- I know the 50th Anniversary is not for a few months. But i decided, as i am a big fan of the program, i thought i should contribute something.
I decided i would make a photo tribute to some of the actors who have starred in the soap between 1960 - Present. So here is it.

This is a nice tribute. These wonderful actors left us in so many different ways, some natural, some heartbreaking and fast, but they all leave behind such a wonderful legacy. Their work remains so fresh and strong, and we are still marveling at them 20, 30, 40, 50 years later. You really honor them. And that last picture is perfect.

A couple of years after Fred Feast left the programme, i was casting a schools tour of a Shakespeare play. I advertised in the usual actors papers and was shocked to receive Fred's CV - He was obviously desperate for work. I found that very sad....
Annie Albici he was diagnosed with throat cancer not long after he left the soap.
At 2.01, that is probably the best photo of a couple you will ever see. Sweet and speaks volumes.
Awe I agree. Hilda and Stan @ 2.01. Hope they are both re united in Heaven.
For the younger audiences the only one we can really remember here is Blanche, and by God did she steal every scene until 2009. ❤

That's when Corrie was a great show.
Speaking of Corrie deaths, I sent an idea for a storyline to the Corrie script department, it was about the return of Ray Langton to the street with a terminal illness, the idea being to see his family before he died. They sent me a nice letter with a picture of the Rovers Return in the top corner saying that they have a professional script writing team and don't use ideas from the public. I should have copyrighted it cos they ran it six months later. Bastards

'Twas always thus. In the 1980s I sent them an idea that Ken Barlow's daughter, Susan, should return to the street and have an affair with his arch-enemy, Mike Baldwin. They sent me a similar letter, then ran that one too.
I've actually compiled my own list of all the former cast members I can find who are no longer with us (116 in total), whether main cast or guest cast, although as there have been thousands of actors employed on Corrie over the last 55 years I'm bound to have missed one or two. My list is in chronological order of their passing, from the earliest one I can find in 1963, to the sad passing about a week ago of Peter Baldwin (Derek Baldwin).

Who was Mary Hignett in it? I only know her as Mrs Hall from All Creatures Great and Small. Wouldn't surprise me if she WAS in Corrie, but who was she?

Just noticed you have a list of those featured in the video if you click to expand your description. A few corrections though, Frank Pemberton, who played Frank Barlow, actually died in 1971 (not 1975) not long after a attempting a comeback on the soap despite his failing health. Graham Haberfield was a full time cast member and had still been actively filming in the days before he suddenly and very unexpectedly died in 1975 (not 1979) at the age of just 33. Bernard Youens was also technically still a cast member (albeit one who had by then severe mobility and speech difficulties due to his very poor health) when he died in 1984 (definitely not 1997), indeed he was one of several older cast members of that time who were in very declining health and whom the crew and writers were having to find ways to work around due to their health problems, in order to keep them appearing, which led to Fred Feast (Fred Gee) walking out of the show and complaining in the press that his former colleagues were 'Coronation Street cabbages'.
Fred Feast was a nasty man who was very aggressive when he had a few drinks.He terrorised people in his home town of Scarborough.Shame cos he had some acting talent but he became a liability
Well what can you say about those who sadly passed away. This is the real Coronation Street, not like it is 2day. But 2.01 to me is der best pic of all Hilda an Stan. May all these wonderfull Actors ~ Actresses R.I.P. Brings tears to the eyes.

Thank you i am glad you like it, i agree on everything you said, these people were such wonderful people, brought so much colour to TV (even when it was black and white) they are greatly missed. I know i look at episodes now a days and can picture one of them walking in to that episode, their spirits remain in the street and in the viewers hearts.

@fannycraddock99 That's Christine Hargreaves, who played Christine Hardman, she worked in the raincoat factory and her mother May died in the early episodes of a brain tumor. She had an unhappy life (nearly killing herself, failed marriages, almost marriage to Ken's father) before leaving in 1963.

@CarlD2 Yeah. I always think in the pub scenes when i see Rita, Emily and Norris together and their gossiping. R Martha, Ena and Minnie going to appear in the booth next to them discussing pointless information, and then i watch arguments and think, bring on those one line remarks from Len and Harry and also think, Elsie/Ena have better arguments. It really isnt the same nemore it is becoming a young persons show i feel, like Hollyoaks, and people are forgetting those who made it a success.
Actually MrJimmyrain69 there were two Blanches. When the character first appeared in 1974 Maggie Jones had come second in the auditions to Patricia Cutts who took the role. Tragically after filimng only two episodes Patricia took her own life and Blanche had to be hastily recast and was then given to Maggie.

@fannycraddock99 Patricia Cutts/Blanche Hunt #1, Jack Howarth/Albert Tatlock. Is 1.05 the baby? Is that the little girl who along with her twin sister played Sarah Louise? She died of cot death, the other continued to play Sarah for a number of years.

I never knew her because I am a new fan, but I see what Ena Sharples was like. The show need more Ena Shaples whos a severe character morally on cue and a person you dont wanna mess with. Give Tracy Barlow a run for her life.

@unclemort1960 14th May 1969 Lennard Pearce played Mr Bracegirdle. He flirts with Annie and gets thrown out of the pub by Jack Walker. I think he only came into that episode.

I can't find out for sure (Google just brings up gossip about the actors now, and fan sites talking about the characters like they're real) but I seem to recall the baby was the original Nick Tilsley. The boy who played him up to teenage years was dumped when it became clear he was going to be an ordinary looking adult and the producers wanted a heartthrob to draw in teenage girls. So they cast a vacant looking youth. When that happened it was revealed that the original actor had been in the role since the original baby had died at about a month old.

The street proper had died by the mid 1980’s. The ‘real’ characters - tough, more than two dimensional and with passion in their voices had mainly moved on. Now it’s cheap tat.

@anthonyhist Ye, there r a few people i missed out as if i had put every1 in it would take hours as if you think, i would have to respectfully include people who were in like odd episodes like the lady in an episode in 70's who found the barlow twins. It would just take too long. But don't worry, even though i haven't included everyone the tribute points them out too, as people will think of the others themselves, if you get me?

Nonsense, that's the original theme music from when it all started, beautifully orchestrated and very reminiscent for many, it really is special. You can't be very cultured.
