  • “Superstition” Director: John Rich. Writers: Sherwood Schwartz, Jesse Goldstein, Phil Sharp. Joan is upset because she lost her “lucky locket.” Brad sets out to prove that it’s superstitious nonsense and enlists Mabel’s (Geraldine Carr) husband Charlie (Hal Smith). In the meantime, Joan has entered a contest on the “Hilarity with Garrity” TV program hosted by “Happy Garrity” (Frank Nelson of “Mrs. RiCAHdo” fame on “I Love Lucy”). Through a series of mishaps, Joan and Brad go on the show, a “Beat the Clock” sort of affair where the couples do embarrassing stunts. Plenty of opportunity in this one for Joan to showcase her physical chops to great advantage. The delivery man is played by Billy Benedict, a longtime veteran of Joan’s films. He played a delivery man in “Anniversary Memo” also.

Me too. As a child I always watched IMJ. In my area it was aired at 5PM. I was 8 years old when Joan Davis passed. I remember when I came home my Mom said to me: "I have bad news. Your 'I Married Joan' died." Hopefully, my posting of these helps to keep her alive. Thanks for watching.

    Tragic
That this actress was under rated and Lucy over rated.
Accidentally discovered her and this show.
What happened to writers of the last 50 years...head full of straw and any streak of life was very short lived.
After the 1st couple of seasons - forget it- the writers collapse.
...as is with Monk...ran out of ideas...or were inept.
Joan is my new comedic goddess.

In the introduction to your channel it says Joan was born in 1912. I believe she was actually born in 1907. That would make her premature death a llttle less tragic.

Respectfully, that's a misconception. I originally thought it was earlier as well, but I was corrected by David C. Tucker, who actually found a copy of her birth certificate (He wrote the definitive book on Joan, on sale at Amazon-we have a promo for it on our channel). Thanks for you interest. Please keep watching.

@@ciroandsteven2407 It makes sense. Her parents married after 1907. She was only 48 when she died.

Joan Davis was a very lovely and talented woman. And although there was a good cast of characters (loved Jim Backus) and guests on her show, the writing just wasn't up to it. I believe had she better writers her show could have rivalled "I Love Lucy". I know Lucille Ball hit comedy gold on three of her four sitcoms. And because she chose loyalty of friendship over fresh new writers, her last series was not well received. In all fairness, it was really dreadful. Had Joan not died so young she might have found her niche in another sitcom, she certainly had the acting chops and physicality for it. In any event I do enjoy seeing her series, even if it isn't considered a "classic" television series.
