The Hunger Games is about how society romanticizes pain and violence. It shows that although some parts of the world are fine most of it isn’t, and that most victims of violence are not taken care of. Divergent is about how although we try, humans are not perfect. Something bad may happen, and things don’t always go as plan. You may not be able to trust everybody, and that’s hard. You still have to try and lend people your trust. Although they are very similar in abstract, in the sense that they comment on society, they are also very different. They demonstrate two different things about society.
This is very common among books of the same genre to have the exact same formula especially YA novels. Harry Potter lead to an increase of books about adolescents going to magical boarding school. Twilight led to an influx of Vampire vs Werewolf love triangle novels, and Six of Crows lead to an influx of teen heist novels. These “copies” always sell bc people want to read more of the same concept just with different adventures/characters.

Up next: a blond guy with a hammer goes after his colleague - a big, strong guy with anger issues - and teams up with a femme fatale with a tragic backstory to escape a bright, colorful world that’s locked into competition by a flamboyant overlord; and along the way teams up with a troublemaker with a penchant for green and mischief (is the movie Thor Ragnarock, or Wreck-It-Ralph?) Or that Disney musical about an indigenous girl from pre colonial times, who’s the daughter of the chief; and one day her dad is like “okay, homey - time to come of age and do the thing to take your place” but she doesn’t want to. Cuz she likes water, and it’s like a metaphor for freedom, and then she sings a song about the water, and goes to talk to her grandmother figure, who’s more spiritual than the rest of the tribe, and there’s this threat from across the sea, and her grandmother is like “hey, maybe that’s your destiny - go do that”. So she does, and spends some time palling around with this guy, with a big name celebrity voice actor, who’s actually really condescending and disrespectful to her, tbh, until she kinda fucks up and nearly gets him killed. So, then, at her lowest point, she talks to her grandmother and is like “I have no clue what I’m doing” and grandmother is like “nah, you got this” and in the final act, she saves the day, overcoming anger and violence, with her compassion. And thus, takes her place and leads her people into a new era, THE END (Pocahontas, or Moana)

Even her fellow trainee said "statistically you should've hit a target by now even by accident" after countless of failed knife throwing attempts. I love that you think these two stories are actually this close to each other. You never opened ANY of the books, and if you watched the films you’d know that Divergent is not about a “post-apocalyptic government”.

That's because tris originally wasn't supposed to be the main character... Four was. Although I actually appreciated the death of the main character for once, usually they have to much plot armour.
Why did you read ALL the books if you couldn’t get into it?🤨 And why would you “hate” it just cause you couldn’t get into it? I also read all the books and I thought it was kinda cool. It wasn’t crazy good but neither was it really bad. And that’s coming from a very critical reader.
@@JustanotherTH-camr771 My best friend was reading the series and she wanted to talk about it with me even though I didn't enjoy it, she also told me the second one was better so I read it. After I read it and didn't enjoy it, I still read the third one because I can't leave a series unfinished, it's just something that I don't like doing, so I read it. I understand that some people really love the books or they didn't mind them, that's their opinion and I'll respect it. Some people hate The Hunger Games but I love them and that's my opinion. Not being able to get into the books was just partly the reason I disliked them, even though I know it's not a good reason, it's one of my reasons because I'm human and we're complicated fickle creatures. I also found most of the characters insufferable and I guess that ruined the plot for me. As I said I can't leave a book series unfinished so I read all of them, despite not enjoying it. If you don't believe me that's okay, I'm not asking you to belive me. I didn't like the books and you kinda did and that is okay, everyone has different opinions and way of doing things :)
The Divergent books were MUCH better than the movies imo, while the Hunger Games books and movies are much closer in quality. They even changed the ending of the Divergent movies from the books
I could said the same about this video, both films are based in young adult’s books and a have a heroine but the way you’re telling it just to be funny is a rip off of many others TH-camrs with more creativity.
That is what I was thinking throughout the entire Divergent book 😂 (Both books however hovered entirely different plots. Those are just some key elements of a science fiction book.)
katniss is a likeable and relatable main character. the main character from the divergent series (i cant and wont remember her name) entire monologue is: "im not like other girls"
“Then she meets a Kravitz” hahaha I hated that Kravitz casting for Divergent. Nothing like the book! Actually the entire movie was awful and did the book diiirrrtttyyyy
Ok...but the first Divergent movie came out in 2014 but the first Hunger Games came out in 2012 + Hunger Games already had a book series. So Divergent copied The Hunger Games.
I honestly hate, hate, *hate* divergent. I find the characters too similar to each other, for example katniss and “tris”. Omd as a die hard hunger games fan this makes me so angry.
Wait so your telling me similar plots exist? And genres have tropes? *And* Hollywood has nepotism?! Next you'll be telling me Star Wars and Harry Potter both follow the classic literary template of the hero's journey 👀
its in the title "the hunger games" no where in divergent is there a sporting event were 23 children die, there are 13 districts, and yes her clothes get set on fire that is a very vague description of how tris burned her clothes opposed to how Katniss's clothes were ignited in the parade of tributes, also in divergent the children have a choice at the choosing ceremonie while in the hunger games the tributes have absolutely no choice (exept if they voulenteer) to get reaped, so stop trying to compare these books/movies with your very vauge descriptions and lack of detail and depth its like trying to compare harry potter and the hobbit because they have a couple similarities but the overall plot differes in more ways than i can count. Honestly i could go on with the differences between these two movies for ages but I honestly think that ive proven my point enough for it to be understood "thank you for your consideration"
No, Hunger Games is a less exciting version of Battle Royale. Literally has the same plot points and the number of tributes 24, is turned around, it’s 42 which is how many students (BR’s equivalent to tributes) are in BR. And Battle Royale came out 12 years before and inspired Kill Bill (even one of the actresses was in Kill Bill. Divergent gets crapped on, when Hunger Games is barely original.
The Divergent books were far superior. I like the second movie, Insurgent, just because it has a lot of Jeanine Matthews in it who was played by Kate Winslet.😅
The bird on Katniss was given to her by an old lady. That she gave to Prim. In the movie. Somehow her lead stylist gets it, but it was not given to him. He just gave it back with permission from the game controllers. Because it wasn’t seen as a weapon.
actually prim gives her the mockingjay back when they say their goodbyes, and cinna gives it to katniss because every tribute was allowed a token from their district
Oh no, authors of similar sociohistorical context write similar dystopian stories because the problems society shows are the same!! Who would've known!!!🙄🙄
Yes. There are actually many stories with a plot just like this because both The Hunger Games and Divergent are very boiled down versions of the ya dystopian genre
After reading divergent, ive gotta say....i despise the movie. It was so bad and cringe and they even left out some key characters for absolutely no reason. This movie could have been een something. On the other hand, I rewatched the hunger games series 6 times now. Its so freaking good and the longer u wait to watch it again, the better it gets..
When these movies came out there was a bunch of similar teen movies all with the same stories released at the same time. I’m pretty sure this is when studios started hiring teenage fan fiction writers off the internet 😂
Bruh divergents movie was soo poooooooooor. I remember so many instant where i was sad they skipped certain dialogue and scenes. It felt rushed and same with the other movies
They are NOT the same did the heroine in the divergent have two love interests one that was her best friend and the other a baker who gave her bread? In the divergent did the heroine have to kiss somebody they didn't like for a sponsor to be able to live? In the divergent was there a whole team of people including the baker that made a plan that involved shooting an arrow to a force field so that they could all get out? In the divergent did the love interest get hijacked and tortured by the villain and remembered their lover to be a monster? In the divergent did the heroine have her sister killed by her best friend? In the divergent were their 13 districts one secret district? In the divergent did the heroine kill the leader of the secret district (13) instead of the overall villain? In the divergent was their mentor a participant in the games who was Smart and used a tactic the villain thought as cheating so they murdered his whole family and they resorted to alcohol to take out their problems? In the divergent did a character die after just marrying and having a kid? In the divergent was there a fashion designer killed to throw the heroine off their game? In the divergent did the heroine sacrifice herself for her sister to go into the games? In the divergent did the heroine shoot an apple with an arrow in judging? In the divergent did a character sacrifice them self into deadly fog so others would survive? In the divergent were there bugs that if you get hit by they make you hallucinate? In the divergent were there birds that copy used to record messages? In the divergent did the heroines sister have a cat? In the divergent did the villain burn down an orphanage for supporting the heroine? In the divergent did the heroine and her lover have two kids? In the divergent did the heroines lover trick the villains to win the audience over? In the divergent did they have interviews to get to know each contestant one revealing the heroines lovers love for the heroine? In the divergent when the heroine couldn't sleep did the heroines lover come in and stay with her so she wouldn't be scared? Anyway my point is they are very different movies and should not be called the same just because they have a lot of similarities
the difference being that the hunger games is an excellent satire and divergent comes across as an empty shell the way only an intention-less copy of a copy can.

Yeah, i love the giver by the way, don’t know they didn’t continue making films it was excellent in my point of view (and well, is way older than thg though i love thg)
The City of Embers is one of my favorites
Hungergames was the best
The starving games is slightly better
Hmmm because the Divergent was a Hunger Games copycat
Divergent came out almost exactly two years after The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games: March 23, 2012
Divergent: March 21, 2014
Never notice the meeting of the Kravitz 😭
As much as this can be debated on or agreed to. I'm hyper fixated on divergent, and I really never got INTO the hunger games, y'know? I only skimmed the pages and skipped a few, barely even remember it.
I really wish the two could live in a better harmony ):
But then again
The hunger games
-will not let go of a war
-12 districts, FOR FIGHTING
(Fails miserably)
-No training, just display,
-rebellion starts large
-Mentor doesn't really like main character at the start
Divergent
-End of war, start of another
-5 factions to keep the PEACE.
(Also fails miserably)
-training
-Rebellion starts sneakily and small
-mentor and student fall in love
(Sorry if I got anything wrong :[ )
Divergent did nothing to add on to Hunger Games, it just copied it and made it worse in every way
Agreed!
the books were great actually ! but the movies
horrendous
@@ammlikescookies631yeah the books are great, except that the ending broke my heart, aaand the fact that for some reason Verónica Roth thought that it would be a good idea to make four and Christina a couple, like what in the world was she thinking????
The fact that divergent came out almost exactly two years after hunger games 😂
It’s so obvious they were copying the entire plot
I couldn not get through Divergent without constantly zoning out and by the end I had to ask myself what the movie was even about😂. Atleast hunger games had good pacing.
Not necessarily! It’s just both follow the same formula! Lots of movies do that within the same genre.
I love that you think these two stories are actually this close to each other. You never opened ANY of the books, and if you watched the films you’d know that Divergent is not about a “post-apocalyptic government”.
I love Divergent ❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥 the books were great and the first movie was really good. The second movie was okay and we do not talk about the third movie but the books ❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥 except for the ending where Tris dies😭😭😭😭. whereas Hunger games books and movies were good. 🔥🔥🔥❤️. Prims death 😭😭😭😭😭😭. I enjoy both equally. 💯❤️❤️❤️❤️
I hate the divergent movies sm! The book was amazing tho!
That's because tris originally wasn't supposed to be the main character... Four was.
Although I actually appreciated the death of the main character for once, usually they have to much plot armour.
Read both, watched both, LOVED both! Wish there were more of this genre! Absolutely obsessed with both! ❤️
there are many Red Queen, powerless those are more fantasy but they have the trials.
Did anyone else just hate divergent? Like I read all the books and watched the movies but I just could never get into it.
Why did you read ALL the books if you couldn’t get into it?🤨
And why would you “hate” it just cause you couldn’t get into it?
I didn't like the books and you kinda did and that is okay, everyone has different opinions and way of doing things :)
itd be cool if they have a crossover: The Divergent Games
Growing up, I often have mixed memories about these two movies
Ask yourself the question: which one was made first?
Hunger games was made almost exactly 2 years before divergent
each dystopian anything plot bulletpoints:
Then she meets a Kravitz 😭 that's so funnnyy
The Divergent books were MUCH better than the movies imo, while the Hunger Games books and movies are much closer in quality. They even changed the ending of the Divergent movies from the books
I could said the same about this video, both films are based in young adult’s books and a have a heroine but the way you’re telling it just to be funny is a rip off of many others TH-camrs with more creativity.
Its not that theyre the same thats just the theme of most dystopian/sci fi films
THE SHE MEETS A KRAVITZ KILLED ME
Actually, for the hunger games, cinna did not give katniss the mockingjay pin, Madge did.
DONT YOU DARE COMPARE KATNISS TO TRIS
Divergent is the temu version of hunger games
If you read the books you will see how different they are, oh and Katniss have a happy ending Tris ended up dead
I love both
Yeah me too, and the fact that there are no more books/movies like this any more makes me kinda sad.
That is what I was thinking throughout the entire Divergent book 😂
(Both books however hovered entirely different plots. Those are just some key elements of a science fiction book.)
katniss is a likeable and relatable main character. the main character from the divergent series (i cant and wont remember her name) entire monologue is: "im not like other girls"
Of course, meeting a Kravitz is a key plot point 😂
THEN SHE MEETS A KRAVITZ 😂😂😂😂
And these movies were awesome and I hope we make them again. They hit different you can’t lie
Divergent was dog shit 💀
Ugh dont compare them. Divergent had potential and fell flat. I listen to hunger games books multiple times a year lol. Such a good series
“Then she meets a Kravitz” hahaha I hated that Kravitz casting for Divergent. Nothing like the book! Actually the entire movie was awful and did the book diiirrrtttyyyy
Actually I kind of liked the first movie, the second and third though are trash
Hunger Games movies and books are masterpieces.
Divergent is just a trash copy.
You can not compare the Hunger Games to that.
Anyone seen battle royal( japanese) came out before hunger games
The true trauma
Nobody needs to see the movie after watching this video. That's if there's anyone who hasn't already seen it.
I love love love both these and I’ve been thought about all these before this is awesome!! I’ve always known they were similar but wow!!!
Meeting a Kravitz was essential
The Divergent books were far superior. I like the second movie, Insurgent, just because it has a lot of Jeanine Matthews in it who was played by Kate Winslet.😅
The bird on Katniss was given to her by an old lady. That she gave to Prim. In the movie. Somehow her lead stylist gets it, but it was not given to him. He just gave it back with permission from the game controllers. Because it wasn’t seen as a weapon.
actually prim gives her the mockingjay back when they say their goodbyes, and cinna gives it to katniss because every tribute was allowed a token from their district
it wasn't an old lady it was the mayor of district 12's daughter
@@anastasiagt3615 i think they mean in the movie, it's an old lady that gives her the pin in the market
@@anastasiagt3615Yes your are correct, Madge who is the district 12 mayors daughter gave Katniss the mocking jay pin
Oh no, authors of similar sociohistorical context write similar dystopian stories because the problems society shows are the same!! Who would've known!!!🙄🙄
How dare you compare the hunger games to divergent. (Divergent bad. My opinion)
Yes. There are actually many stories with a plot just like this because both The Hunger Games and Divergent are very boiled down versions of the ya dystopian genre
straight up copying
The only difference is that Divergent 👎🏻 The Hunger Games 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Why are you filming yourself?
After reading divergent, ive gotta say....i despise the movie. It was so bad and cringe and they even left out some key characters for absolutely no reason. This movie could have been een something. On the other hand, I rewatched the hunger games series 6 times now. Its so freaking good and the longer u wait to watch it again, the better it gets..
You missed the point so badly it's a little funny but a lot annoying.
Except that Hunger Games is much better
I love both series. Every time I finish hunger games I watch divergent afterwards, those two are my most favourite movie series to watch
Every story has been written down in its most basic component. You need to adjust it and change it. But a lot of things will always been the same.
Don’t even think about comparing divergent to the hunger games. They never even finished the last divergent movie bc it was so terrible
Anyway my point is they are very different movies and should not be called the same just because they have a lot of similarities
yeah we all know divergent tryed to copy hunger games, published after and way less successfull
He got me at kravitz like yeah man!! Srsly dodnt notice that at all hahahaha
the difference being that the hunger games is an excellent satire and divergent comes across as an empty shell the way only an intention-less copy of a copy can.
ah no wonder my memory is always mixed these film and I didn't remember which one is hunger game in my memory and which one is the divergent😅
I made my friend who has watched both movies listen to this without looking and guess what the movie is about 😂
It's not the same but maze runner is similar to both hunger games and divergent all 10/10 movie es
Please don’t compare the genius of Hunger Games with the complete shit show of Divergent
oh come on, this was clearly about the hunger games, divergent wasn‘t that good
Ngl Hunger Games did it better! Especially with Snow (he is the best character in that franchise! Can’t wait for the Finnick fans tho)
Dust the girl that plays Primm in the hunger games also plays the main character in the other movie?
That's because the author of Divergent ripped off the entire Hunger Games series and even admitted that she only changed the ending of Divergent (killed Tris off) in order to make it different from THG. Lol.
