I have been growing wasabi for a number of years in soil and have found they are reasonably tough except for a few things. They absolutely hate direct sunlight, even for half an hour. They will tolerate heat but not sunlight. Keep moist (not sodden) and fertilize occassionally. A big thing to watch out for is powdery mildew at the end of summer, beginning of autumn, which can kill them.
It's funny that you use trichoderma. As a mushroomgrower I can say that tricho is the most common and devastating contamination you can have. Basically you can throw away every bag of mushroom spawn. In worst cases you have to sterilize your whole operation. For plants it (as you show) can be very helpful sometimes even necessary (coffee plants for example). Great video clicked the subscribed button right away.
I started into cultivating plants because I had a massive outbreak. I was so upset that I figured I'd turn them into endentured servants to my plants. As I see it, they owe me. This falls cannabis harvest brought to me by "the green bastards."
Yasssss thank you! The first thing I thought of when I saw your tutorial of the wicking tube was: “hmm I wonder if you could do wasabi in that” I’ve watched every hydroponic video on wasabi on TH-cam, you’re the first fresh face in YEARS. Please keep us updated!
Excellent show, I’m really enjoying the Green House growing. Please recommend your local Hydroponic stores, the good ones recommend your channel. They supply Great White, Hydro Hallows ( Feeder Rings ) etc etc and they always give great FREE Hydroponic advice. I’d recommend NQ Hydroponics if living in North Queensland, Townsville or Cairns. 🍻
They essentially grow hydroponically in nature haha, like they grow in pebbles and gravel in streams with no soil usually, so i'd say they should do okay hydro!
Whatever happened to the Wasabi, Hoocho? Haven't seen it in an update for ages. I put some in a wicking tub but its barely alive due to some kind of little green caterpillar attack.
Mine grow in pots. No hydroponics required. It's just a very slow growing plant (takes a year to get anything worth using) and the germination rate can be iffy. You can germinate via seeds or rhizomes.
Awesome i did 3 in Western Sydney aquaponics outside with 2 layers of 50% shade cloth from bunnings but they got smashed by aphids, i ended up buying lady bugs which worked absolutely perfectly for a month. Water temps upto 26celcius. I ended up moving them into a fishtank in my shed just to save them because they were really hard to find, took me 18 months of checking online every month or so. They have come back enough to flower and are going ok. I either have nutrient burn or light burn on the tips of my big leaves, moved light further away from the tank and have repotted because they were also waterlogged due to a year in the same pot their roots clogged up the holes in my pots, so they flowered despite being under water 24/7with the battery going flat at about 0200 and being charged enough to restart by 0900, not even flowing water for 5 hours/ night. Its my side project atm, i thought they would thrive in aquaponics and didnt have a backup plan so am learning as i go by whatever means necessary, usb pump and spare fishtank saved them so far. I need a PAR light meter and to learn more about hydroponic nutes. But i might steer them back into aquaponics and try sandponics because it solves a couple aquaponics issues i have too
Hey Hooch. Love your thought process and the scientific approach Bro. Sure, the light for the is good now… will the temps in summer have an impact? All good. I gotta say… Please don’t overthink things. I guess a little enhancement for the hydroponic babies is OK. Tricking nature is one thing, but, changing nature is another. Much love bro. Keep the good work up!
Really interested to see if you can get it to grow into a wasabi edible rhizome using the hydroponics technique, I want to implement a true high pressure aeroponics.
Man, so jealous. I'd been thinking about trying to grow wasabi for quite a long time now. With the restrictions on light level and temperature would this maybe be a great candidate for indoor hydroponics? Very excited to see your results though.
loving it. made me start my own wasabi experiment. finished setting up a 4 wasabi plant indoor basement setup just yesterday. how's the 2 minutes every 2 hours watering schedule working out for you? I went with 5 min every 2h since I got fewer nozzles on my improvised halos.
Very interesting. My wife (Japanese - we are both living around Tokyo) told me that wasabi needed a very pure water and it was fairly hard to grow indeed. Looking forward for your results!
Looks interesting, but... even though you mentioned it a couple of times, you are going against how they would grow in the wild. Wasabi grows in the center of flowing mountain streams, so the roots are designed to be constantly flooded upto an inch (25mm) above the soil level. If you elevated your NFT gutters so they flowed into and across the growbed to the drain, this would emulate their natural environment better. I know you tagged an update timelapse on a newer video, but figured this would be the better place to comment on it.
@@DemoniWaari It's obviously not dead yet - but give it time. I'd like to be more optimistic but he is in Queensland and the summers there can be baking hot. Wasabi is typically grown in much milder climates.

You had me at Wasabi. So you said this is not flood and drain, but I didn't catch what you called it. Excellent! Thanks!
It’s a Wilma system, goes by different names.
Wilma! She sounds like a nice lady to grow your Wasabi. 🤣

I have eight acres of trees and have been thinking about digging a "stream" to grow wasabi. I really hope this works out.
I ♥️ wasabi. Yum!
Also have in mind that they prefer around 4-15 C temp for at least 18 months....
Hit that great white straight on the roots
Love the videos man watch them all da time Mad respect
Loving the frequency of the videos lately! Looking forward to seeing how this turns out

good to see you happy my boi howdy greetings from Tx!
Thank you for all the explanations and the time you take to give them to us.
How do you plan on cooling the system in the summer? Will you try to turn the shading cage into some sort of evaporative cooling tower?
Very interested in the progress of the wasabi plants!
My go to hydro channel. Best of fortune with the wasabi. Keen to see your results👍🏼

They grow anywhere. Mine grow in pots. No hydroponics required.
Looking forward to seeing how you go with the wasabi. I have tried a couple of times in soil with no success. Keep the videos coming 👍🏻
can you please post some results. was it worth it. did it work???? thanks.f
This is exciting. Nice video. I hope for huge success cause you could make some good money off these

Can you tell us where we can buy the wasabi seedlings? Thanks
Bunnings sell them :) I'm guessing that's where he got his. I got mine from there
Whats the water temp of the nutrient going to be mid summer? Going to need more than 1000L to deal with temp fluctuations unless using a chiller....
It’s a 700L res, ive been successful in keeping it around 20° in summer, hopefully that is enough.
Can't beat the nasal burn. I hope you have great success, looking forward to the updates.
Awesome !! Can't wait to see your wasabi wince !
Fantastic! I’m so happy to see someone seriously pushing the gardening envelope with TRUE wasabi! I’m seriously ROOTING for you🌟

I've never seen the terra cota s ..aggregate in quantity in the US?
Have you got an update on the wasabi??

Hey! What is the substrate you used for Wasabi? And do you think it is possible to grow wasabi using aeroponic system?
The end is funny 😂
I wish you would show the temperature after moving to the water to cool the plants. That’s a deal breaker for my area.
Nice Setup! Continuing to follow your Channel.👩🏾🌾👨🏾🌾🏡🌱🌱🍆🍆

Me was thinking the same, just for the sake of taste the fresh wasabi.
Hope this system will work. Looks great.
First!!! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Great vid man, did you get your wasabi plants from flower power?
How are they doing 1 year later?

Working really well
Any updates?
How did this turn out??
Great white rocks as does Recharge.👍
Cool...
I'm looking forward to seeing how the plants will do.
But, I'm afraid the roots will rot. I hope I'll be wrong. 👍

Traduzione in italiano per cortesia grazie 🙏❤
Hello ec? Y ph? 😘
Wasabi needs relatively higher humidity than veg, even higher than strawberry, 65-70% roughly.
Looks interesting, but... even though you mentioned it a couple of times, you are going against how they would grow in the wild. Eu ainda não conheço wassabi
your estimate of shade cloth percentage is flawed. You are measuring inside a structure with 50% shade cloth walls and a clear roof
How'd this turn out?
Still going!
Anybody here where I can buy wasabi seeds overseas/asia.
I want to grow it too~
i want to make it
Now do fruiting bananas please 🙏
No bs just knowledge. Aussie as.
Love you Hoocho but that Wasabi is fucking dead. Just doesn’t know it yet.
Probably hahaha!
I’ve got more ordered, with indoor systems in mind.
Is Wasabi hard to grow then or why is it dead?
@@DemoniWaari It's obviously not dead yet - but give it time. I'd like to be more optimistic but he is in Queensland and the summers there can be baking hot. Wasabi is typically grown in much milder climates.
Algorithm bump.
Wasaaaaaaaaaabi
Where can i get some wassabi plants 🪴 🤔
Hi. What your climate zone?
