I love rub ons for sentiments! If you have a die cutting machine, they work beautifully if you just run them through your die cutting machine. No need to use popsicle sticks or bone folders to rub on. Voila!
SO many of you are sharing this tip and I had never heard it before. This is why I LOVE you all so much for taking time for the comments section. THank you so much; gotta try this out
I LOVE rub-ons and often use them - the smaller ones are especially nice as an embellishment for the inside of the card above or below a stamped sentiment. Love the flowers, butterflies and writing. Thanks for the great tips.
I've actually used the rub ons from the Dollar Tree and had good luck with them. It seems the rub ons these days work better than they have in the past. I use them mostly for my journals. Try using transfer tape on your foam pieces to apply them to your project. I pull off the backing off the adhesive after I apply the transfer tape to the foam. It will keep the design together and make it easier to apply to the project. You could even use low tack tape as transfer tape. I learned this from doing vinyl projects.
Thanks for the reminder…I have a box of rub-ons and just do not reminder to use them. I like the simplicity of the cards you showed. This is a great idea for a last-minute card.
I recently purchased some sticky sentiments rub ons. Once they’re rubbed on, the surface is sticky, and you can apply foil, glitter, gold leaf, and/or embossing powder on them. Love them!
YAY! I"m really getting into them more. Sometimes I feel like I'm cheating with them because they are so easy but then I remind myself that creative time is creative time; regardless of how "complicated" it is!
I have used rub ons until this past weekend, but they worked great on my silicone mat. I am so impressed with them, and will probably order way too many the next time I can spend some money !
Lynn Le Bel Hi Mary! I love rub ons!! I use them to switch things up instead of stamps. I place my rub ons onto my paper and the press my fingers on the transfer piece for a few seconds to warm it up a bit then rub it with your preference of tool. The warming seems to help the transfers release more easily and cleanly.
I love all of the beautiful Rub-ons that are now available. They make for an easy quick card when needed. Love that you used them over backgrounds you already had.
Soooo happy to see a fantastic video from Mary. Short and so packed full of helpful fun. I had no idea that SBC had so many choices of rub ons. What a helpful tip for the soft surface under you rub on. I would have used a larger size of acetate and used tape on the back of the card, where no one was looking. Think I need the Bday rub ons for a last minute bday card. Thanxs so much.
Thanks so much for this; I was shocked to see how many different rub-ons they had. The background ones are my favorite so far but that glitter set...WOW
Beautiful cards. I’ve purchased some rub ones lately after watching tutorials. I put them on wish list and then buy when there’s a sale. When they arrive I’ve forgotten in what tutorial I saw them. This video is so very timely and helpful, because I have great inspiration for using what I already have. Thank very much for sharing.
I love rubons. I have some old ones I still use. If im having trouble with them, I try huffing on them a few times, and that usually does the trick. I've only had to throw away 1 or 2 images over the years.
WOW Mary, You Have a LOT of Rub on Sheets!!! I have quite a few but Your stash is WAY better than mine! 😂😆☺ I DO Love Rub on's, I just seem to forget about USING them!!! Thanks So Much for the reminder! 💙💙💙
It's funny timing, because not too too long ago, I was doing a set of Christmas cards. I looked through my holiday/winter sticker stash for something to use as a focal image (mostly to use up a sticker or 2!), & came across a sheet of rub-ons that I had gotten at Hobby Lobby. Now, I haven't shopped at a Hobby Lobby since the start of the pandemic, & I don't know how long before that I got these rub-ons. But that can give you an idea of how long it's likely been. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised that they are still good! I rubbed 2 of them (both ornaments) onto white cardstock & then fussy cut them, as I needed embellishments & there was no way to apply them directly onto my card front. But they worked so well! I know rub-ons can go bad, as I had a set from who knows how many years ago that I tried to use on a memory book I made about my late cat, Barney. The specific rub-on I tried to use off that sheet kind of partially stuck to the backer sheet, & partially to the page, which caused it to rip. Thankfully, I was able to cover where it was on the page with another element, so I didn't ruin my project. But I sadly chucked the remaining sheet in the trash. I don't know what makes them go bad, but apparently it is not a definite age, as evidenced by my 2 opposite experiences with old rub-ons. Anyway, thank you for sharing these. I love how your cards came out. I was curious when you stamped over the first card, are those rub-ons slick? The ones I have have like a glossy plastic coating on them. Just wondering how different inks would behave on the Scrapbook.com ones. Take care, & have an awesome day! :)
Thanks so much for sharing all this. It's funny which of my supplies can go "bad" I had embossing powder go bad after years and I just hadn't thought it would
I do enjoy using rub-on transfers, and have used them for many years. Unfortunately, some of my craft products, including some rub-ons, got lost in my move. 😪 I hope to replenish my stash soon.
I have always objected to the (very) visible edges on a rub-on, and the (very) glossy appearance. I understand they are better in both regards, so I will definitely order some and sse! TFS.
I've used 49 & Market & they are not glossy & disappear into the paper & are truly beautiful. You can stack them on top of each other as well. I'm in Australia & and it's expensive to buy from SBC while the Aussie dollar is so hopeless. Those ones look great. Need to try stamping on them (49 & M)again as it didn't work the other day with versafine clair. Embossing seems a great idea.
Nice cards, Mary - thanks for the tips. I tried another well-known brand of rub-ons and they seem to be sticky, or slightly tacky. Any tips to correct this? I already tried dusting on some baby powder but didn't help much.
They were so old (the backgrounds) so they were super dry; but great point. I will have to keep note of that for next time to see if a newer background would give me trouble

I totally agree! Great uses for them!
Never used rub-ones before…these look great! 😊
Thanks so much; I was shocked at how great they were
Great Video Mary, We need to start using more techniques we may have forgotten about or were afraid to use. Thank So Much!
You are so welcome! And I agree completely!
Something to buffer underneath while transferring is a great help. I’ve been using glass mat and it’s frustrating. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! YAY! I thought it was so much better.

This sounds like a great tip; I can't picture exactly how to do it though. Have you ever seen this done on a video before? Thank you so much!

I have some rub-ons I used and some I haven’t!!
Your cards are beautiful!!
Thank you so much! I was so happy to pull out those backgrounds and put them to great use !
I've used rub-ons a little. Your tips are really spot on. Your cards are beautiful.

Beautiful cards Mary 🥰 I love your backgrounds, the rub-ons and your card designs ❤️ thanks for sharing your creativity Hugs xx
Thanks so much Joan! Hugs
I love the thought of rub-ones. They just seem like they are very pricey for what you get.
Someone just shared that Dollar Tree has rub-ons; that might be a great place to start and try them out
I love rub ons! Got some from Hero Arts too
Oh YAY have to check out theirs as well
Thanks Mary I didn't know you could stamp on them ❤
Me neither! HA! I am glad I embossed the sentiment because I really did think it wouldn't have dried as well but I'm going to try that later
Great tips thanks
Thank you so much!

Another awesome video!! Mary!!! Hope you are doing well!!
Hi Michele! Thank you so much; so happy you're here. Also you were the first to watch this video. lol YAY!
you can run rub-ons thru your die cutting machine instead of rubbing with craft stick or other tool
YES! I MUST try this; thank you so so much
Dollar Tree has some cute rub ons if you want to play without spending a bunch of money out the door
Fantastic tip thank you so so much!
I do enjoy using rub-on transfers, and have used them for many years. Unfortunately, some of my craft products, including some rub-ons, got lost in my move. 😪 I hope to replenish my stash soon.
Oh no! I know that frustration all too well. Moved about 9 times in my adult life. lol I hope you replenish soon too!
I love rubons. but I don't "rub" i run thru my die cutting machine. Love making collages with rubons.
I HAVE to try this! YES thank you

So spot on...I think that's why I didn't really take to them too much but with the more matte finishes, they look incredible!
YES Stacking them, so great! I love that about these newer ones
Nice cards, Mary - thanks for the tips. I tried another well-known brand of rub-ons and they seem to be sticky, or slightly tacky. Any tips to correct this? I already tried dusting on some baby powder but didn't help much.
Try maybe rubbing some powder over them (like from your anti static powder bag you use for heat embossing). That might work to get rid of that.
@@marypolancodesigns Thanks, I'll try that, Mary. Never thought of the powder bag!
❤
Hi Mary can you tell me who made the Congrats Stamp Set you used?
But of course. Here you go
Graduation/Congrats Sentiment Set: shrsl.com/4lpy6
@@marypolancodesigns thank you
You didn't have any trouble with it sticking to inked backgrounds? Just make sure it's dry, I guess?
They were so old (the backgrounds) so they were super dry; but great point. I will have to keep note of that for next time to see if a newer background would give me trouble
