  • In this video, you will learn why Ryanair, Europe’s largest low-cost airline and one of the world’s biggest airlines, sticks with Boeing aircraft rather than Airbus. Ryanair operates over 600 planes, mostly Boeing 737s, and has placed orders for 300 more Boeing 737 MAX jets. But why doesn’t the Irish airline opt for the Airbus A320neo, which is popular with many competitors?
We explore Ryanair’s fleet strategy, cost-saving measures, pilot training, and how sticking with Boeing helps maintain its low-cost operations. Learn how Ryanair’s loyalty to Boeing, deep discounts, and strategic workforce management play a key role in this decision. We also take a look at the few Airbus A320s in Ryanair's fleet, part of their subsidiary Lauda Europe, and why this doesn’t signal a shift to Airbus.
Watch now to understand Ryanair’s long-term fleet decisions and how they prioritize cost and efficiency over brand loyalty.

RyanAir said no to Airbus for one reason: money. Michael O'leary played chicken with Boeing for years trying to get the lowest cost per unit - and then at the height of the MAX debacle, he made Boeing an offer they couldn't refuse regardless of any safety concerns that other airlines had. It had nothing to do with loyalty.

When Airbus had the A320ceos in production, Airbus refused to deal with Ryanair. They mentioned "With the prices that Ryanair have in mind, I think it's better to let Boeing have this one". Ryanair was able to get good deals on the 737NG years ago because 9/11 reduced demand for new jet orders

Switching to Airbus could increase customer satisfaction, and Ryanair wouldn't risk leaving a customer satisfied /s

My perception - maybe erroneous - is that the actions of Boeing's shareholders, Directors, the CEO and the workers are doing their part to bankrupt Boeing. Couldn't this negatively affect Ryanair operations? I do not totally agree that passengers do not care on which what airplane they fly, the problem is many times they have any choice. O' Leary is asking for favours from the EU, does he think that the EU negotiators are so stupid that they overlook the fact that he operates with American rather than with European planes?

Ryanair used Airbus to beat Boeing's price down on the 737MAX. Airbus will not fall for that again and will not sell to Ryanair.

I do agree with that one it’s why Airbus doesn’t want to do any business with Ryanair for the reason that you have mentioned in your post

Ryanair have their own engineers in the Boeing plants to oversee the assembly process.

Cuz the 737 max 8 + 737-800 are just a beauty, better and more efficient! :)

The a321neo is the most efficient aircraft of this class by a long shot thanks to it's 240 seats. It's PW1100Gs are a masterpiece of an engine (despite the wear issues). To be honest the whole 737 MAX series was a last ditch effort to even get close after Boeing was caught with their pants down.
