    #DidYouKnow: The Moon's gravity is much less than the Earth's gravity - approximately one-sixth. So, a 100 kg astronaut weighs 980N on Earth. On the Moon, the astronaut would weigh only 162.2N. However, the astronaut's mass is 100kg where-ever they are.

    • @RBRT02
      @RBRT02 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @mehrdadkhonsari1860 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ali tornado i think you just weigh yourself here on earth, don't see how else. Maybe with some high tech science stuff you can measure the amount of matter, but I don't think it really *matters* anyway

    • @carultch
      @carultch 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. You can determine your mass without depending on gravity, by using a spring. The spring applies a known force as a function of the strain from its neutral unloaded position. A mass on a spring will vibrate in simple harmonic motion, where the period depends on the spring stiffness k, and the total effective mass of the load M. You also have to account for the effective mass of the unloaded machine, that we'll call m0, and the total mass is M=m+m0. The period becomes T=2*pi*sqrt((m+m0)/k). You measure the period when it is unloaded to determine m0, and then you measure the period with the sample mass added to the system, and solve for m. Effectively, it measures inertia instead of gravitational mass. This is how astronauts measure their mass in space.
      Because we live in a gravitational field, it is much more convenient for us to take advantage of it, by using weight as a proxy for mass. You can either measure the support force in a scale and then divide by the known g-value of Earth to get m. Alternatively, you use a balance with a known reference mass, and compare weight-to-weight.

    What would be the result if Physics is simple to understand ? Everybody would have learn it easily. And not only Physics, English too.

    • @carultch
      @carultch 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Physics can be easy to understand, since the rules are ultimately objective. We may discover more information about the rules as new physics is researched, but the intent is to simplify it to as few fundamental rules as possible, so that any situation can be understood from the fundamental rules. Many concepts you learn in physics are shortcuts, that can be proven mathematically from more fundamental rules. Such as using the trade of potential and kinetic energy as a shortcut to solve mechanics problems, instead of solving them from first principles like N's 2nd law and kinematics fundamentals.
      English however, is subject to centuries of evolving social conventions that created a mess of inconsistent rules, and it is impossible to teach someone to always be able to pronounce any word given its spelling, or use that word in a sentence, without a hell of a lot of unnecessary memorization. There are always exceptions to every rule in English.

      You can weigh yourself submerged in water to get your body density (out of your buoyancy) and your volume (by water displacement). Volume x Density = Mass

      Use a balance instead of a scale. It will measure mass instead of weight, because both the reference masses and the body being measured contain g on both sides of the equation. Take a balance to the moon, and it will still measure the same mass.
      If you need to measure mass without using a gravitational field of any kind, you can measure the inertia as it responds to a known force. A practical way to do this, is to vibrate it on a spring of known stiffness (k) and measure the period of vibration (T). Using T=2*pi*sqrt(m/k), and solving for m, you can determine the mass. And that is how it is done on the International Space Station.

      DaV You’ve enough intelligence to acknowledge that you lack knowledge about something... 😂I had to learn this ca. 3 years ago, but didn’t, because I wasn’t motivated and if someone forces me to do something, I will not do it, because I hate authority and I was too shortsighted...

    • @carllinder-lood4686
      @carllinder-lood4686 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From a physics standpoint, mass is kg and weight is N, since it is a force. In everyday life, it doesn't really matter if you say you weigh 45 kg.

    • @Santyyyy
      @Santyyyy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      according to physics, your weight is 441N. I t is because weight = mass x gravity which is 45 x 9.8m/s. so your weight is 441N.
