In the winter of 97’ I purchased the CD because I had a crush her singing this song. Now I visit here because I’m very homesick for places that don’t exist anymore.
It's now May 2024, this came on the radio, the sun was out and took me right back to uni days. Since then I have been on a Beth Orton retrospective in the car!
Because it's both timeless, neutral singer-songwriter pop-rock, but with artistic merit and content. Even a touch of avant guard. That is why it doesn't age and isn't dated at all. This goes for almost all music, tv, film, etc anytime before the 2000s.
One Saturday morning at some point in 1996 this video was played on ITV's 'The Chart Show' and changed my life, and probably other people's lives forever. Love you Beth!
Did you know that Beth was in a lot of pain during the shooting of the video? She had a flare up of her Crohn's disease and she could have cancelled the shoot, but she decided to face it out. And now we have this masterpiece! (You can tell that she wasn't feeling very well during some of the shots).❤
l knew l recognised those eyes. l have always luved this song ever since l 1st heard it in 98' l think. There was something so eerie but familiar about it all. l have suffered from Ulcerative Colitis for over 28yrs. Crohns is the 'sister' disease to it. If she filmed during a Flare, she is a fucking trooper! That white hot, stabbing abdominal pain, followed by the subsequent pissing and shitting of blood that leaves you paralyzed with pain and confusion, isn't just a trival stomach bug, you can ignore and it'll go away. Amazing effort by her to continue through #ibdwarrior
I heard this song for the first time last week, in the background on a compilation album in a hotel. I asked my phone 'what is this song' and stood by the speaker while it checked as I really wanted to know. It is truly wonderful. Searched youtube for it today (home now) and only just discovered how long I've not known about it! Well, better late than never.
James Chambers I'm glad you had a fast enough connection. I can't tell you how many times I tried to find a song while my internet is spinning trying to get a connection and then the song is over lost maybe forever.
I agree. There were other songs from the 90's that invoked that feeling. Don't know why that was. That's what I thought about when I read your comment.
I was four when this was released, yet it still gives me a sense of nostalgia, almost as if I heard it as a child and the memory's buried in my subconscious somewhere. I only heard it on the radio the other day and thought it was beautiful.
Beth Orton reminds me so much of Sandy Denny (singer for Fairport Convention) - some quality of voice that they share, and some of the phrasing in her compositions...
I've been looking for this song since I was 14 or 15 yrs old. I'm glad I finally found it at 37. She has a hauntingly beautiful voice and she is also very beautiful herself. Thank God for Google. Lol
This was the first album I bought when I started working. Money was tight, so it had to be something worthwhile purchasing. I bought central reservation also a few years later when I had a few extra quid to spare :)
The whole album makes me think of a near deserted highway winding its way through the Mojave desert in blistering heat to a lonely diner in the middle of nowhere..... hard to compute when you find the artist comes from rainy Britain.
I can't believe this haunting beautiful voice! Along side of that that deep south music....but of course she's British! They always seem to capture the sultry south almost better than the southerners do!
Brilliant debut - an intoxicating blend of folk and late 90's electronica. Funny how some reviews I've seen say the sound is a bit dated...I completely disagree. All of Beth's songs have a timeless quality, but the added flourishes and soundscapes on this album add that extra pop and color that make this album such a rewarding and engaging listen. All of her other CD's are good, but in my opinion none of the others touch Trailer Park.
aahh the 90's...my daughter who is 18 ws playing this out of itunes and it stopped me in my tracks I had not heard it in at least 12 years. I gave he a high five and we listened to it together.
My cat miaowed at me when I got home from work, and I started singing this song at her :) and now we're both enjoying your lovely song I nearly forgot about :) Thanks Beth x
This song appeared on an episode of the TV show, Roswell (original) and I have never forgotten it. This song is not on the DVDs or re-runs or streaming versions of Roswell. It was perfect for the episode where Alex died. It made me love this song and Beth Orton’s voice. Underrated artist. Haunting song. Love it.
@@MephProduction it said she won two BRIT awards which are prestigious af on her first album and that. It also sold more then 200k copies so people definitely knew her and then by the time for her second it sold 500k.
Falling from the western shore to find yourselves alone again Wondering where you have been Your lonely voice calls across the starlit coast reaching out to be seen She cries your name three times again She cries your name How long can this love remain Cut beneath the surface screen of what we say and what we seem, is a trick to be seen She keeps crying out your name But her scream sound the same, how fickle fate can be She cries your name three times again She cries your name How long can this love remain Birds that scream for territory can learn to sing euphorically Give him time and he's real And there's a wasteland in your soul the burned out trees will leave you cold, living out an ideal She cries your name three times again She cries your name, How long can this love remain She cries your name three times again She cries your name How long can this love remain
I first heard this song in '97, loved it and was intrigued but didn't know whose it was. It was good to hear folk music back then (and now) but it's hard to think of it ever sounding quite like this before. Love Orton's voice; her guitar; the lyrics; the eerie, haunting intro and fade at the end. Perfect video for the song, which I think is one of a kind.
Once in awhile you discover an artist with that unique and sexy voice. This talented artist is the real deal. I just love her . Every time my shuffle CD player throws down a tune from one of her CD's I stop and listen....just to hear that sexy voice and delivery clearly. Thanks Beth, you are loved.
I am in the USA and this song, while it was not a charted hit, did get some play on various satellite music networks that provide music to restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping malls. I remember hearing this song a lot back in the late 90's when I would go into one of those places and for a long time, I thought the Cranberries sang it.
Beth, you're Heart Chakra True.... after all these years, wow how it resonates. You are and have been amazing. Namaste sweet one; Namaste -John Galt's Hank

Still love Beth Orton for everything she stands for she may have relatively low viewership in comparison to the artists at the forefront of mainstream music, but she has more talent in her pinky finger then all those artists put together. Superficiality is one-dimensional real beauty encompasses the whole book not just parts of it. America and countries that follow in our direction have a lot of growing up to do, with all love and light
I can't believe I never knew you or your music. Just found out and love your music! What's crazy is that on the east coast a load of talent was being flooded in the world the same year 1996. It was my concert year so the year before and a few years down I have never seen so many bands live. I totally pay attention to artisan of all type and I can't believe I missed your videos. This particular song, I have heard on the radio but If you hear a song once or twice and never see the video, you humanly tend to forget and I'm a musician. Man, you are awesom Beth Orton! 🙂🎸
The point i forgot to mention was the reason for me finding your videos is because I had ordered cds to play on this dj controller and the BPL library donated all these cds to a company i bought them from and I am so happy. I popped in your cd first because it had an atom on it lol. I heard Tangent and LOST MY F'n MIND lol. I play it LOUD every day! Thank you!

And a time we'll never be able to visit again.
That pla😂ce exists every day cos tune so cool
Tunes and places always cool if it's YOUR fave thing 🥰😎
Just can’t believe this was first released in 1996 !!!! Still sounds fresh today in 2023, Great tune and love it
Almost sounds fresher now!
What can I say. Apart from Kate Bush, Beth Orton has one of the most haunting voices ever!! .As with Kate Bush, she gives me major goosebumps!!WOW.❤
Agree on those two and will add Julianne Regan (All About Eve)
Music is always strongly linked to memories of when you listened to it the most. For me this song is quintessentially late 90s. And it is stunning.
Agree on all three, will add Sandy Denny.
I am a music & video historian. You are watching the best song/video presentation of the 1990's.
The 90's really was a magical time for music and movies, such talents and range, so many styles and new ideas. I miss it.
It's now May 2024, this came on the radio, the sun was out and took me right back to uni days. Since then I have been on a Beth Orton retrospective in the car!
Beth-- I said hello -=0-9
Good idea Beth CDs are going in the car
Ladies and gentlemen, the most underrated female musician of all-time, enjoy her beautiful start of her career.
Absolutely concur!!!!!!
Yes, she is even more underrated than Kate Bush at least in America.
Kaan Şensoy j
Kaan Şensoy not to those of us who know good music..
Highest credits!
I’d love to hear this for first time again. Gave me goosebumps
I am and it is
Yes
everytime you hear it you know its like the first time.. dont lie...it still hits you deep inside and take you back
I was listening to white zombie, slayer, coal chamber at about that time. still went out and brought this single.
Don't understand why Beth Orton isn't better known....if you offered me tickets to her or Taylor Swift, I'd go for the pure talent of Orton
I saw her perform at Lilith Fair in 1999. She was one of the best acts there, along with Cibo Matto.
I come from the future. From the year 2024, and I still love this song as I did 15 years ago when I first listen to Beth Orton.
Dear Beth Orton, thank you for this masterpiece ❤️
Yeah
Short and straight to the point...great.
Wisdom well beyond her years!
In the age of digital this reduces me to tears!
This ages well. Strange to think it's 22 years old.
yeah right there!
Because it's both timeless, neutral singer-songwriter pop-rock, but with artistic merit and content. Even a touch of avant guard. That is why it doesn't age and isn't dated at all. This goes for almost all music, tv, film, etc anytime before the 2000s.
Aye
24 Years by now, and still incredibly beautiful .....
To me, this is a monument in pop music history !!!
I think I first heard this on an old CMJ New Music sampler CD I bought at the time. This still sounds fresh today.
One Saturday morning at some point in 1996 this video was played on ITV's 'The Chart Show' and changed my life, and probably other people's lives forever. Love you Beth!

❤So beautiful, that shot at 2:31! I love her!❤
Beautiful woman, amazing song, amazing artist. I'm glad I accidentally stumbled upon Beth Orton, it's been a music-changing experience.
This song reminds me of something deeply disturbing but beautiful, I've never heard anything that made me feel like this, weird. I love it.

snap it has the same emotional pull apon me :)
I agree. There were other songs from the 90's that invoked that feeling. Don't know why that was. That's what I thought about when I read your comment.

She puts on one hell of a live show. They love her in Germany.
Beth Orton and Hope Sandoval. The two most underappreciated 90s music hotties!
Wow, I was just thinking exactly that last night. I had a chance to meet Hope Sandoval in San Francisco in the mid-'90s.
The whole album makes me think of a near deserted highway winding its way through the Mojave desert in blistering heat to a lonely diner in the middle of nowhere..... hard to compute when you find the artist comes from rainy Britain.
I drive those highways in my 69 chevelle 395 , 247, 66 , 15, 58 , all of them ! I'm a ghost of the roads
It doesn't ALWAYS* rain 'ere mate.
*it snows too!
What a great song! The whole thing is great and the cellist - original and lovely
I think the cellist is Becky Doe: I was at school with her (but she’s several years younger than me).
I can't believe this haunting beautiful voice! Along side of that that deep south music....but of course she's British! They always seem to capture the sultry south almost better than the southerners do!
My Goddess Beth Orton..Janis Patti, Beth, Billie, Bessie...brilliant singers and musicians
Beth is so beautiful
This album helped me through a breakup a very long time ago ..the sweet suffering ..lol.

She is Awesome...and I would so love to look like she does in this video. So natural..Great song!

Trailer Park is one of the greatest albums ever. One of my all time favorites.
I remember mid 90s she was big in uk .
then I went to states and saw her in a small bar playing x
she was never that big in the uk, her biggest hit was only 36, and she got very little air play.
@@MephProduction it said she won two BRIT awards which are prestigious af on her first album and that. It also sold more then 200k copies so people definitely knew her and then by the time for her second it sold 500k.
MORE Beth Orton!
Love, love,love her song.
Getting me some of that new album as soon as it comes out. September 2022
Falling from the western shore to find yourselves alone again
Wondering where you have been
Your lonely voice calls across the starlit coast reaching out to be seen
She cries your name three times again
She cries your name
How long can this love remain
Cut beneath the surface screen of what we say and what we seem, is a trick to be seen
She keeps crying out your name
But her scream sound the same, how fickle fate can be
She cries your name three times again
She cries your name
How long can this love remain
Birds that scream for territory can learn to sing euphorically
Give him time and he's real
And there's a wasteland in your soul the burned out trees will leave you cold, living out an ideal
She cries your name three times again
She cries your name,
How long can this love remain
She cries your name three times again
She cries your name
How long can this love remain
You there
*twelve...thank you though X
Those wailing cellos!
'So glad a UK pal brought Beth Orton in to my life! This song has a bit of an "Ode to Billy Joe" feel at the beginning.
it sure does !
I noticed that right off the bat. Ode.
She was recruited to sing on Mercury Rev's Bobbie Gentry tribute album.
I love the intimate and personal style of this video. It really makes you feel the music.
I miss the 90's.
Timeless elegance ❤
Where in the hell have I been? This woman is one damned great artist, and I'm only finding out about her today?!!! I have truly been missing out!!!
I saw Beth Orton live at The Cat's Cradle, Carrboro, NC, 1999. She stayed around after her show and met the audience. Nice lady. 😊
