Someone told me There is a bit of symbolism about Dr Maruki being a taxi driver. He's going to let others choose their own paths in life, instead of forcing them down a road he wants them to go. It relates to him being a taxi driver because the taxi driver isn't the one who chooses the destination, it's the passenger.
I actually didn't think much of him being a taxi driver but that's actually a good interpretation. But whether it's a coincidence or not, only the writers will know unless they explicitly stated it.
@@jpoy21 same here until someone told me that. If it was intentional or not then that's actually a good way to wrap up the ending of royal alongside with maruki's character
Not only that, but he’s helping them get to that destination of their choosing, kind of like the literal manifestation of what his position as a councilor is meant for in the first place. I really love where he ended up for real.
@@camerongranger6301 for real. By the way i don't know why I'm thinking of this but since he is a taxi driver he can still give advice to people while basically letting the person find his path (i guess the writers could've gotten the idea of Maruki being a taxi driver from how the media portrays taxi drivers as people who are wise and willing to lend an ear to someone and give them advice. I guess this could also fall into the idea that the writers writing him as a taxi driver in the end because of how the media portrays them if so it fits really well with him being a counselor and now a taxi driver
One thing i love about p3's ending is how the protagonist death is hinted in the final battle, the description of the great seal ability says it will use your life energy and the cost of the skill is always your max hp at the time
Doorkun's death is hinted before you even push start."Momento Mori" (Remember you must die) are the first words on the screen when the title song starts
The ending of Persona 3 hit me like a truck. Aigis’ bittersweet monologue changed my entire perspective on life, and as the credits rolled, I just sat in my chair in awe. Not to mention the music in the last ten minutes is doing it’s damn best to make you sob your heart out. What a phenomenal way to end a phenomenal game.
Agreed, I'm also going to give credit to Portable as well because while it does miss the animated cutscene the NG+ ending results in your loved one running up to the roof first and... if you've not seen Yukari's dialogue in that scene it hits like a train.
@@88walka Nope, because FES despite having the answer is also missing not only significant content but gameplay updates that objectively make it an unpolished product. The lack of the ability to turn the command system off, the frequent loading screens and transitions that utterly derail the games pacing as well as the sluggish camera that offers a poor POV both in and out of Tartarus. At this point the only way Persona 3 FES becomes a definitive version is with a wholesale remake with the updated tweaks from Portable (at least) as well as it's main protagonist. I won't be touching Portable, because I already own the game and the same is true of FES. Not to say Portable doesn't need improvements too the 3D Overworld, the Cutscenes, the Answer... they have to return especially considering the Answer is the one Arena followed up on.
At the end of P3, the cost to use Great Seal is 100% of the protagonist's HP; and there's no 2nd option when it becomes available. That alone should've confirmed; the protagonist _absolutely_ used 100% of his very life force to pull that off. The Answer only reconfirms what the game mechanics already conveyed in that last moment of the final boss.
If it was 100% of his/her life force though his friends wouldn't be stressing about the burden upon his soul. Seems to imply while his physical body was the cost to forge the great seal, his/her soul is currently in extreme agony especially since Erebus keeps returning to make the most inappropriate knock, knock joke.
@@skunthundler Or sequels, Arena Ultimax is the worst game in the franchise because of that. Completely undermines Persona 3F, 3P, 4 & somehow 5 as well.
The thing that makes the ending of P5R work for me is that not only the Phantom Thieves defeat Maruki, they prove him wrong by deciding to mend their emotional wounds and fix the long lasting consequences of their trauma: Ryuji goes to physical therapy, Futaba goes back to school, Ann goes abroad to further her career, etc. They reject Maruki completely by not only accepting what happened to them, but also working towards getting better on their own pace
@@JetstreamTheSexSam It's explicitly said that they returned to the world of *most* of Persona 5, without the Royal content. Akechi is dead- which is the conclusion to his story. He knew he did things that are wrong, and his method of atonement is fighting to the end, fighting for his own demise, fighting for what he believes. That's the conclusion of his story- knowingly sacrificing himself to save the world.
Honestly, Persona 3 ending was really a relieved ending and the sad one at the same time. They just straight up die in the end and if you really give it attention, every time he's going home, there's a dialogue with just something like "your eyes felt heavy" or something along those lines, suggesting that he's almost at his end.
Fun fact about Namatame going into politics: it's mentioned in a TV report in P5. (In December) Golden's epilogue actually has a few modifications based on whose Social Links you completed and in some cases who you romanced. There's an option to re-watch it from the main menu and choose a different file for it, as an easy way to see the variations, which I wish more games did. The most notable and infamous one is what happens if you romance Marie: she gives you a love confession on live TV and Rise gets mad. For the LONGEST time, P4 fans assumed this was ALWAYS part of Golden's epilogue, and accused Marie's romance of being "forced on the player". No. This confession only happens if you romanced Marie. Just wanted to spread the word on this, again, as it's still not commonly known.
@@ArshadZahid_nohandleideas What likely happened was everyone experienced the Golden Epilogue via TH-cam videos, and 99.9% of P4 footage on TH-cam comes from the harem route.
Yeah. I got that alternate scene when I went for Marie on my second playthrough. Though I wish she was more integrated in Golden's storyline instead of just being there at times just like how Atlus did with Kasumi Yoshizawa.
The part in Royals ending where you fistfight Maruki hit me so hard. It felt so real and raw compared to the rest of a game, as you finally face off as equals. It was a perfect way to end off that masterpiece of a palace.
The persona 3 ending and persona 2 (i'm couting both games as one) hurt me extremely P5R made me cry because of how i was connected to the charcters, can't wait to see this video
@@Gael-x999 ...i played the games out of order due to me not being able to access an emulator for ps2 at the time so i just played P5R on my PS4, P3 P3P, and i finished P4G not long ago in my best friend's laptop, and to be honest P4 would hit if everything from the game wasn't spoiled for me like P2, P3 n P5R weren't. P4 Is a good game i guess but 1. The tone of the game doesnt really resonate with me 2. The gameplay while an improvement from 3 i still felt like i was playing esecially the same game with different Story amd charcters. However, 3. I Love everyone in the P4 cast, so i boight P4AU to spend more time with them and even played the PQ Games, so no, unlike you tried to imply i don't share that take🥱
@@jbear3478 it might be people that had worked with Shido against the Phantom Thieves, or the police trying to get onto Joker because he was not supposed to be released yet.
P5R's ending oddly only hits hard if you've seen P5's original ending first. Otherwise, it feels...weirder. Very melancholy for no reason. It's only once you notice the contrast between the ending's build-ups do you realize why this mood-shift occurs. P5 ends in a total triumph; it is like a dream, as the characters note. A story book ending on all accounts. Toast to us and all that crap. The world can f*cking burn as long as we have each other. An empowering message...but not very deep, all things considered. P5R is not a victory, but a reluctant assertation that reality is something you cannot escape forever. You won, but at a cost of your ignorance, your chance at happiness in exchange for your individuality, your agency as a person to view and tackle the world's obstacles. That is why you do not have your friends to accompany you home: the journey was not about them surrounding you like emotional crutches, but about yourself becoming a better person through your experiences with them. You do not live your life collectively, only for yourself.
P5 Vanilla has by far a better final cutscene, The main message of the game was about changing your life for the better while being your true self and that's exactly the last cutscene. Everyone is feeling like themselves, Joker finally feels like he is free and even tho he is still being targeted by the police he has his friends by his side to help him. Yeah It's a happy ending and almost feels too good to be real but that's fine (Also "With the Stars and Us" is by far a better song than "Our Light")
Honestly at this point,Persona 5 Royal feels like of an expansion or definitive version and more of a different take on the base game. At least with Fes and Persona 4 Golden they added some new events and the extra content were sorta epilogues.
Something I want to see in Persona 6 (if that happens) where the final dungeon is owned by the Protagonist, and all the normal enemies are based off all the Personas you recruited and the mid-bosses are based on your allies and other confidants you made over the progress of the game, Also you lose yourself as a playable member if the team, so only your are allies playable; this kinda results on them taking complete reflection of their growth, since the strength of the mid bosses are dependent on your confidant rank with them
My personal musings on how P6 could go about integrating everything developed over the more modern games while incorporating more elements of the earlier games is to find a way to make the main protagonist still special, but without going the Wildcard route again. The way I've thought of that it could be done is something that would also eliminate one of the bigger recurring trope pet peeves I've had with the game: make the main character fill the navigator role. The whole deal with making due with a non-navigator party member doing the job then getting replaced with someone with a Persona suited to job midway through the game has become overly predictable and kinda kneecaps that role being as important as the story tries to make it seem like it is with how much was accomplished without it. (Probably have the protag be of the Temperance Arcana.) My thinking is that the main character could remain a mostly silent protagonist, but their voice actor would still have a major speaking role as the Persona instead. Other Party members would have multiple swappable Persona (outside of battle, acting kind of like different build options), but limited strictly a single Arcana for each character, while the protag would have their one that can't be swapped that gradually gets new usable navigation powers with story progression. The whole party would have Velvet Room access again. Not only would the protag have Social Links, but so would the Party members have their own (probably a 50%/50% split between all the party members' own and the protag's). To facilitate this, the protag's Persona would have astral projection powers that would be used to watch the other party members in their Social Links and offer them "advice" as the mechanical excuse for having dialogue options to choose from (astral projection would also be used for dungeon puzzles and such). The game over condition would be the reverse of previous games, where the other three party members need to fall, while the protag can still be standing and still be a gameover. The protag's Persona has no fighting capability, so they're given a "demon summonning charm" or some sort that is more limited than the Wildcard in various ways. Arcana of summonable protag Demon/Persona are only unlocked as usable by starting the matching Social Link, and they're meant to be more on the dispossible side, each you bring with you becoming unavailable for the rest of that given dungeon exploration if they drop to 0 HP, while the party members are generally bulkier and more reliable. Maybe even do the full reverse of P3 and have the protag's be AI controled while you have control over what the other party members do? Also, keep the calendar progression, but with an/a University/Collage setting and conflicting class schedules between the party members determining when everyone can get together and making which time slots you have open each day more dynamic. Each story dungeon may have a different time of the day it's explorable in as well. I could probably say more, but I think I've rambled enough.
Kinda late here, but in the P3 ending if you consider that Aigis can see vital signs then she could see Yuki slipping away. When she say him after he cast great seal this would explain why she began crying and looked more sad than happy.
I like the narrative that he did actually die when he used the seal physically, but his will alone was so strong that he kept his conscience and "lived" til graduation. I dunk a lot on power of friendship, but for the sake of keeping that promise, that goes hard
@@w1nther930tbh, that's pretty much what Metis said in the answer. He gave his life force to make the great seal, and also mentioned the promise, so I do think that's what happened
Getting the best ending in persona 4 is somehow foreshadowed by the fact that every single one of your social links mentions how odd and strange it is that everything started when you arrived, you can initially Point it to the fact that you are the protagonist and it's just a silly meta commentary, but when dojima mentions it he seems genuenly concerned by the fact that your arrival also meant the beggining of all the incidents
Persona 3's good ending is The Answer's ending. The characters realize things can't be changed and accept reality. Moving on, living on, to the best of their abilities.
The P5R ending made me realize that they were going with the reality that most people don't stay friends after high school, and that is a reality they had to face. Damn, I felt that.
Not sure why you are relatively unaffected by P4's ending. Remember that this came on the heels of Persona 3's ending, when the main character died. So the train ending with your teammates keeping pace with the train and shouting their goodbyes was like a very huge rush of warmth that you have earned over two games. However... In the original P4, it was implied that the MC would likely never return to Inaba, thereby making the farewell quite bittersweet. It was thanks to later media like P4 Arena and Golden where they retcon the goodbye, and allowing Yu to visit Inaba often. Seriously, Yu returned in about two months later in Arena, making that goodbye scene rather melodramatic in hindsight
I personally really love it because it also makes P3's ending all the more worth it. Minato fought and died so people like Yu could have their happy endings.
What I liked about the fact that it plays the true ending either you stop Izanami or don’t, is that fact that it kind of piggybacks the idea of bad endings. Your friends are sending their farewells in blissful ignorance, not knowing that the false goddess is still out there, simply recharging to bring the fog back to humanity. Although I do prefer P3’s ending, I cannot deny the importance of P4’s ending (I haven’t got to P5 yet, so I’ll update when I do).
I'm gonna be honest no matter what Persona 3's ending is my favorite because after having dealt with and dealing with Depression and trying to better myself after getting help. Persona 3 just *hits me* in a way I cannot describe, first time I fully understood the genuine message before even seeing the MC die I was in tears as I can in a way somewhat relate with his/her stance on life. Fighting tooth and nail to preserve bettering yourself and other's around you. Knowing that you helped many people better themselves and that in turn betters yourself. Personally after fully understanding P3's ending and its message. I no longer view 4 years of self mental torment as me wanting to die. But not knowing how to cope with the fact I WILL die and I CAN die at ANY moment at ANY time. But now that I have received at least some proper help I am bettering myself and I also came to the same conclusion as Makato/Minako. Fight tooth and nail to preserve what you have fought for so long to achieve. Bettering yourself and friends around you. Even if it seems like there is a impossible way to go about it.
The final Maruki boss fight is so beautiful and then after that ending it with the fist fight. The emotions that were running during the fight were heavy and I will never forget Maruki
Much respect for the game devs who put the work into making a good or bad story ending that the player can reach as a testament to whatever journey they've been. ❤
this was the biggest surprise and im so glad this is going to be my (presumably) last video essay of the year thank you for all the wonderful videos you posted throughout the entirety of the year, i enjoyed all of your content and i hope you see even more success next year!
Persona 3 broke me.... even though I'd known what was going to happen... it made it worse, knowing the protag was saying goodbye to her friends for the last time without them knowing was almost too much.
Having seen all the endings before and watching this video now, every ending now hits differently for me. I’m going through a period of change and each ending resonates even more for me. They’re all reaffirming the changes I’m working towards in my life.
The ending of p5 left me completely empty inside. I am leaving all my friends, moving back to a family who obviously doesnt love me and moving away from my partner? It felt so sad. It didnt feel good :(
Same. It seemed unrealistic for him to go back home at that point. And how everyone is moving. It's bitter sweet. I hope they all come back together some day
@@Talessaga2 at the start of the game sojiro says something like that "the minute you bring them trouble, they throw you out". so yeah, akechi and mc are kinda similiar. they're both not doing well with their parents.
I just really like how hard it hit in p5r when akechi was gone for good in the ending, but then he was teased to be alive. akechi's character is just so good in this game and it ends in the best way.
Which is no better than preventing Shinjiro from dying in P3P's FEMC Route (in fact I'd say it's arguably worse). Letting Akechi dead (at least until the next P5 spin-off) would have been a better closure to the character itself, as he stated that he'd rather die in freedom than living in Maruki's world.
I wasn't saying that akechi should've stayed alive, although it might've sounded that way. he either dies or suffers a fate worse than death. and whether he stays alive or not is technically up to the player, since seeing him still walking is followed up by joker seeing himself in phantom thief uniform through the glass reflection.
@@GaeaRage0798 Granted, it's vague enough that you really never know if Joker's promise to Akechi will truly be fulfilled, but either way, Akechi, alive or not, is out of the story, he no longer would be considering himself a direct part of it
@@jbear3478 we don’t know if he’s dead. seems a little silly to claim he’s for sure 100% dead when a) there’s a very obvious teaser of him being alive in the game and b) there’s cut content of him being alive post-game. i’m not saying he’s definitely alive, i’m saying calling it one way or the other misses the intentional ambiguity.
Dude... Persona will always hold a special place in my heart. Started with 4. I'm bias since it was my first one I loved it and golden. Then I went backwards to 3, 2, and 1 to permanently love the series. I was super stoked when persona 5 came out and automatically fell in love. I took a vacation to play and beat royal to 100% completion (on trophies). After going through a rough few years with a family death and 2020 I've been in a state of barely any interest. Watching these vids you reminded me of why I loved this series in the first place. All I can say really is thank you...
Persona 4s ending makes me cry. Never more is beautiful, no disrespect to 3 but 4 has such a personal connection to me. Also I love that the gas station attendant was behind it all. Revisiting is awesome.
I like 5 and 4 much better simply because its implicit that they keep in touch and their stories are inconcluse. 3 on the other hand felt bad to me because, I'm perfectly fine with the inevitability of death and living your life to its fullest, but i didnt like the fact that a 16 year old had to eat sh1t and have his life cut extremely, monumentally short. The fact that the MC has to be snuffed out like that makes it feel like utter defeat and the game pretty much leaves without even a glimpse of hope. Something about a young kid kicking the bucket before he even gets the chance to experience life, risking his life for a future he'll never get to see just rubs be the wrong way, so thats why Im happy that persona took the happy, feel good approach with the newer games, keep the grityness and realness in SMT.

Hopefully this video will have an even better ending result than the Bad Endings video, since that one did really well Keep up the good work, loving your content so far!
Damn, not often I cry watching youtube but how you talked about P3's answer ending kind of got to me. I suffered badly from depression for a while and never wanted to do things and never had a reason to keep looking forward. I just went on everyday till finally...I found what got me to see everyday as a new and amazing day. I almost didnt, I was extremely close to falling into darkness but that darkness let me see the world as something filled with so many things I wanted to see I started finding everyday amazing. It actively changed my life to the point Ive been told im too happy all the time and too energetic, nowadays I simply respond with "i spent too much time when I was younger sad". I just want to live to see new things and it makes me so happy to love life So yeah find what motivates you to live and be happy, there will always be something to there for you. If you lost someone you care for hold onto hem and dont forget them but dont let them hold you back.
honestly in regards to the Persona 4 ending, i think it hits hardest in the anime. they decided to take P3's The Answer's idea and have one day on repeat, with only Narukami realizing something's off. when they talk about the midnight channel and the TV world, Narukami finally pieces it together just as the day repeated itself. Izanami makes him watch as he loses all his friends and offers him a more pleasant life inside the fog, to which a broken Narukami accepts, living day after day in a dream. (the anime touched on this prior, but Narukami's fear is losing touch with everyone and ending up alone. *which is honestly pretty damn empathetic if you ask me.* )Margret ends up bringing him to his senses and attacking him, and his social links end up helping him fight against her as personas. during the fight, his own shadow appears and states that he didn't want to be alone, that he didn't want his friends to leave him. and him accepting his shadow is what gives him the second wind to fight Izanami again and win. i honestly like it a lot more in the anime because it feels so fitting of the actual story in the game. i personally wasn't really fond of the idea of not giving the protagonist that 1 on 1 with his own shadow when everyone in the Investigation Team underwent their own. the anime going down that route added something new that kept in line with the story and characters, while also not deviating from the original story in the game.
I only finished persona 4 Golden and almost finished vanilla Persona 5 because It was like 4AM irl when I had to say goodbye to everyone, I didn't know (spoiler for persona 4) that for the true ending you have to go to Junes while saying goodbye, I'm glad I constantly updated my save as I was playing.
I played the persona 3 remaster (reload) and MAN that finale broke me. I loved it but i have been sad since then but your explanation helped me see it from another way, so thanks am no longer sad
Persona 3 Reload is my favorite game ever now and the ending is one of the reasons why. It’s amazing and one of the few endings of… anything in fiction, really, to make me cry.
The hopelessness of the fight with Nyx in P3 is further cemented if you know who she is in Greek Mythology, Nyx is one of the only beings that not even a raging narcissist like Zeus would dare get on her bad side. So if she's powerful enough to make the of King of Olympus sweat what kind of chance do a bunch of Highschooler's stand.
I would also like to point out how different the endings are for each character between base P5 and Royal, in Royal I view the characters going off on their own as a representation of them pursuing their own paths in life away from Joker. In Royal we actually get to hear everyones plans for their future and it makes you realize they won’t be able to hangout and be friends as they could before, they will be on their own paths far away, but will still hold onto that love and affection that made them friends. It’s a very mature ending in that way because while Joker is going home alone this time, he knows that all of friends are truly pursuing their happiness and passions. (Plus obligatory Pancake boy tease)
I feel like P4's ending hit me harder and has stuck with me because Golden was my first Persona game. I can see the criticism now, of course, but that nostalgia factor and it being my first experience with this kind of game keeps it high level for me.
With Persona 4 it's kind of a 50/50 for me because on the one hand it's myriad different endings tie directly into it's core theme, that being facing the truth. If you want the True Ending you've got to see it through and it pays off with some really amazing moments. However, I also feel the whole Collective Unconscious aspect of P4 is so underplayed and overshadowed by the 2 main antagonists of the story Adachi and Namatame they Izanami and especially Ameno Sagiri feel like a complete afterthought. Izanami really didn't really have any sort of an end goal either. I'll give credit to Marie though she added an emotional aspect that P4 was was desperately lacking in that part of the game.
Persona 4's ending is truly a good ending. It's literally just a good ending. It's a nice good ending. Although some endings definitely outshine persona 4's ending. Definitely my favorite game still
Bubbletea, I just want to say ur content is amazing, I found your channel recently and have gone through your entire backlog. Please keep up your amazing work and I hope that your channel keeps growing
I wish you talked about P5S, that was the first persona game I played, after already knowing everything about P5&P5R but that games ending hit me hard, I was nearly crying at the end, which is rare for me
Hey man, Great Video! I also graduated with my Bachelor's during the start of the Pandemic. When I finally was ready for the world, it shut me out. I honestly thought life would be just an endless cycle of working in an dead end job. But I too found enjoyment in streaming! Whether it's streaming games or showing my art I'm having a great time doing it while I wait for my dream job. I may not be some big time streamer/artist but I'm really grateful for all the people I've met. Here's to a better year and a better future!
Eternal Punishment's ending affects me the most. Knowing that even the closest of friends will eventually have to move on with their lives even if they end up being less happy than being with their loved ones, which was Tatsuya's greatest fear. Tatsuya is unable to stay in the new universe as he screwed up his chance to be in it as he's afraid of being alone again even with his memories that are supposed to be wiped away. Able to atone for refusing to forget by returning to his ruined universe, leaving behind his loved ones who may or may not remember, and even denying Maya's possible attempt to come with him, with the only positive thing from it that he'll able to help the survivors rebuild their ruined world.
I remember playing thru the true ending by beating Marukis palace and then immediately after, doing the actualization plan for maruki. That shit was sooo sad made me ball seeing the whole cast happy with their loved one they can no longer see. I understand it’s not the real reality but damn that shit still hurt seeing them all happy again for stuff they’ll never get the chance to see or be again.
I remember feeling like I was hit by a truck when I reached the end of Persona 3. I was young, but at the same time, I was old enough to have come to know death and I was terrified by it, a creeping existential dread that screamed in my heart and mind for what felt like months. Playing through P3 thrust a lot of that into the front of my mind, making reaching the end of the game scary in its own way… but I didn't want to let down the connections that the MC made with the people around him. I pushed through the end of the game and the last month, fought Nyx and cheered when I heard Shinjiro during the final phase of Nyx's fight. I felt the ending speaking to me during those final days, it was over… but it was okay, the connections were there… And then the protagonist died. I'm not ashamed to admit that it made me cry when I realized what happened. It took me a while to really mull over the massage of Persona 3 and realize how much it had helped me in dealing with that existential dread I'd been dealing with, and how it had inspired me. I love this ending now, to the point that it's my favourite ending in any game of the SMT franchise as a whole.
26:10 I kinda can relate to that. When the pandemic started, I was desperate. I believed that everything I hold dear was lost somehow... It was near the end of my life in college, I was already unsure of what would become of my life after graduation, and then, the pandemic came... It took me a lot of time, but I learned a lot playing Persona. Before the pandemic, I didn't play many games, but then, spending more time at home, I started to play the games from two franchises: Persona and Fire Emblem. What I love about both of them is how they value our bonds and the loyalty to our friends and our believes to overcome our own hardships. I'm still recovering from the shock the pandemic caused in me, and honestly, I don't know if I'll ever truly recover from it, but now, I have a new dream. I wish to be a professor someday. I'm already taking classes and preparing myself to start this career, because I think I'll be able to experience life with a lot of learning and the constant dinamic of a classroom. If I'm able to teach and create a fun, safe learning place for my students, then I'll be more then happy to do it ❤
Persona 4 was my first persona game and still remains my favourite Persona game. I would love to play persona 3 though and my husband usually plays Persona 5 (all games) and so I watch him play it instead.
30:57 I think the main reasons that the departure scene of P4 doesn't hit as hard as P3 is because, it's just a departure, it's literally just the MC and friends saying goodbye to each other, but in a dramatic and emotional way, even though they can still meet again, which they have several times as seen in Arena and Golden epilogue, Teddie's monologue really doesn't sell anything, it's basically the exact same thing that we've already heard throughout the game And compare that to P3, where characters remember the promise they made together, Aigis's monologue that is much more meaningful than Teddie's, then combine that with the fact that it was not just any goodbye, it was the last time the main cast can meet the P3MC; and you can see why P3 ending hits way harder
Persona 4's characters were done so well. Yosuke being selfish and jealous, Yukiko wanting to move away, Rise rejecting the idol part of herself, Naoto despising being born female, Teddie wanting to be someone special and helpful but realizing he can't be all the time, they all felt very relatable (especially Naoto in my case) and like genuine people. It was like I had a connection to those lovable characters and I didn't want to let go of the game and the people who I could understand.
The way I’ve seen the ending of P3 and why Makoto dies, is due to him being the only thing capable of sealing Nyx away. I feel in a way due to death being sealed in him part of it grew on him and manifested itself as Pharos, only to get set free and come back as Ryoji. In a sense he ‘became’ death and death ‘became’ him. The Great Seal didn’t take all his hp because of fatigue or using the Universe Arcana is instant death. It took all his hp because his soul/himself was the only thing strong enough to seal Nyx away.
26:51 "i look forward for brand new days" Yeah me too, i look for when that song will play in my playlist. Also, about the cheering in 3-5, personally 5 makes the most sense. Due to merging of real and cognitive worlds. Firstly they cease to exist due to they're missing from public's cognition. But when they got cheered on, public's cognition turns to smth along "they definitely could do it" then materialize into power that helps joker summon satanael. Probably.
I have a genius idea for the next persona game, listen: 1st - we are not playing as a trickster and don't have a wild card ability, but we play as a ruin charecter, who can awake Persona in any man or woman. 2nd - we fight against the trickster, who using his abilities in not a good way. 3rd - The trickster is protagonist's father.
Thanks for pointing out how the (maxed-out Akechi) Royal ending hinted about Akechi's fate. Royal was my first playthrough, so it confused the heck out of me.
I've said it before, and I'll likely say it again. But it was even more ambiguous in the original Persona 3's ending that he died, given how you didn't have the extra dialog between all the S-Links and overall wordings of some parts. (Also very enjoyable vid~ )
Persona 3's ending left such an impact on me that I still think about it almost 15 years after playing for the first time. Easily my favorite ending in any game ever (though I do also love KH2's ending). And I also lean more toward vanilla P5's ending over P5R. I get that P5R is supposed to be the crew moving on and they needed to squeeze Yoshizawa & Maruki in there, BUT I liked that your friends get to join you for one last journey. It feels like a good sendoff and there's a sense of optimism and hope.
The whole background plot of Elizabeth going on a jounery to free the P3 protag would be an easier thing to write off if it wasn't continuously brought back up across multiple games and spin offs. I don't know if Atlus ever plans on going anywhere with that. But it should be noted that by changing humanity's hearts, the Phantom Thieves may have unintentionally set events in motion for the P3 protag to finally be freed of his shackles and pass on, as was stated to be the only way for him to be free.
P3 Portable, Kotone dying is much more painful then Makoto. Kotone is a shining light at the end of the tunnel, she sacrificed her future for the sake of her bonds.
19:30 I LOLed at "one hour". (Didn't mean anything towards you, though.) It's usually longer than that for first time players, and that's just the fight itself, no cutscenes or anything before or after.
I played P5R and absolutely loved the true ending. I really liked the new characters and Akechi so all of their confidants were maxed out. I got to see all of the cool interactions with them. I really wish you could’ve kept Sumire and Akechi as party members if you started NG+, but the ending hit so hard for me since I was so attached to the characters. Also after Maruki’s English voice actor passed, all of his speeches just his so much harder.
Definitely found that ambiguity bit of 3’s original ending interesting. I mean, I knew he died before even playing the game, but that’s really not clear. Not to mention I still completely missed out on the signs (the social link characters saying you look like death in the epilogue). I don’t think I would’ve even realized he died had I not already known.

I guess this could also fall into the idea that the writers writing him as a taxi driver in the end because of how the media portrays them if so it fits really well with him being a counselor and now a taxi driver
i don’t know how intentional that was, but it’s a neat observation.
And The Answer confirms it even more since (SPOILER) Makoto becomes the Great Seal to keep The Answer's final boss to reach Nyx
@@Redder_Creeps if you're including The Answer, don't they directly bring that up right at the start?
The ending of Persona 3 hit me like a truck. Aigis’ bittersweet monologue changed my entire perspective on life, and as the credits rolled, I just sat in my chair in awe. Not to mention the music in the last ten minutes is doing it’s damn best to make you sob your heart out. What a phenomenal way to end a phenomenal game.
"The wind feels so nice..."
I love playing persona 3 with the starter gear
Agreed, I'm also going to give credit to Portable as well because while it does miss the animated cutscene the NG+ ending results in your loved one running up to the roof first and... if you've not seen Yukari's dialogue in that scene it hits like a train.
@@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective I mean portable is alright but it should not be the one there porting it should been fes overall.
@@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective Well, Atlus does love to spit on a perfectly fine message in their re-releases.

@@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective Ultimax at the very least is very good fighting game.
I loved that ending, but I’m just upset that Akechi had to die for it to happen (I know about the thing in the last cutscene with him, but still).
@@blitzboy2934 I think Maruki referred to Akechi's fate in vague terms for a reason. We don't really know what happened to him.

@Zombie Hunter wdym?
Fun fact about Namatame going into politics: it's mentioned in a TV report in P5. (In December)
Golden's epilogue actually has a few modifications based on whose Social Links you completed and in some cases who you romanced.
Purest definition of not playing the game

Yeah. I got that alternate scene when I went for Marie on my second playthrough. Though I wish she was more integrated in Golden's storyline instead of just being there at times just like how Atlus did with Kasumi Yoshizawa.
You can also actually date any of the original girls + Marie without any repercussions. So it's more of a choice than being forced into you.
The part in Royals ending where you fistfight Maruki hit me so hard. It felt so real and raw compared to the rest of a game, as you finally face off as equals. It was a perfect way to end off that masterpiece of a palace.

Who were those people chasing the van at the end of P5R?
I know this comment is only 2 weeks old, but it still is underrated.
Fourtunatly I fucked up the true ending for P5R and got the normal end instead
@redjackal2368 Honestly Maruki should have won. That is the real Happy Ending.
Persona 4 Golden is my first persona game and the ending broke me. I spent the night crying. Sad that it's gone, happy that it happend.
@fynchan11nahhh, the dungeons sucked. Loved everything else tho
Have you tried p3?
Something I want to see in Persona 6 (if that happens) where the final dungeon is owned by the Protagonist, and all the normal enemies are based off all the Personas you recruited and the mid-bosses are based on your allies and other confidants you made over the progress of the game,
Also you lose yourself as a playable member if the team, so only your are allies playable; this kinda results on them taking complete reflection of their growth, since the strength of the mid bosses are dependent on your confidant rank with them
This was all done in P1. While is not explicity yours, the final dungeon belongs to Maki, who is just as important as the MC in that game
@@steelblake Persona fans haven't played the first three games.

Persona 6 is happening
(Probably have the protag be of the Temperance Arcana.)
My thinking is that the main character could remain a mostly silent protagonist, but their voice actor would still have a major speaking role as the Persona instead.
There’s nothing more depressing than a Persona ending leaving you empty

@@Luchux177 you forget tatsuya suou, the first sacrifice in the entire series...
TBF, the idea the protagonist could never return to Inaba seems really, really silly. It’s a good thing they retconned it if that’s the case.
I never had that implication that the MC would never return. From where do you get that assumption? it was a happy ending through and through.
The ending of Eternal Punishment is one of only a couple of things that when I watch it, I will just immediately start crying. So heart-breaking.
I forgot how much I loved the original P5 ending.

I HONESTLY LOVE THIS CHANNEL MAN, YOU MADE MY DAY
honestly in regards to the Persona 4 ending, i think it hits hardest in the anime. they decided to take P3's The Answer's idea and have one day on repeat, with only Narukami realizing something's off. when they talk about the midnight channel and the TV world, Narukami finally pieces it together just as the day repeated itself.
Bad Endings video showed in in my recommendeds randomly. And from there I binged a bunch of videos. Always happy for a nice discovery.
Do you even watch anime bro? Japanese Highschool students are probably the only force stronger than a primordial God/Goddess.
Do his friends accompany him home in the OG ending?
@@jbear3478 they do
I feel like P4's ending hit me harder and has stuck with me because Golden was my first Persona game.
I'll give credit to Marie though she added an emotional aspect that P4 was was desperately lacking in that part of the game.
i feel like almost every persona game has a hard hitting endingd
Persona 4's ending is truly a good ending. It's literally just a good ending. It's a nice good ending. Although some endings definitely outshine persona 4's ending. Definitely my favorite game still
Love how you uploaded this the moment I finished Persona 5 Royal lol
w video
w channel
w game series
Watching these videos makes me want to play the other persona games (other than P5 and P5R) more than I already wanted to
Bubbletea, I just want to say ur content is amazing, I found your channel recently and have gone through your entire backlog. Please keep up your amazing work and I hope that your channel keeps growing
Words can't express how much Aigis's words in the rooftop scene fundamentally altered the chemicals in my brain.
Praise our savior Door-kun ! Live your life to the fullest and don't go calling for Nyx.
"Don't you just love when higher being wager on the lives of normal people?"
Why do you think I go for Neutral Endings in Shin Megami Tensei games?
I felt the ending speaking to me during those final days, it was over… but it was okay, the connections were there…
And then the protagonist died.
Gotta say as someone new to your content this was a really analysis! Keep up the good work
26:10 I kinda can relate to that.
If I'm able to teach and create a fun, safe learning place for my students, then I'll be more then happy to do it ❤
I'll agree that the P3 ending had a lot more weight than the P4 one, but I absolutely adore the P4 cast too much to not have it as my favorite
Persona 4 was my first persona game and still remains my favourite Persona game. I would love to play persona 3 though and my husband usually plays Persona 5 (all games) and so I watch him play it instead.

I think the main reasons that the departure scene of P4 doesn't hit as hard as P3 is because, it's just a departure, it's literally just the MC and friends saying goodbye to each other, but in a dramatic and emotional way, even though they can still meet again, which they have several times as seen in Arena and Golden epilogue, Teddie's monologue really doesn't sell anything, it's basically the exact same thing that we've already heard throughout the game
And compare that to P3, where characters remember the promise they made together, Aigis's monologue that is much more meaningful than Teddie's, then combine that with the fact that it was not just any goodbye, it was the last time the main cast can meet the P3MC; and you can see why P3 ending hits way harder
"And now, I look forward to Brand New Days."
Heheh, i get it, its because The Answer's theme is called Brand New Days, he did a pun.
I'll shut up now
Persona 4's characters were done so well.
Every person ending is just perfection!!!!
Along with well this. Video recommending this to me late still worth it
The way I’ve seen the ending of P3 and why Makoto dies, is due to him being the only thing capable of sealing Nyx away.
What’s crazy to me is how the only hint to Izanami is the reference in Izanagi’s description
Man you work hard
Wished you clocked in 1 FOR REAL for the time joke. Great vid
26:51 "i look forward for brand new days"
Yeah me too, i look for when that song will play in my playlist.
Probably.
I have a genius idea for the next persona game, listen:
1st - we are not playing as a trickster and don't have a wild card ability, but we play as a ruin charecter, who can awake Persona in any man or woman.
2nd - we fight against the trickster, who using his abilities in not a good way.
3rd - The trickster is protagonist's father.
this was an amazing video
Great video
sacrificing a comment to the algorithm to not let this video flop, i enjoyed your previous video a lot man, good luck on your yt journey
Sacrificing a reply because bored
Thanks for pointing out how the (maxed-out Akechi) Royal ending hinted about Akechi's fate. Royal was my first playthrough, so it confused the heck out of me.
I've said it before, and I'll likely say it again. But it was even more ambiguous in the original Persona 3's ending that he died, given how you didn't have the extra dialog between all the S-Links and overall wordings of some parts.
(Also very enjoyable vid~ )
This is a great video thanks for making it
Persona 3's ending left such an impact on me that I still think about it almost 15 years after playing for the first time.
Isnt that exactly what makoto did or am i stupid
19:30 I LOLed at "one hour". (Didn't mean anything towards you, though.) It's usually longer than that for first time players, and that's just the fight itself, no cutscenes or anything before or after.
Nice work!
Actually, the golden epilogue takes place 1 year after Persona 4 Arena and Ultimax, BTW.
Way to start my new year
Awesome video again, great stuff
Keep the Good work 🔥
P3's ending works but i had me so sad because i was able to catch the fact that he died.
Great video!
Graduation day is a good day for the release of P3Reload. 😎
21:11 the p3 movie made me bawl at this scene. It didn’t have to be that good
great video loved it ❤
