"we didn't pay to go to school, we just paid to make these mistakes to learn run the business" is probably the best advice any young person could hear right now. Well done.

I'm quite impressed with your work I'll let you quite often and I wish I had the means to do video shows mentor and talk about three different people through the years other night I went through a basic for your apprenticeship to high school and all day Saturdays and then work for the family business for another five years and then ventured out into trade shop and then move down south to sunny Florida. Work with some high-end stuff, customers businesses excetera. But my true beginning started by breaking a crystal that my godfather gave my mother and I took it up to this new George store after my parents divorced and made dope the shopping center and there was a jewelry store and it took forever I had to get it out of Green Bay and this is Northern Wisconsin well I would stop in there just about every other day checking on that Potts Crystal and I got to know the guy by name and all that and I do anyway it's still took forever to get that Crystal.. then through the next couple months I'd be working late after hours after 9 and have the back door open and I dried up on my bike asking about the crystal? And he invited me and I sat on a stool and watch them what he was doing and ask them really good questions.. and my father taught me a lot when I was real young and when I was in junior high in early High School I was in the metals Woods sheet metal drafting excetera excetera always artistic. And then one day in late October I came in and once again asked about the Clock Crystal. And I asked Marty of Dave was in and he said he's in the back, hang on I'll get them for you. I know you came out with a cast on his wrist in his own firm.! We had an unusual early storm in late October, and he was taking a Sportster into the garage and slide out and nailed his wrist in his arm and broke them both. Had that pointy asked me if I wanted a job! And that's where the Story begins.

I don’t believe in school, i left school early to go do tons of trait work, gathering knowledge from great people and now im a plumber and I make a decent salary and im looking into starting my jewelry venture. The only thing that scares me is needing to buy the gold , diamonds $$$$

The part about having to downsize and move operations into a garage was a crucial inclusion. I can’t imagine anyone truly successful didn’t “fail” and stumble along the way. You’ve got a great head on your shoulders. Thanks for sharing your story in earnest man.

This is a prime example of someone knowing what they wanna do and very young age and how so blessed they are knowing this! You have been blessed with the gift and that’s what makes you a great jeweler! Yes you studied hard and you learned your craft but you have a natural talent and that’s what’s so wonderful about your gift! At 65 years old I have seen many of people like you that have a gift and they have made a great living in all types of service. However I think it’s a gift plus hard work both combined. Congratulations to you and your beautiful gift!

I love making things. I used to spend all my evening after school picking up scrap metal in the DT workshop and making them into keychains and rings.
I kinda realised as I got older that if I had the resources.. I could make whatever I wanted really.. i’ve ended up making my double bed, desk, wardrobe and a couple of rings (non out of precious metals, I dont trust myself yet).
Would love to make jewellery one day because being at Uni is a ball ache.

Start with silver, and get yourself a teacher. Silver's not too expensive, and if you really can't afford it, copper is a decent alternative, but you're still gonna want to use silver solder. If you can't afford courses (not per se full-time, even just one evening a week works too), watch a lot of youtube and other stuff. Consume as much stuff as you can, there's so much online. Once you get better, get more specific. Learn what you like, learn what you're good at, and just keep improving. And last but perhaps the best tip: If you feel like you're getting good at something or made a really great piece, take it to a jeweler (not just a shop, but one with a workshop in house) and ask them to criticize your piece. It's not nice for your ego but it's good for your learning.

Since I have only watched a few of your videos, I instantly knew that I liked your creativity, BUT I also knew you couldn't just be a natural jeweler, so this was very informative as to the blending of the technical aspect in which you confirmed what I believed that it takes an enormous amount of time to learn the process and of course the vision/creativity of making the jewelry. I do think I'm most fascinated with motion and transformation that you give jewelry. I know it would be such a pleasure to own one of your pieces, but I'm just not that wealthy, so I'll just have to admire your work from afar.
    Thank you.

Love your work, your videos, and your story Bobby. I just finished my first year of my apprenticeship and I can say you are EXACTLY right about hardly knowing anything after your first year. You definitely know a lot more than you did when you began, but in terms of knowing anything beyond the basics of jewelry making and repair, you are just now starting to scratch the surface.
I just got hired by a well-known and respected company in Birmingham/AL and I'm working under jewelers that have 16 years, 24 years, and 35 years of experience. And they still learn new things every day. It can be overwhelming once you realize how much there is to learn, but it's incredible how rewarding mastering new skills can be.
Bobby, your work is some of the best I've seen in the world, and I have to thank you for being such an inspiration to me. Your work inspires me and challenges me and we've never even met. I'm hoping one day that will change.
