FDNY Fort Pitt goes on a full house run

  • We are at quarters of FDNY Engine 15, Tower Ladder 18, and Battalion 4, better known as Fort Pitt, at the corner of Pitt Street and Delancey Street, where we see the entire house go on a run 2nd due for an odor of gas. I am not sure why the rigs used their lights and sirens for a 2nd due response, but it might have been modified as they turned out. Engine 15 is a 2010 Seagrave Marauder II, Tower Ladder 18 is a 2012 Seagrave with a 75 foot Aerialscope, and Battalion 4 is a 2009 GMC 2500. Enjoy the full house response, replete with siren and horn. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on April 9th, 2015.

    I'd love to drop into this station sometime, my Department up here in Vermont has TL 18's old Mack CF/Baker. Still in service, still going strong. I've got a scrap book that has pictures from when we got it (Practically stripped by the shops) through its refurb and to its current state.

    They used their lights and siren for a second due response because it's a response. Being a firefighter, I'd rather response code 3 to a third or fourth due call even then respond no code and be minutes away when it turns out it's a non-bullshit call when I could be a couple of seconds out when it turns out it's a job.

    Nice catch. Don't think battalion 4 is a 2009. I remember when they got that rig not too long ago. All the cars with the silver grills and the blue lights in the rear are newer than 2009.
    I have a cousin who is the aid for the 4th battalion btw.

  • @skymedic48

    In ny, they pretty much respond code to everything, because of the traffic. Even the EMS guys, take minor stuff in hot, otherwise, it'd take them 3+ hrs to get to some places. Even running code, they barely get anywhere because of the traffic. Having said that. They were 2nd due for odor of gas, I have yet to see any fire companies hop to, for that type of call.

    All these comments about a slow turnout? 1:40 is slow lol? I'm a retired engine/truck Capt. (33 years on the hob) and having worked many busy houses. I always told my crew if I caught anyone in a dead run (day or night) I'd trip them! Good grief a minute and half to turn out is too slow? Coming from old school I gotta say going from a dead sleep to a dead run is kinda hard on your cardio eh? Push yourself from zero to 100 just to gain half a minute or so at most? Getting in such a hurry you are racing the clock can lead to some accidents.

      thefiredude52 I'm an on call firefighter in the UK and I respond on foot I do a quarter of a mile from being asleep quite often and during the day if I'm about the house there's no room to run in a firehouse to that degree of strain that it would have an affect on the heart quite possibly the adrenaline rush when the bells go down or my pager sounds would be worse

      @brotherbrownstone 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They're second due. If they were first due, they'd be out in a minute. Keep in mind in NY firehouses are just a few blocks apart, so the drive to the scene is often just a minute or two. There is really no need to sprint around when you'll arrive on the scene in four minutes anyway.

    I just noticed another rig that was behind 18; is that one a spare or something; cuz if not; then it's not a "full house" call; according to my knowledge; "full house" would mean every single unit in that station goes; not even 1 vehicles is left behind inside the station

    • @FL92002
      @FL92002  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rig behind Ladder 18 is a spare that is used for special events such as parade patrol, the San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy, if the President is in town, etc....Otherwise, it is not a frontline piece.

    • @geoffg8840
      @geoffg8840 ปีที่แล้ว

      Where i live, we have full house assignments but some of the units are cross-staffed. Mostly an engine and BLS med unit cross-staffed with a crew of 3 at some of the stations. That could be why sometimes rigs are left behind. Depends on what rig is dispatched at that station on the response.

    The reason why a second due company will respond in emergency mode is because the incident is still considered an emergency until pronounced otherwise by the commander in charge. 2nd Due companies can and sometimes will reach an emergency scene before the first due company because of many different reasons.
