tensed, scowled, and then sighed, shaken his head, and walked away.
    Finn looks the part, but he does need to spend some time training in something like Wing Chun. He needs to be able to convey the mix of grace and sudden overwhelming power that audiences expect from a martial arts master. If Luke Cage is a battleaxe, and Daredevil a broadsword, Iron Fist needs to be a rapier.
    There was a bit too much time spent on the Meachums. Harold, Ward, and Joy were entertaining enough, and the actor who plays Ward is extremely good when given the chance to shine, but as you say, the show is called Iron Fist, not The Meachum Family.

      @PagemanX 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thing is Iron Fist isn't like that in the comics, the main thing that made Power man and Iron fist good was the fun and lightheartedness of it, Danny Rand is supposed to be a chill guy not a manchild.

    • @sergeantkozi
      @sergeantkozi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jason Clark I'd say Dardevil is a dagger. I love his fights but god he just put all of his points into DEX and almost none into STR. He has to hit everyone like 12 times before they stay down and do 6 flips in between. As opposed to Luke who one shots everyone. Was hoping Rand would be more of a mix but he didn't sell strength and power that well half of the time.

    • @sergeantkozi
      @sergeantkozi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PagemanX Wasn't he very decidedly unchill before Heroes for hire though? In his back story? I haven't read it but I've been told a lot. Lots of people saying he was a very serious and immature character at the beginning and then he lightened up.

      Murderless Crow I'm now picturing a fight scene in the Defenders where Daredevil does a flip kick but before the kick lands, Luke or Jessica already punched the ninja out lol. I love Daredevil, but yeah from a fighting standpoint he exerts a LOT of energy.

WaWard is by far my fav character.

  • @AkilTheAwesome

    I loved the series tbh, but here are my issues plus fixes:
    -Danny needed a mask. he's far to famous to not have one, and it would allow a stunt double to fight. This would in turn lessen the need for jump cuts to hide faces.
    -They tried to avoid flashbacks for some reason but this is one of the few stories that would have benefited from it. Kun Lun needed to be further explored. shorten the Rand enterprise arc by two episodes and make those flashback episodes
    -The hand needs a revamp for all Netflix shows. We need more lore and structure. A motivation larger than Drugs and being evil for the hell of it.
    -The iron fist needs to be a staple in Danny's fighting technique. it's how you differentiate him. Otherwise, he is a more elegant daredevil. which will not be good for defenders. The tape of a previous iron fist guarding kun lun is the end goal.
    -Danny's enemies need a buff. Half the problem is that he is fighting regular people, so they have adjust his fighting skills to compensate for the decreased threat level in order to manufacture suspense. He needs either supernatural baddies or metahumans.
    -His friendship with that one guy from kun Lun needed to further depicted. It would have made their clash more meaningful.
    -Conversation need to be meaningful and advance the plot. Many did not.
    -Show, not tell. Telling us about peoples capabilities will always be less exciting. Danny beat everyone in kun lun? Cool story bro. pics or it didn't happen.
    -Danny's temper tantrums were borderline comical. Not sure who told him to depict anger like that but it was weird. Also counter to the character. He needs to be chill all the time so that when he explodes it means something. That would differentiate him from Every other defenders. They are all always angry about something. Rand should be TOO chill thus making his angry all the more poignant.

With a few improvements it could be much better, I just hope that if there's a second season they actually implement most, if not all, of the things you've brought up here. Especially the part about his temper tantrums... those were hard watch sometimes lol.

      I have to say Finn Jones was pretty bad... I got all sorts of High School Drama King acting tricks from him. Everyone else kind of knew (somehow) they were in a show that would be subpar... Jones thought he was doing Hamlet in the Globe for the Queen! Overacting from the first second he came on screen... Also, this show had NO TEETH! By the end of the pilots for all three shows there was serious blood on the floor! I was disappointed in Jessica Jones pilot until the elevator scene, then was like DAMN! She's got an uphill climb! Not so much with Iron Fist... I'm making myself finish it just because it's leading up to Defenders. Emphasis on "making".

      I totally agree. Although I can see some of its flaws at some points (but not throughout the whole series), I actually enjoyed it the most. Jessica Jones had a better written and played villain, but the series was much slower, she used her powers even less, and at times she was even more confused and jerk-ish than Iron Fist. So... why do people think this is was "great" with her but "not OK" with Iron Fist?
      Plus... the fact that in Iron Fist, sometimes you don 't really know who the actual "bad guy" is, I found it really great and interesting!

    • @aphoticphoton
      @aphoticphoton 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jessica Jones is number 1 on my list then Daredevil. I think the reason people give Jessica Jones a pass i think is because it had a noir, straight up actual real world versions of stuff if that makes sense and the stuff jessica jones has been through while with Iron Fist not saying he didnt go through bad stuff obviously but if you spent time in a kingdom basically, know meditation and really have a good chunk of people at your side to help you then what the hell. While Jessica it was more secluded and she was literally in a parasite. Don't forget the Hand......People like myself after watching Daredevil expected the Hand on Steroids when iron fist came out and it felt like we got the JV team and you can totally tell it had the Captain america syndrome since The first avenger was the last individual property before the avengers and they could not really do more without over spilling in this case Iron Fist was against the wall of the Defenders

    • @kaveiros75
      @kaveiros75 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah... Iron Fist grew up in a "nice" surrounding (although, even this is debatable), but he was in a completely different world for the most part of his life. So, the confusion he shows when he re-entered modern world can be very reasonable and expected. I found it to be 100% "right" and at the same time fun to watch.

    • @TheArases

      Well, if you take Freud's teachings in consideration, you'll see that the meditation the monks taught Danny was not to find peace, but to repress feelings to to his subconscious, leading to hysteria (physical symptoms to a mental illness: his unability to summon the Iron Hand and not fight properly, for example) and other traumas. Add into the mix the fact he never was properly taught how to act/live in the normal world, lost his parents at a very young age and got outright reject a ton of times by his family before convincing them he was truly Danny.

    I mostly agree with you on aspects of weak storyline and the often annoying character of Danny (although I didn't think Coleen was as good as you say). However, my biggest difference of opinion is, as a lot of people in the comments seem to think as well, that Ward as a character (with his "daddy issues") was actually the most interesting and compelling part of the show for me! I found myself waiting for the main storyline to make way for Ward's again. I didn't love Harold, but the developments with regards to Joy and Ward (and Rand Company) were what kept me watching actually.

  • @wildcard749

    I wanted to like it but i had major issues.
    #1 the whole first three episodes is like "i cant beleive that guy is pretending to be danny" "that guy kinda looks like danny" "what if that guy is danny, crazy right?" I just wanted them to shut up with that crap it was annoying.
    #2 his sidekick guy, why is it that everytime someone meets him they have to go "oh hey do you have the iron fist too?" Like they have to set up his resentment and jealousy of danny for taking what he thought was his, but thats lazy ass writing. They dont need such blatant dialogue to get the point across, they needed to make it more subtle jesus christ, talk about deflating any kind of tension that may have been possible.
    # 3 the fight scenes were below average imo, especially compared to daredevil season 2 and hes supposed to be a "living weapon" he sure as hell didnt look like it, it reminded me of karate kid with ralph macchio. That asain girl at the dojo has better fight scenes than danny and thats pathetic, they need better feats of strength to set up the hierarchy of martial artists.
    #4 danny is a whiny little bitch. Hes supposed to be a monk but he is quick to anger and acts without thinking most of the time, i guess they didnt teach him patience and modesty at the monestary
    #5 an ancient shadow organization cant seem to track danny down even though hes hiding in plain sight. You think they would know who their mortal enemy is and be able to find him, especially considering you know, hes a god damn billionaire?
    I dunno it just pissed me off and disappointed me.

    Finn Jones plays the character well, just not how ppl expected. He played Danny Rand as a 10 year old boy, which makes sense for the character...he is emotionally stunted. From the trauma of the plane crash to the trauma of training with the monks, he never grew up. If you look at it in that context, he plays the character perfectly...his fight choreography does leave much to be desired, though.

      Luke Beaulieu I dunno. His training seemed to be all about beatings and suppression of feelings, so I'm not at all surprised that he never really had time to grieve and that coming back to New York would bring all of that suppressed shit back up. I would have liked him to be more zen but I think it fits, even with the training. I feel like becoming the best fighter in K'un Lun became an obsession early on and he never really dealt with his issues.

    • @Cambria358
      @Cambria358 7 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Hamza the actors ethnicity wouldn't change a damn thing because the culture he learns everything from isn't a real place therefore a Chinese man wouldn't relate to it much. I think the only thing racist is implying that only a Chinese man can know martial arts

      Matt Poogerman WHAT Daredevil had one of the best fight scenes ever

  • @Gojira5400
    @Gojira5400 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I didn't hate Iron Fist, I acrually felt that the Meachem family was much more interesting. Especially Harold and Ward, but the only thing I felt walking away from it was that can that Daredevil would murder Iron Fist in a fight!
    1. Netflix Daredevil is a master of Boxing, ninjutsu, Muay Thai, ground and pounding, Kung Fu, Judo, Akido, Capoeria, Taekwondo, Pro wrestling, tricking, and eskrima. Iron Fist has only been confirmed to have mastered Kung Fu. That's a huge disadvantage for Danny seeing that he would not be able to anticipate Daredevil's next attack as martial artists do to prepare for a counter because his fighting style is comprised of 11 other fighting styles he seemingly does not know.
    2. Secondly, Danny never faced real skilled Hand ninjas. The closest would be Bakuto but even he was fairly easy. He was defeated by Colleen in a sword fight and she was his apprentice. He was no where near the skill level of say Nobu from season 1 or season 2 of Daredevil, I feel that Nobu may even be one of the most skilled fighters in all of the MCU. But anyways, for the most part Danny was fighting teen aged hand soldiers who were unarmed while Daredevil was facing real skilled ninjas with Katanas, Shurikens, Bow and Arrows, and more. Also the Hand felt very cheap in Iron Fist, we never really saw someone dressed like a ninja which gave me the sense that both Madame Gao's and Bakuto's faction of the hand weren't nearly as skilled as Nobu's faction. Take the tournament i episode 6 for example, none of the warriors looked very skilled because they looked like every other gang member. Also how stupid was Danny to fall for the bride of nine spiders.
    3. Daredevil also has body armor that would soften and absorb the blow of almost every hit Danny throws at him. (Regular hits, not Iron fist attacks) He also has his billy clubs that he can use for long, mid, or close ranged combat making him a much more versatile fighter.
    4. Daredevil is also much more durable even without his armor seeing that he was sliced like salami by Nobu with his Shoge Hook. Danny feels more like a glass cannon who never really fires.
    5. The only way I see Danny being able to win in a straight up fight would be to use his Iron Fist but Matt would be able to sense the thermal energy as he is summoning his chi and would cautiously keep his distance dodging or using his bill clubs at far range until he loses his chi which only lasts for seven to 20 seconds give or take. Once his chi is drained he would be depleted of energy making it easier for Daredevil to deliver a knock out.

    Its pretty sad when your TV series is called Iron Fist, and nearly every character on the show who is NOT Iron Fist - characters like Colleen, Joy, Ward, Harold, and Claire - were far more interesting than Iron Fist was. To add insult to injury, Iron Fist's distinctive ability is that he is a superb martial artist, so you would think that the martial arts choreography and filming would be top notch. No! The other Marvel Netflix series, like Daredevil, do hand to hand combat better than the show about a character who is supposed to be a martial arts expert. Iron Fist is arguably the worst Marvel adaptation to TV - even worse than Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. That is saying a lot.

    Iron fist dissapointed. This may sound picky, but the camera work for the fight scenes sucked. Theres a scene where danny fights a guy in a hospital file room. It cuts back and fourth literally 20 times in 2 seconds. You can barely tell wtf is going on. Compare that to daredevils brillant NO CUTS, one continuous shot fight scene in the hallway. It was resident evil movie bad...

    while I agree with you about the Show being good but not amazing, I feel like you missed the point with the Rand corporation. it's HIS company. HIS legacy. that's not filler. in the comics, especially in the New Avengers, he is the CEO of Rand Industries. he's a more street level Iron Man. Having his company at his disposal is a part of his character. The show definitely dragged but I don't think the Rand storyline is to blame. In all seriousness, this being the last show before the Defenders, they really SHOULD have brought in Daredevil or (even better) Luke Cage, since they are supposed to have a history together. it's just ridiculous that Claire is all "you need help I know people that have fought the Hand"...but doesn't go get Daredevil or Luke Cage to help out?!? now they are just going to waste 4 or 5 episodes of the defenders to make everyone meet up when they should have had this happen already.

    the good thing about the show - WARD, he is such a great actor and SUCH a complex character, the show goes from hating him to hating him even more and then liking him and then to loving him, aaand thats basically about it, the show is not terrible but just sub par, the main iron fist actor cannot really act that good, he has one expression throughout the entire series, a lot of episodes are really slow moving and there is an inconsistence in the show, the pacing is all over the place plus it reveals that everything we have learned about the hand in dare devil may not necessarily be true which i think might be a good thing..not sure yet.
    WARD is the hero, but yeah not terrible but average but i did like the whole chi thing though, it makes you want to learn that slow marital arts dance thing, its inspiring

      She was so annoying in this show. Her dialogue was too comedic, she kept on monologue-ing as well, and she was always third wheel to Danny and Colleen, and her character felt like it could easily be written out of the story.

    I have to disagree, the Harold and Ward sub plot was very interesting, I liked how Harold linked to every aspect of the story, and I love how conflicted Wards character was, he hated his father but loved him at the same time, he wanted to run Rand his own way but his dad kept controlling him and altering his decisions, he was stressed out from work and then Danny comes along and he wants to believe its Danny but can't or won't because of greed and the fact that Danny is such a different person. He is addicted to prescription drugs and ends up turing to heroin when things get too much, then he kills his father because he can't handle the secrets he holds anymore. All this and he can't even tell his own sister. I thought Ward was easily one of the best and most indepth characters there was in the series. Even though its just a sub plot he was a far better character than Joy or Harold. Danny was a weak character and I agree he was abit corny and not very compelling at times. I didn't like Danny's choices, he was calm and controlled and smart at the beginning but towards the end his motives and planning were abscent from every scene, he was just this fool who thought he was instantly better than everyone and it just came across as cheesy. He would just run from place to place fighting people and losing getting himself in dumb situations. Danny didn't feel like much of a super hero either. He had the iron fist but never really used it, unlike Luke Cage or Daredevil who were unbeatable in almost every fight, Danny would win against a master fighter but then lose against a fucking bodyguard, its like the writers forgot who Danny was whilst writing the script. For me the series was a solid 6/10. Its a good watch but it can be corny and unconvincing at times.

    i feel like Colleen went from wanting to stay away from Danny to being his best friend in like 2 episodes. It made no sense

      + BROKN Yeah, I really don't understand why they wrote Danny being creepy and then had him rewarded for creepy behavior, instead of writing him in a way that would have allowed for Colleen to want to befriend him in a realistic fashion.

      Also she seemed super rigid and dogmatic about honor and then she does a 180 about cage fighting, I just went 'WTF?"

      They wrote Danny that way because he grew up outside of our society, in a place where things were done different. He had to learn that sometimes the things he was taught don't really work out too well in the rest of the world.

      + Panthror I don't see how his creepy or entitled behavior is explained away by being raised by monks. They could have written him differently; that they wrote him as entitled and unable to comprehend when a woman says 'no' is the problem.

      I didn't say it was good writing. I merely explained, what I thought was, the reasoning for how he was written.
      Also it is explained why he is that way. In one episode we learn the monks didn't accept failure, Danny was punished if he couldn't do something and was pushed to try harder until he succeeded. So, if a woman says "No", Danny interprets this as failure, which to him means he just has to try harder.
