    Trapper Keepers were a type of school folder that was very popular for teenagers in the 80’s. Very cool item!

    Trapper Keeper! Big part of my 80's childhood in the States. I will definitely pick up that book for my son (and myself).

    I buy a lot of used westerns, and I've noticed a LOT of them lately are in hardback, and they're large print. They're also pretty crazy expensive when they're new (like $35 each), although used they're basically the cost of postage. I'm thinking that's because they publish Westerns mostly for libraries now, and are doing them in large print because most of the audience are old fellas. (I'm trying to fix that -- the writing on a lot of westerns is just too great to let the kids miss out on it, so I try to steer 'em to them).
    Haven't read Mark Morris in a LONG time... I need to catch back up on his stuff.

    I don't recall seeing westerns on your channel before. Interesting to see Black Horse Westerns, which was a long-lived imprint of Robert Hale Ltd for the library trade. However, in December 2015 Robert Hale Ltd ceased operations. The Hale imprint "Black Horse Westerns" passed to a small press, The Crowood Press, based in rural Wiltshire. Unfortunately, in November 2020 this company announced Black Horse Westerns were no longer viable, and the imprint was shut down. I've read lots of fun novels published under the Black Horse imprint.
    RE: Cruel Nature: Clearly the author has raised the bar for promotional materials!

      I have a talked about a few in the past - in fact my very first video was a western! More to come in June for June on the Range. Thanks for the info about Black Horse - sad to hear they've stopped publishing

    Canine detective? You have to read the ongoing series by Spencer Quinn, "Chet and Bernie." The first one is "Dog On It," and fourteen more titles follow. Fun, funny, and with the best first person canine narration ever. Give it a try, Ollie.

    Those small hardback westerns look amazing. I’m going to have to track them down. I am slightly worried about a man named Renaud? Being in a western but we shall see😂😂

      Ha yeah it did seem like a slightly odd name for a western character

    Jealous. What a great haul. I loved the westerns with the library-style binding. And the D B Albiza mailer looks fantastic. I'm guessing Trapper Keeper binders weren't a UK thing? This seems to be becoming the summer of the Trapper Keeper because Alex - The Bookubus featured a book "I Think I'm Alone Now" by Ali Seay where the cover leans into Trapper Keeper nostalgia.

    Nice haul. If you haven't read him I suggest checking out Elmore Leonard. He does great crime and Westerns.
    Forty Lashes Less One is a great Western. Another crime author to check out is from a former cop Joseph Wambaugh
    The Choir Boys
    The Black Marble
    Both these authors really write criminals well, they portray them as they really are which is not that bright.

    Great video, as usual! I recently bought the book Possessed: The Secret of Myslotch by Witold Gombrowicz from my local bookshop. Are you familiar with this author?

    • @CriminOllyBlog
      @CriminOllyBlog  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, I don’t think I’ve heard of them

    • @smiththewright
      @smiththewright 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@CriminOllyBlog It's a fascinating mix of genres and styles. Written in the late 1930s under the pseudonym Zdzislaw Niewieski, it was serialized in a Polish newspaper. Gombrowicz aimed to create a deliberately 'trashy novel' that blurred the lines between serious literature and popular fiction. Drawing inspiration from gothic and romance novels, he infused the story with absurdist comedy.
