This shouldn't have been America. A nation built on the standard that all men are equal. Communist doctrine states that all men and women, black, white Asian, are equal. Neither broadly tolerate gay or transgender, Jew or Muslim, free speech and journalism, women's empowerment or peaceful demonstration. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

In my case it's "This isn't how I was raised." because I wasn't raised to be like that. I was raised to value the stated values of this country, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (as long as happiness isn't going on a rampage and killing people or burning shit.)

Thank you. As an korean-american man who has lived in the US for 50 years and am a US citizen, I can't remember how many times I felt unwelcome in my own country.
I can't recall how many times I was told, "Go back to where you come from!" While this has become less frequent over the years, it still does happen still, the last time was a couple of weeks ago. It was always present in society but just became worse with Trump.

Even if that were true (I am not convinced), the over sexualization of South East Asian women is what made them targets of his war against his "addiction". Even if his motive wasn't directly racist, this is not a race neutral situation.

@Woodland Gangsta As an old white Southern woman, I've seen examples of white privilege in how I'm treated by cops. My tags expired 3 months ago, because I forgot! I have them now, but I wasn't pulled over.
Several months ago, I took my car to my mechanic for repairs, and he looked surprised at the items in my back seat. "Aren't you afraid of what a cop will think when they pull you over?"
Huh? I haven't been pulled over in decades, but what???
I live way out in the boonies, down in a canyon that drops 1000 feet during the 3 mile very rough dirt road to my house. It's sometimes impassable when it rains, so I carry emergency supplies like; shovels, sandbags, tow chain, tarp, duct tape, rope, and a big machete. Tools I may need if I get stuck.
He said, "Damn woman! This looks like a serial killer's tool kit!"
Never even occurred to me. Can you imagine if a young black man got pulled over and had all that stuff in his car? He would be shot!

    • @RojaJaneman
      @RojaJaneman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +36

@Woodland Gangsta This 👆 exactly!!! Make sure to say that loud, proud, and often!
As an Indo-American, I assure u other indo-Americans aren’t appreciative nor aware of the weight of all the help they got from their black brethren. The rights they enjoy today because of them. I have tried here and there, but always shut down because they’re ’too busy’ or simply didn’t care.
I make sure my kid learns everything he can about history though. And black/women contribution being part of it. He can’t be a good human/citizen without understanding it all.

Wow. Before I address my concern with the gentleman who provided this video, I have to address this related observation by Matt U first.
Sir, your statement knocked me over and woke me up to the reality of how easily one person (myself) can overlook and unintentionally ignore significant pieces of US history. I assume everything stated in this short video is highly accurate and, in light of that, your comment - & I paraphrase - " learning more in 13 minutes versus K through 12th grade" hit the center of the bull's eye - not even a light stretch of the imagination! Thank you for highlighting what should be
(again speaking for myself) so significant and painfully obvious. I try my best to always keep an open mind and some enthusiasm to keep learning , but now I'm very curious how many short and correct videos I, and maybe the majority of folks, may have overlooked and remain to be discovered..?

Every job I get I have to do an STD check because they think us foreigners have STDs. right now all foreigners have to get a covid test. But Koreans and Korean foreigners are exempt from it. I have had 2 tests so far and my Korean wife has had none. If I don't get tested I can be heavily fined. Even walking down the street I have Korean me spitting on the street right at my feet as I walk by.

When I was a young girl, My parents took care of our neighbors house. They were taken to a camp because they were japanese. Their family had been in our small town since the late 1800's. I didn't understand why they took my friend away. I'm really old now, and I still don't understand. My parents made sure their home and livestock were kept safe for them. I got sent home from school because I asked the teacher how this was different from what the Germans were doing. What I got taught was that I was to stay silent. I wasn't to question or speak aloud my anger at what happened to my friend. When they came home, they would talk to us, but wouldn't meet anyone else's eyes. I remember my dad getting into an argument with another man at church over this. For people who don't understand "asian" racism wake the hell up. We put them in camps JUST LIKE GERMANY DID. We may not like to admit that, but it's time that we, all of us, stand up to open hatred that one particular political party in this country has spread for years. Nothing that's happening now is new. Asian-Americans have never had a real rights movement in the US, and so we've always been considered fair game. The best we can hope for is to be ignored, to not be considered worthy of time because we're such a small part of the population still. It's not new with Trump, it's not new with Covid, those are the just the latest flavor. I've heard people say that the anti-Asian sentiment in the US is the result of conflict with China, but that's just their latest favorite reason. There will always be a reason.

If they are offended by it, why try to reason as to why they use it? Just don't use it. My best friend is a a gay male. He and his Friends use the "f" word all the time but find it offensive when others use it. It is because others are using it to offend! I don't ask why I cant say the word. I simply don't use it.
I believe the government has a history of trying to get minorities to be divisive with each other when in all honesty, a real racist hates all them! My EX-friend continuously called covid the kungflu and said she would not go to any Asian establishment now. She talked about blacks just as bad. That's why we are no longer friends. We did not argue. We just grew distant. Those kind of people will hate every minority equally. Don't be fooled into thinking different. Here is a small fact that many people are not aware about the internment camps.
During WW2, the US would have an agreement with other allied countries (mostly in Latin America) with significant Japanese immigrant populations, and they would reward them for sending their Japanese immigrants to US interment camps. Many people of Brazilian-Japanese and Peruvian-Japanese families were separated and split up into different countries with no explanation why they were being sent to camps in the US.

@@Mythraen Malcolm explains the difference between separation and segregation.
"The black man that you're not familiar with is the one that we would like to point out now. He is a new type. He is the type that seldom the white man ever comes into contact with. And when you do come into contact with him you're shocked because you didn't know that this type of black man existed. And immediately you think, "Well here's one of those black supremacists or racists or extremists who believe in violence and all that other kind of..." Well, that's what they call it.
This new type of black man, he doesn't want integration; he wants separation. Not segregation, separation. To him, segregation, as we're taught by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, means that which is forced upon inferiors by superiors. A segregated community is a Negro community. But the white community, though it's all white, is never called a segregated community. It's a separate community. In the white community, the white man controls the economy, his own economy, his own politics, his own everything. That's his community. But at the same time while the Negro lives in a separate community, it's a segregated community. Which means it's regulated from the outside by outsiders. The white man has all of the businesses in the Negro community. He runs the politics of the Negro community. He controls all the civic organizations in the Negro community. This is a segregated community.
We don't go for segregation. We go for separation. Separation is when you have your own. You control your own economy; you control your own politics; you control your own society; you control your own everything. You have yours and you control yours; we have ours and we control ours.
They don't call Chinatown in New York City or on the West Coast a segregated community, yet it's all Chinese. But the Chinese control it. Chinese voluntarily live there, they control it. They run it. They have their own schools. They control their own politics, control their own industry. And they don't feel like they're being made inferior because they have to live to themselves. They choose to live to themselves. They live there voluntarily. And they are doing for themselves in their community the same thing you do for yourself in your community. This makes them equal because they have what you have. But if they didn't have what you have, then they'd be controlled from your side; even though they would be on their side, they'd be controlled from your side by you.
So when we who follow the Honorable Elijah Muhammad say that we're for separation, it should be emphasized we're not for segregation; we're for separation. We want the same for ourselves as you have for yourselves. And when we get it, then it's possible to think more intelligently and to think in terms that are along peaceful lines. But a man who doesn't have what is his, he can never think always in terms that are along peaceful lines." - Malcolm X (The Race Problem.; African Students Association and NAACP Campus Chapter. Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan. 23 January 1963)
Malcolm understood the difference between dignity and integration. Our desire should be to ensure the dignity of every human being. The source of dignity is self-reliance. We cannot have true self-reliance and dignity unless we have control and responsibility over the means of our support. Achieving dignity for every citizen is not just an individual effort. To reach our full potential, we must work with others in our community.

@@DrSanity7777777 this was a really good speech highlighting the possible solution to an age old problem.. however, separation would have never succeeded,
the rich (primarily white) classes would ultimately undermine any separation/independence of any non-white ethnicity merely by capitalist influence and destruction of economic choice..
This is most obvious with years of gentrification following the revelation of the practice of red-lining, the game was always rigged
In similar vein, the Chinatown of yesterday is almost gone, the residents lured away for economic reasons, and replaced by high-end real estate (gentrification again)... The option for separation was always doomed

So, we grow up unwittingly idolizing "white culture" and wanting to be more white and not stand out and maybe fit in somewhere. This is why I loved history in school. I wasn’t the kid who accepted the text book version. I delved into books in the public library as well. I listened to my grandparents tell the stories of our family. Being of a very strangely convoluted mixture of Jewish, Cherokee, Portuguese and Austrian, I’ve heard the stories of the Trail of Tears and children being ripped from parents and placed in “Indian” orphanages, of escaping the Nazi’s only to have the rest of our family executed in camps, and coming to America (thanks to a few members of family already here) and being treated like trash, and of coming to America from Portugal and being treated like trash in Connecticut because my grandfather’s skin was so dark.
America has no loss in its bigotry and racism. We have always treated new comers as “others” and less than.
I’ve always had white privilege due to recessive genes giving me light skin, blonde hair and green eyes. But I use that privilege to stand for others. I’m using my voice and my physical presence to speak up and stand with those being targeted. I can’t help it, it’s something I’ve always done even as a kid.
I live in LA near Koreatown. I won’t allow people being disrespectful to Asian Americans, to Black people, other women or the elderly. I may one day get harmed myself for doing so, but I rather be the person who did something to stop hate, than the one who looked away and did nothing.

However, living in rural Middle America where there are some racist white ppl who already look down on me and my existence- it doesn't matter what I say to them because they already DGAF about me. But, when I have my white friends who speak aloud and support me when injustice does occur helps create a united effort because that racist person is forced to listen. Ppl who stay quiet and permit evil to exist will allow racism to never end simple as that.

That was the most Asian American history I have ever heard in one chunk. It is horrible how the minority groups have been treated in the United States. Knowledge/Education is the first step in changing the future. Thanks for sharing.
