"On the trail of my Father" - The story of Lucky Dube

"On the trail of my Father," tells the story of murdered South African reggae artist Lucky Dube. Thokozani his eldest son who was present in the car when his father was gunned down tries to come to grips with the passing of his father. He travels with his late father's tour manager to Jamaica meeting old friends and fellow musicians. He is embraced by thought-provoking stories about his father and the impact his father's music had on the world. This film was shot on location in South Africa, London, and Jamaica. I was able to understand reggae music as a tool for uplifting oppressed nations and how music can be used as a tool for social change. Reggae music and Rastafari, as a link for Africans in Africa and the African diaspora, led me further down my personal exploratory path of documentary film content that deals with these issues.
