    Honestly I don't get why these cars get so much hate. I've driven one and it was actually pretty nice. Had the 3.9 in it. Has a lot of low end torque, a smooth ride, and for a car it's size, it handles really well.

    I think people like the Chevy Impala for the same reasons people dislike them: they're simple, straight forward, and get the job done. Some of us find cars like the Camry, Accord, and Altima to be goofy looking. The Impala has that classic American look and gives you a solid ride. To each his own but some of us like the Impala because it's as American as a car can get.

      I agree with you, I have a friend with a 2010 model which is basically the same, and it gets him to and from work EVERY damn shift in hard Canadian winters where his friends with Dodge Chargers, Chrysler 300's etc... panic at the first sign of snow/ice as they are Rear-Wheel Drive!
      Impalas are a pretty safe platform, Front-Wheel Drive, pretty reliable!

    One of the worst reviews I've ever seen on this car... like wtf I clicked on this video to watch a review, not hear someone whine and b!tch for almost 20 minutes straight. For an honest brief review that's not negative, read my comment- I had the chance to drive a 2012 Impala LS with the 3.6L over the course of several days and what I loved most was the engine and how it hauls @$$. Putting in the 3.6 is the best thing GM could have ever done to this car. I found it to have an unexpected amount of get up and go that actually put a smile on my face. And unlike what this "guy" says in the video you actually don't have to rev it very high to get power out of it thanks to the VVT. This car has effortless power on the highway and plenty of pep around town. Even going up long grades I was still maintaining 80+ and the transmission was smooth and did a good job with adapting to conditions. I didn't care for how the braking felt but other than that I was actually impressed on how the car performed. It's quiet, seats are comfortable, steering is smooth, suspension soaks up bumps nicely, has more than enough space inside, has a massive trunk, and gets decent fuel economy for having 300+ horsepower. People are way too hard on these cars. I'm happy I got a chance to drive one for a little bit. I used to think these were somewhat boring cars but I was wrong and the one I drove exceeded my expectations by a lot..... I would consider buying one for the right price

    The last year was 2014 for this Generation Impala. They made them along with the newer body style. I had a 2007 and just bought a 2012 and love them both.

  • @nigahiga6400
    @nigahiga6400 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    My only minor complaint with the Impala is how the wipers, turn signals, and hi-beam controls are all integrated into one column, but I got used to it after a day's rental. I have never driven an Impala before, but after driving it for a day it felt like I owned it. The controls are laid out well, easy to operate with big knobs and buttons. It has everything you need, nothing you don't. LTZ models have luxury car features. Automatic start, heated seats, dual zone, power seats, leather. Giant trunk. The rear seats are not bad, unless you push the front seats all the way back. I am 6ft 2 inches and I fit in the backseat comfortably with the front seat in a comfortable position for me.
    The 2012 Impala chassis is not from the late 80's. It's a modern unibody design. GM's B-body platform, which underpinned the legendary Caprice 9C1, was discontinued in 1996. Impalas from 1961 to 1985 and the 1994-1996 Impala SS were B-body. The 2000 Impala is a 2nd generation W-body platform car. The 2006 redesign uses the 3rd Generation W-body platform. The W-body shares little in common with the B-body. Anyone with a little knowledge of American cars will know GM discontinued the long-lived B-body platform in 1996.
    The lack of a gear indicator on the shifter isn't a problem. It has the standard automatic transmission PRNDL layout. You count clicks and yes, look on the instrument cluster. I've done that with every non-gated automatic I have ever driven. Pull the shifter until you feel a click as it slots into reverse. Then pull it for two more clicks, putting it in Drive. Job done. I guess operating an automatic transmission is too demanding of a task for this guy.
    He fails to point out any positive aspects. Besides simplicity, it's a comfortable car with good power and performance, and surprising fuel economy. It's quiet, with a conservative styling that won't draw too much attention. Keeping the same body style for years and years is a major benefit. Replacement parts are cheaper and easier to source. Think about what made the Crown Victoria a major fleet success. It kept the same exact body style for over a decade. And guess what? A '99 Crown Vic hood will fit on a 2008. Repairs then are dirt cheap because of an abundance of parts. And it's got pep in it. It will hit 60mph in 6.6 seconds, which is faster than many other cars out there. These cars are a great buy. Rental car companies regularly sell their fleet cars to used car dealers or through their own sales branch. Boatloads of LT and LTZ trim cars with around 30-40k miles under $15k. A comparable Honda, Toyota, or Subaru with similarly low mileage would cost considerably more.
    In car reviews, there exists a double standard. It's perfectly fine if a Toyota or Honda is a bit boring, but it becomes a huge source of negative criticism if it's a GM, Ford, or Chrysler product. I'll bet if this had a Toyota badge on it he would have downplayed the bland styling and emphasize simplicity as a virtue rather than a curse. The 9th generation Impala is one of the most underrated and under-appreciated cars of all time. I have rented the 2012 Impala on numerous occasions, including the 2014 Limited (identical to 2012/13, but fleet only), driving a total of over 5000 miles in these cars. These are the iconic American sedan after the demise of the Crown Victoria.

    Ok, you could try to be a little more open minded going into a video instead of your unprofessional "let's get this review over with" attitude. I own a 2008 Chevrolet impala 2LT, and it has been one of the best vehicles ever. For the money, this car stacks up against the competition very well, you are looking at a base model if you didn't notice. (Base model with alloy wheels, genius, that's impressive no matter how small,& fyi a 2LT has 17 inch wheels) For not having driven the vehicle, you sure as hell have no clue how it handles, which happens to be more than decent for a full size sedan. If you're going to do car reviews, you need to be unbiased, instead of deciding you're going to pull on every panel until you find one that will bend because you have a preconceived notion that the car is cheap. That plastic cover panel on the passenger side near the floor, yeah it's the interior fuse box, check next time to see that things have a purpose before calling them as a flaw. And btw, you need to learn to hold a camera. I feel like I'm having a seizure whenever I watch one of your videos. Very unprofessional.

    I actually view the 2012 impala as the best value on the market today. You get GM's best engine that they put in EVERYTHING, including $60k+ cadillacs as well as the new 6 speed auto transmission. Where i live you can find 2012's with under 30k miles for 14k bucks, outstanding value, and this is LTZ trim im talkin about with leather and remote start.

    This guy Is reviewing a base model,and its for someone whos on a budget and doesnt want to spend too much.but they still get the kick ass engine.wich is a beast!like he said the cadillac cts has the same one.my ltz has leather,the same bad ass engine,moon roof,heated seats,remote start,spoiler,18 inch alloy rims with low pro's(stock)with the chevy emblem in the middle,fog lamps,and it looks beautiful ive gotten alot of compliments.its quiet and comfortable.and it handles bad ass!the 300 horses are there baby.Bose stereo system,aux input,three power outlets(the 3rd is inside the arm rest)and i still just payed 15k.so i can imagine what this base model is going for.He should have reviewed an ltz or SS.but then again he sounds like hed turn around and give a VW jetta an awsome review with two big thumbs up.(his ass).Chevy definitely did not dissapoint.test drive one yourself.Highly reccomended!Great value.

    Is this guy serious? I have been in the competition and the Impala is a GREAT value for the money. It is comfortable, it is roomy, the A/C will freeze you out of the car, it rides great, and the interior is VERY nice looking ESPECIALLY compared to the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. He lied about the chassis being from the late 80s or 90s too. Old school? It is right up there with the foreign competition. This guy is just anti G.M. He is everything that is wrong with this country.
    My Mother has a Chevrolet Impala with the optional sunroof and the extras and I have driven it so I KNOW what I am talking about.

      The W Body platform debuted in 1988 but this is the 3rd version heavily updated so its not that old so you are right. However since it debuted in 1988 its still not modern. His review is horrible but he does have a lot of great points. The interior is full of cheap, hard, plastics, fake woodgrain trim (brush silver optional on earlier models), and the back seat is very small for such a large car. Lack of standard available features such as navigation, a back up camera, and various other things I have missed. The suspension is soft (softer on LS/LT models and sportier on LTZ) and handling is bad. However this car wasn't meant to be a sports car just a basic car for transportation. The interior doesn't look bad (just don't feel it) and the style is okay (just plain looking). This car drives good and they are well known to be reliable. For basic transportation you can't go wrong because they are very cheap to buy used (even a later used model) and will last you years. Plus any mechanic can fix it. I own a 2010 Impala LS and I got because it was cheap, I fit in it being 6 feet 4 inches tall, and any mechanic can fix it. If I wanted a better or fancier car I would have gotten one. Less worries with this one. Just my thoughts.

    I have a 2010 and love it. I know the Impala to a lot of ppl say it is a boring car, and yes the style stayed the same for yrs but, one thing I like about the Impala is you can keep it plain or add some style to it. He should have done a review on the Impala LTZ trim level. Mine is a `10 but I`ve had it for 3yrs with no problem. All of my friend with foreign and luxury cars, love the ride and the space. I am looking forward to getting the 2014 Impala. Before buying the Impala I did research on it and the biggest complaint was it was boring. I checked out Altima was not impressed and read a lot of complaint on it even friends and co-workers having issues. I liked the Camry but was scared from their braking issues a few years back. and I am not a fan of VW and Hondas they do nothing for me. I`ve had foreign cars in the pass and this is a very good car compared to them and I have co-workers and friends who love their German&Japanese vehicles but they are cars are always in the shop. Transmission slipping after a year Engines blowing up after 40,000..wth and these are Brand New vehicles. Yes American Cars have messed up but it is a hit or miss. There are ppl I know of that has had crappy and American cars and crappy Foreign cars , and Great Foreign cars and Great American to each his own

      I have a 2010 Impala LS. You are wrong about the room. The car has a huge trunk and plenty of room up front but very little room in the backseat for a large car.The previous generation 2000-2005 Impala had a much bigger backseat. Even the 2000-2007 Ford Taurus which was a mid size car had a much bigger rear seat. This Impala must b one uncomfortable taxi and police car.

    • @misterjgl
      @misterjgl 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ Kurt Wetzel, once again this is a wonderful car and plenty of space unless u are large person up front with leaving little room for the person in the back or with a family which I have none of thee above. everyone says the love my Impala space and style of the car compared to my Taurus(smile) I am hoping to get the 2014

    • @kurtwetzel154
      @kurtwetzel154 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I to usually have no passengers and I am a taller person. Therefore I like the Impala for the front seat room and the fact that the front drivers seat goes way back so I fit comfortably. I do like the car in general besides that. I was just stating the fact that the back seat is small for such a large car. This bashful review is horrible and this is the one of the few things he bitched about that is true.

    • @misterjgl
      @misterjgl 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @ Kurt Wetzel , you are right he could have done a better review. Some people Hate the 2006-2013 Impalas and others love it including me. People bash the American cars saying that they are crap, get the most boring American car and do review etc. But from my experience This is the most reliable car I`ve owned including my foreign cars. Only thing I don't like about this car is my Monthly payments once its paid off I will love it even more

    I bought a 2012 Impala 9C1 PPV (the police model) late last year and I love it. Perhaps the utilitarian interior is better suited to a fleet or police vehicle, but I like it just fine. It's comfortable, spacious, and rugged. The car itself is powerful, fuel-efficient, and fun to drive (it actually handles better than any car I've had to this point), and being a PPV it's built for a rougherr life than it will ever have with me. It's like a Glock - i-it works because it's built like a battleship and ts controls and features are spare and intuitive. It has everything I need and nothing I don't, and that gives it a unique and spartan beauty.

    This car may be dated but it comes with an option that is unavailable on EVERY other new or nearly new car... A column shifter. My grandma was in a car accident five years ago and needed a car with a column shifter and a large center arm rest due to an arm injury resulting from that. This was the only new car she could find with that option at that time. Auto companies, in my mind really should keep column shifters as an option. Not only do some people want them, they need them!

      People simply don't understand how reviews work lol. They're not based on "which car has the most simplicity" or something like that. When you compare this to a chrysler 300 of the same year, the 300 walks the Impala in almost every aspect: it handles better, has a better interior, has more features, has way better seats, etc. But people just choose to ignore that, I guess.
      Not to mention the camry is nearly a Lexus when you look at its interior quietness and ride quality. The 2012 Impala just simply had no place in the market, but god damn they are performance bargains. $6000 will get you a clean one that can do 0-60 in 6 seconds. That beats most cars in its class.

    I have a 2012 ltz, It's pretty damn comfortable and the steering and suspension along with the engine and tranny have been revamped. It's a smooth riding car that has enough balls to damn near break into the high 5's in the 0-60.

    The reason the manual shift buttons are on the steering wheel is because this model comes with an optional column shift with a bench seat, GM didn't want to design 2 different configurations for the manual shift mode.

    Believe it or not this interior was a major improvement over the 2000-2005 Impala. That interior looks like it came out of a early 1990's car, no joke. Look at the interior from one and tell me what you think. The 2006-2013 Impala interior is much better but cheap too. It looks like it came from a late 1990's early 2000's car. Whats worse is that you can't even get some optional features like navigation, a usb port, a back up camera, and other things I am sure I missed.

    This guy keeps knocking things saying that things are like the cars of the 1980's and 1990's. Well - I wish more cars were like cars of the old days - because I hate all the new fancy electronics they put on cars now-a-days. It's just more to go wrong and it just raises up the price on the cars.

    Interior outdated... maybe. I find all features adequate and well made. Fake woodgrain plastic has a cheap feel but again, not overly so and it looks ok. The only real gripe i have with this car so far is the lack of a USB port. Everything else is just fine. Extremely comfortable ride. Quiet interior. Very reliable and powerful engine. Surprisingly good MPG and you can abduct two morbidly obese persons in your trunk.
    If you are looking for bling, gimmicks and all that this car probably is not for you and the competition in this class probably has more features. Having said that, if you want a reliable, no frills large family sedan the Impala is hard to ignore

    i know I am very late but I own a 2009 impala anniversary edition and all of his gripes are because he is in a decontented base model. while my car has the 3.5 V6, power is good, brakes are great and it's a very nice sized big car. i love my impala

    He's wrong about this 2012 being the last of this body style. They kept this style thru 2013. 2014 is the first Impala with the re-designed Body style. He is also wrong that the 2012 used the platform from the 1980's and early 1990's. The 2006 thru 2013 model is similar to the 2000 thru 2005 model Impala - but it has a lot of refinements and updates and a better motor. Not knocking the 2000 thru 2005 models as they were a good car also.

    Even though I drive a Toyota Camry XSE 4 Cylinder, I also like Impalas. If I would get an Impala I would get a LTZ or SS, that’s just me though. But this 2012 LS Impala is pretty nice though. But I wish Sofyan reviewed this car.

    You say that they are the most unreliable but my gf has never had a problem with her 07 LS Impala(2 years) 50k+miles, my brother in-law is an aggressive driver and his supercharged 02 Impala has 150k+ miles and he's only had to do minor fixes on it. GM cars are very reliable and easy/cheap to fix as long as they're taken care of. I see GM cars more than any other manufacturer. Looking out of my window now I see 6 Impala's, 2 LaCrosse's, 2 Monte Carlo's and a Chevrolet Caprice Classic.

    I know this is an old review but what chris said at 15:10 bugs me. The current ford taurus with the non turbo 3.5 makes only 288 at 6500 rpm. Similar with the chryslers 3.6 and toyotas 3.5. Power at the high of an rpm is normal for naturally aspirated engines.

This review however all that is talked about is how bad the car is. This car has lots of good points but you won't hear about them here.

    the gearshift is geeat do you really need to look down at the shifter rather than at the dash to see what gear you are in. i think this is a good car. as far as it not being a sports sedan it is quicker than most v 6 cars incluging mustang

    • @kurtwetzel154
      @kurtwetzel154 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your right its easier to shift gears with a console shifter looking up the dash however it still looks cheap. The gear shift indicators should have been placed by the shifter and the dash. I don't know of any other vehicle that doesn't have the gear shift indicators by the shifter itself. Not sure what GM was thinking.

  • @yaboiguff6282
    @yaboiguff6282 ปีที่แล้ว

    All of you are saying that he's hating on the car when he really isn't. When you look at the year of this car (2012), it's a really old design and needed a refresh badly. Sure it's simple, but the quality and features don't even come close to what other car manufacturers were putting out at the time (Chrysler 300, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Ford Taurus, etc.) When I drove a 2006 impala, his negative comments about the seats and especially the driving position for me was horrible. Now if you compare the 2014 Impala to its competitors, then it's a completely different story. With that being said, I don't think the 2006-2013 Impala is a bad car. There's certainly things to like about it, but I would rather have almost any other full sized sedan over this one.

    Back in 2006 on the base, LS, models the bench seat was standard, In 2007 the bench was not standard on the base, LS, models. Not 100% sure. The standard seats were buckets .The bench seats were an option on LS/LT models for $195. All LTZ models only came with bucket seats as well as the SS. 2008 was the last year for leather bench seats. Finding this style Impala with bucket seats is very easy as most were sold with buckets.

    As much complaining/bitching this guy did I am surprised he didn't bitch about the radio. This Impala has a decent radio but not up to standard. It has a front Aux. input for an iPod/mp3 player but it doesn't sync with the device so you have to change the songs on the device. The sound is decent but should be better. It shows how long this car has been out. I know because I upgraded to an aftermarket radio in my 2010 Impala LS and it has much better sound in every way plus it syncs with my iPod.

    I have a 2012 Impala LT, and although by all means it is crappy compared to a Charger or a Taurus, for someone with college loan debt and a menial job, having a 18 month old full size car for $250 a month is fair, considering I had a car before worth $500.
    For me, I'm not a big fan of gadgetry or lots of buttons (my old car didn't even have traction control). All I want is to be able to stick the car in drive, put on my seatbelt, put in a CD, let the brake out, and be on my way.

Other than that love it.

    Most new or newer cars these days come with a great factory radio. There is no need to replace it with a aftermarket radio which in most cases will sound worse. The majority of news or newer cars have great radios and you don't need to replace them with an aftermarket radio. In fact getting an aftermarket radio (in most cases) will sound worse. Shame on GM for this. I do like the rest of the car.
