This game mode is like entire Reforger - both brilliant and very rough around the edges. With some more work it could be extremely replayable, but right now, with very few possible objectives, not much progression and lack of save option it's just something to kill time on slower days.
My buddies and I use this as a starting point. One of us then hops into GM and adds some things in such as additional objectives and enemy AI. Not being able to save though is a big bummer.
What am I missing about the save option thing? I keep seeing it but idk I can save games?
@@D1ckLongFlop They said they fixed the saves with the last update a few days ago but I'm still unable to save my progress. It says "save and back to menu" when you quit playing but when I come back it's like a ful restart.
@@crasheba1533 yeah right that’s odd, I dunno what save feature they added but a fair few weeks ago now I got a modded map Kunar Province, I found out then exactly what your talking about but then realised I can just save it at the top of the screen where the pause button is and what not, then load back into it, takes me to a restarted map but then I just go up to the load file button and boom. Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if I think I had somthing no one else did but in reality only noticed when they updated it 😂 I am also on Xbox x btw
@@D1ckLongFlop Maybe you were playing a modded map with a custom save/load feature, or maybe the save feature only works on console currently, dunno. The thing is: on PC the new "Combat Ops" mission doesn't save your character's loadout, map position, hideouts discovered, previous random encounters, etc... it only remembers the "tasks" you have completed already but everything else is back to zero. Even the guns and vehicles you've lost are back to the respawn again... It's like starting a new game but with some tasks already completed... so it's a bit annoying. Luckily the map is small enough so it doesn't take you too much time from town to town.

In this game , my only prob is that the AI see you miles away and head shot you through bushes. Sneak them is so hard. It is like if you are in range, they gonna see you no mather what. You never be able to hide behind a tree. Night OPS is impossible. For AI, it's like daytime. For you, can't see a thing. Reforger is sooo good but against real players.

AI on range seems manageable, AI on close combat is where i get shredded within seconds
@@palimpalim4443 honestly I have the opposite issue. Close range where I can see them I mow them down, but they will laser beam me across two wheat fields when I peak over a stone fence to see if there's anyone there.

Its exactly like that in the Arma's too.. One day we will be able to lie down in tall grass and a soldier stepping one feet from you that you can smell hes feet... Imagine the ai we see here but then with the skills from the ghost recon Wildlands where you can be in a bush and hear them talk and look for you.. Greetings from Belgium and thanks for the Video!

Been hooked on squad for a while because it felt less clunky and better made. Now I finally have a reason to start playing Arma again 😆
It would be cool if you could get a squad of ai to follow you and maybe add in some basic commands so even playing in single player you’ll at least have some teammates on your back
This mode makes me wanna give the game a try but this is also a good point. Squad AI would be huge for solo players

I played the previous version on different map the AI was just unfair once you shoot, multiple squads from every directions will come find you.

It's because they hear the shots. They will hear you talk on the mic. If any enemy checkpoint is near they will send a squad to any spot shots are fired. You can fire a shot at them from half a mile and they will eventually find you. It's Smart a.i. npcs bro. They don't buck around. I've completed combat ops 4 times if anyone wants to let me know we'll own everon
I've been watching the development of Reforger from the beginning, but just didn't feel right. Your video here really illustrates how far its come, the sound mod is fantastic. This game "mode" is really the main thing that was holding me back since about all I play Arma 3 is Antistasi, OVerthrow or similar. I like the guerilla war tactics style of playing. I'm hoping you can bring AI squad along. In ARMA 3 I always found enemy AI to be too powerful, often detecting and hitting you through trees and cover while you still were far away and unable to see the enemy. Great demo playing and I wish I had gotten the game a week ago when it was on sale... but your video has sold me on this. :)
As someone who bought reforger day 1, it's way more playable now, if you like Arma 3 at all I think you'll enjoy reforger now!
ukraine server is really good lots of good guns and optics and vehicles and the vietnam server can be fun too
Agreed, played the shit outta 3, this is on par now, not content wise but certainly when it comes to quality of life like motor functions, the jump and mantle feature for example. @@Ceraxy

Arma 3 has an AI setting for difficulty that you can raise and lower the AI from trainer to veteran and another with 2 sliders to adjust the amount of AI occurrence.
A vr version of this would be awesome .
We can only pray Arma 4 has vr. If it does it might be the only thing I play lol

I’m on the Xbox. Owned this game for 6 months keeping an eye on the progress. Tried it last week, it’s so much more intuitive now. Downloaded the N3croWolf chernurus map and started playing combat ops. Love it, hooked! Love spawning in with a helicopter and 2 humvees, 1 with 50cal turret! If you’re a day z player and you’ve heard this game is unplayable? Believe me it’s not anymore, it’s becoming amazing! Seriously you will feel like a new man or woman❤
The intel one is broken for me cause the red mark doesn't show up on my map so I can't ever finish this mode even when I restart it

It is really cool to have this mode but you can't save your game and no update to do so as far as I know since its been out its really frustrating 😢

im so so so glad I was not the only one STRUGGLING with this mission... seeing you get lost and get killed like I did made me just laugh and wanting to get back into the game... nice vid

Are you playing with graphics mods? It looks super nice.
If you launch this mode as a LAN game you can use the zeus mode to drop a friendly squad or two.
Hopefully this mode gets more fleshed out when they add the ability to command a squad and the AI pass their driving test.

I feel like this was made harder by not using tactics and approaching it like a game and not a simulator.
Stay in concealment, stay off roads and open places, use shadows, attack dawn/dusk/night and be stealthy.
I like having fun by myself too
this makes me think of Single Player Tarkov for some reason. You ever think about trying that out? It seems like it takes some setting up but I've been curious myself.

How do you know where you are on the map?
Is there an indication showing your position, or do you actually have to guess?
Easiest to find a town and then see the name - then look at the map to orient

3:01 I had the exact same thing happen to me when I first tried the resistance ops, my car died and as soon as I got out to return fire I got headshot 😂💀
you cant save it and come back later. everytime you save and exit the scenario restarts when you hit "continiue"

@@matka5130 How? Mine is up to date but I can't save my progress. When I come back it's a full restart for me :( so sad, played for an hour and all my progress was back to zero.

UPDATE: I got the game and have put in 13+ hours (I realize it is not much... yet). I've played only the Combat OPS and also some of the Overthrow mod scenario. In both cases I find the enemy AI waaaaaay too deadly and accurate. I've spawned at that same house you did only to be immediately shot at without any real way to know where the enemy is shooting from - as there are no markers on the map (for realism) and really hard to see gun flashes.
At 300+ meters the enemy soldiers are tiny, and takes a very long time to spot. Without Binocs or sniper scope it's nearly impossible to tell. And even with these you will not have 100% knowledge of where the enemy is. The sounds of shots seem to just come over the speakers and there isn't any real sense of acoustics to tell if the shots are from the front, sides or rear. This is especially daunting - and frustrating - if you decide to cross a wooded area where the trees, foliage and rocks create even more obscured enemies, while they can seemingly pinpoint you at under 200 meters.
Now... the AI seems to do a better chance to flank you, but while I was busy spotting and shooting enemy soldiers at 300 meters with minimal accuracy, one enemy soldier outflanked me on the right and got within 25 meters. I was summarily killed.
Without friendly AI soldiers to send as a point man or place on flanks, you can easily get killed by a handful of enemy soldiers.
My last big beef on this is that the sounds of foot steps is nearly missing in the game. And not just mine, but the enemy. The Enemy AI will run or move to outflank you in a wooded area and yet they will be as quiet as a mouse. The confusing (nay I say "bad") sound acoustics of this ambiance as well as the gun shots really makes it hard to orient your self in a gun fight. And even if you decide to jump for cover behind the rock, the enemy has already outflanked you and it will not make any difference.
I really love the graphics of the game and the idea of this combat ops, no doubt based on the great Antistasi mod for ARMA 3 which has come to define the BEST SP/MP game mode for guerilla tactics, BUT that's about where the comparison ends. The game still feels rough around the edges. The game scenario give you no markings on the map (thumbs up for realism) but makes getting around a chore, the AI is super strong and there is no way to dial down the AI or the difficulty setting, and the lack of better spacial sounds makes it hard to tell where you are getting shot from.
Lastly, if your vehicle runs out of gas and you did not prepare a base, etc. you will soon find yourself running back to camp and possibly running out of daylight. At which point there is no way to set the game to "sleep" for 8 hours, so you are left waiting a very long time for daylight, while the AI does not sleep and can seemingly spot you. I found a wooded area and just laid there. I could not find a way to sleep... maybe it is a setting back at camp. Swimming is pretty much non-existent as well as I tried - and failed - to swim across a bay instead of running around it. There are few vehicles in towns to steal, if you hit a tree or two they break down, if you get out and did not properly park expect them to roll away (and likely crash).
In spite of the game's shortcomings as far as I could find... it is a huge step from ARMA 3 and is going in the right direction. I hope it improves and evolves into the ARMA 4 that we've waited for a long time.
There is an AI mod for this too.

Okay this game mode sounds pretty cool, but I'm out of the loop on this game, so I have to questions. As I understand it, there's no tanks, right? Are there mods that add tanks (to this single player game mode)? For this game mode in particular; what's the AI situation? Can you have AI follow you and command attacks? Can the AI drive vehicles?

i7 8700k 3070 avg about 65-80, min ~35 and only rarely I get above 100. Default high settings on 1440p

Is this game worth grabbing for $40? It looks good but also kind of empty
I don't think it's worth grabbing for 40 dollars. It was on sale last week at almost half the price (and they were asking too much already)... If you're an Arma veteran you will find this super empty like you said.
However it's a fun "Arma 3 mod" (that's how I like to call it) and the servers are quite active with both PC and console players. I'd recommend you to get Arma 3 instead or wait for a sale to get Reforger since only with the last update it's starting to become more playable. I repeat, so far it feels like an Arma 3 mod with slightly better graphics.
@@crasheba1533If you're a single player, I would say wait until they add ai command. It's difficult fighting enemies solo.

I can't wait for the "Optimization" gift. The game shows 60 FPS but it feels like 30 for some weird reason. Running A3 at 140 FPS by the way...

Want dynamic war mod from arma 3 but improved a bit so bad. Why can’t we control a team like in 3?
It would be nice if you actually could utilize civilian vehicles as disguises. ArmA 2 and 3 had the same issue. Playing as a guerilla it was pretty much useless to use civilian vehicles to get around. And the issue is that the vehicle gets tagged as an "OPFOR"-vehicle to whatever faction you're playing against. I really hope they find a way around this soon. It's been an issue for years. Unless using mods.

People should run more of these servers Co-op most are private and don't run very well. (This comment is a petition to get ourselves more of these servers modded or unmodded up!
Have you tried to play on public servers? First mission is OK as you can pick up your gear from DZ, but this one - guns are scarce, therefore there are just too many idiots who grief or shoot you if you pick up the weapon they want. Finding good coop players to play with is very hard in public servers. On average i find such players once a week

i3 10gen, 16gb ram, rtx2060 6gm, ssd... it runs okaish, medium settings, 1080p. The game is not very well optimized yet. I think you will be able to get more frames in the future.

It's a great game mode but holy smokes why can't we save our progress!...still! I don't bother playing it for that reason only.
Weird oversight actually. Didn't realize it until I went back in to try and get BRoll and the same mission was incomplete
Yeah, that's a big dealbreaker for me. This game mode needs more quality-of-life enhancements, otherwise it's a fantastic addition that I will enjoy playing once it's fixed.

A lot of reasons - first this is low priority feature as Reforger is just a test platform for arma 4. Not all features will be available here -i.e. no tanks. Second, this is coop that you can play yourself. Coop lasts on avg 1-2 hours with 4-6 people, hence no point of saving. And lastly, this is also due to the way arma engine and its garbage collection works. Its hard to save state as this would need to override garbage collection for entire map
@@theobserver_ I understand the technical challenges but being able to save progress is a fundamental basic, especially for single-player and co-op modes that can last hours. While Reforger is a test platform, having this fundamental feature is a must. The latest patch notes mentioned a fix, but it still isn't working. Hopefully they can prioritize resolving the saving/garbage collection issues soon

HEy justa nitpick. The "Something, something in Russion" was not Russian language but Czech language. It was the resistance coms in czech. But I understand it is hard to recognize for not native speaker :).

There's no way to choose a different level of difficulty, the AI is too aggressive and overwhelming for a solo player and you can't even save a game. I tried every scenario in Reforger and must say they're all for MULTIPLAYER ONLY, a solo player (average, not an overskilled supergamer) can't handle these insane enemies. There are different levels of difficulty in the game, you can see that by using the Reforger Tools, but BI won't let us choose for what ever reason. Reforger is only half way finished, but as it's now: NOT RECOMMENDED FOR SOLO PLAYERS !

@@fasalfasal-iw1og I just tested it, I completed one of the first aleatory missions. Quit the game, went back in... the other missions I didn't complete (but the one did) still remain but everything else is restarted. The hideouts, the map markers, the random events, the weapons you lost... everything but your mission progress is back to the beginning, so it feels like starting a fresh new game. So the only thing "saved" is the mission's template which is pointless. It's not like in Arma 3 where you start just where you left, same spot.

The first time I did 4 out of 5 tasks because there was a bug in the "Support the attack" one where you're supposed to storm a soviet camp... I eliminated all the soviets there (alone) but that didn't end the task. On my second restart I could complete all the new tasks given (they're a tiny bit randomized each time, they lack variety tho) and make my way to the exfil. It's totally possible if you take the "Spec Ops" approach (as the mission's name suggest) to complete it. You start the mission around 6 PM (in-game) so I did all the tasks during night time (while heavy raining) and it took me about 2-3 hours real time, I didn't pay attention because I was having fun, the atmosphere was so good and it feels more alive than Arma 3, maaaan... the surround effects, ambient sound and the lighting

If you say so, "TactiGamer." In my humble opinion, that's the worst part of ARMA right behind the ever-shitty performance, the clunky movement, and the cheaty 3rd person mode.
I used to think the same as you until someone explained it to me. The "zoom" is actually a more realistic (at scale) representation of what your viewpoint would be (and the size of objects and people you see) if you were actually standing in your character's shoes. The only reason games use the normal "unzoomed" view is because we don't have screens that simulate your wider view and peripheral vision. Therefore, the game has to "zoom out" and make everything smaller in order to have a wide-enough view to see objects/people in your peripheral view. Otherwise, we'd see things closer to the size in the "zoomed" vision in Arma. The "zoom" allows you to engage targets at a farther, more realistic range, because they appear at a more realistic (bigger) size.
Zoom in function is amazing in arma. If anything it’s a QOL thing. Also reforager is so much less clunky and jank. The performance is shit yes.
a realistic fov to represent proper scale of objects on a 21-24inch generic 1080p monitor would be around 25 degrees, so unless you want to play through tunnel vision mode, i think the zoom is a good feature
I like pretty much everything in this game, because I have previously played arma 2. Controls are simplified, zoom - like other guy explained - qol as you cannot fit resolution your eye sees to a monitor and even if you could - your gpu would explode trying to render that sweet 1fps. The only things i do wish they would change are: add option to disable teleportation, 3rd person, add ability to siphon fuel and finally introduce actual bullets that you can load in mags the way you want. I.e. tracers, mixed, ap and etc (tarkov has this and thus is amazing feature)
This mode is so weak. Marketed as an emmersive, experience akin to Antistasi. In reality, it's just combat ops with bad weapons, bad vehicles, and civ clothing. All they had to do was make the player count higher, add a civilian faction that you play as and is friendly towards enemy NPCs until shots fired or you turn undercover off.
As an Xbox player who enjoys single-player experiences, this mode is deeply disappointing, rough around the edges, and in my opinion, if the mode stays this way, it's going to stay in the forgotten modes list of Arma Reforger

Arma reforger is arma 4…. If anyone remembers a3 released as a bare bones alpha that was updated to its current state over years…. So was dayz….. it’s their business model to keep up hype and keep players Interested over a decade or longer….. and we’re suckers that give them exactly that
