10, 9 and 6 actually remind me of some Filipino dances: they incorporate balancing a pot on the head and using coconuts strapped to the legs/arms. But DAMN Zimbabweans are level 10 compared to Filipinos lmao - I swear if they were dancing that with water in it...

Used for celebration, prayer, war, summoning of spirits, and social gatherings, dance also serves the purpose of keeping the body limber which is essential for hunting and gathering. Dance also helps to reduce stress. My wish is that the whole world would return to daily dance.
Please do not apologize for the spiritual significance of the dances, this is something we in diaspora need to see and understand. We need to renew those connections. It gives me great pleasure to know how much our ancestors understood about the forces which are now out of control because we are disconnected.

I can hardly balance anything on my head-let alone do such energetic dances with something perched on top. Also can we just take a couple of minutes to appreciate the costumes? The amount of time that must have gone into them. Even the practice costume are gorgeous. I love the exuberance, it’s not step perfect but beat perfect.
Are you familiar with the band Mokoomba? From Zimbabwe I believe, and one of the best bands I’ve ever heard, full of dance moves and superb playing. For anyone interested in Zimbabwean music meeting rock, they are it. And their music fits perfectly with Zimbabwean dances.

Finally Zimbabwe! I am so stoked! I used to dance isitshikitsha at school. It was part of the curriculum hehe. If you notice some of the dances are in class or school stage or community gathering. I quite looked forward to it because not all were chosen to perform for the parents. I used to look forward to watching Jerusarema (which is Jerusalema in Ndebele. The Shona do not incorporate an 'L'). It was so legendary. Mbakumba wow I had forgotten about these dances. The young ladies balancing indiwo on their heads were just so impressive. I have never heard of or seen Jiti lol. Whew.
Traditional dances of Zimbabwe Dance occupies a crucial place in Zimbabwean culture. There are about 12 prominent traditional dances in Zimbabwe, namely Shangara, Mbira dance, Dinhe, Mbakumba, Muchongoyo, Jerusarema, Mhande, Isitschikitsha, Amabhiza, Ingquza, Chinyobera and Ngungu. The Jerusarema dance and the Muchongoyo are widely regarded as the most important and distinctive dances of Zimbabwe.

I can hardly balance anything on my head-let alone do such energetic dances with something perched on top. Also can we just take a couple of minutes to appreciate the costumes? The amount of time that must have gone into them. Even the practice costume are gorgeous. I love the exuberance, it’s not step perfect but beat perfect.

Are you familiar with the band Mokoomba? From Zimbabwe I believe, and one of the best bands I’ve ever heard, full of dance moves and superb playing. For anyone interested in Zimbabwean music meeting rock, they are it. And their music fits perfectly with Zimbabwean dances.

Finally Zimbabwe! I am so stoked! I used to dance isitshikitsha at school. It was part of the curriculum hehe. If you notice some of the dances are in class or school stage or community gathering. I quite looked forward to it because not all were chosen to perform for the parents. I used to look forward to watching Jerusarema (which is Jerusalema in Ndebele. The Shona do not incorporate an 'L'). It was so legendary. Mbakumba wow I had forgotten about these dances. The young ladies balancing indiwo on their heads were just so impressive. I have never heard of or seen Jiti lol. Whew.
Traditional dances of Zimbabwe
Dance occupies a crucial place in Zimbabwean culture. There are about 12 prominent traditional dances in Zimbabwe, namely Shangara, Mbira dance, Dinhe, Mbakumba, Muchongoyo, Jerusarema, Mhande, Isitschikitsha, Amabhiza, Ingquza, Chinyobera and Ngungu. The Jerusarema dance and the Muchongoyo are widely regarded as the most important and distinctive dances of Zimbabwe.
