    You should use a crab gauge instead of that fish board. Also check to see if those crab are soft-shell. There are a lot of short and soft-shell down there at Westport.
    Nut it looks like dinner for two. Two thumbs up. 👍👍

      Yeah the fish checker guy gave me one since i had that undersized one. Its pretty tough to measure them without one. I was just lucky he told me and not an officer so i didnt get a ticket.

    That was something new! I never thought you could target crabs using traps with regular fishing rods haha. So nice of the guard to give you the measure instead of the fine. Now that I think of it I'm not sure if I've ever had crab before

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are delicious. But they're lots of work to eat and that puts lots of people off. You can actually catch them with regular bait and hooks. They will hold in until they break the water surface if you keep slow constant tension on them.

    When you are using fish for bait, use only fresh caught or bought fish or chicken. It is harder for the crabs to take it apart and takes longer fit them to eat and mire time in the trap, you save on bait too.
    Old frozen fish parts and carcases breaks apart in the water when thawed and crabs just pull it apart too easily.
    Also it's better to use chicken because seals, sharks and other fish won't touch it

      They have to be 6” to keep. It’s really effective to get out further than you can throw a crab ring.

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure. It's a custom carp rod so it doesn't have a lure weight (they use test curve, this was 3.5). It can handle a lot of weight because I cast 8 oz lures with a pound of bait on there. There were some chinese guys out there with a 7' pole that was pretty limber I'd guess medium heavy.

      @@PeelingLine crab gear is considered pots and rings by WDFW standard. Been fishing and crabbing WA for 25+ years and it's always been like that. A warden will give you a ticket for 2 poles with snares or castable traps because by law rods are considered fishing no matter what's connected to them. Grew up fishing Westport and Tokeland and even crabbing it's always been 1 rod and reel.

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have seen guys get their crab gear taken and no ticket, I've also seen people get a warning and keep their gear and I've seen people arrested there. I think it all depends on the officer and if you've been caught before.
      I messaged the dfw about the traps and this was their reply:
      Good afternoon,
      A unit of gear for crabbing is: one star trap, one ring et, one castable snare, or one pot. Two units of gear per person. So, two snares or traps is permissible.
      Have a good day.
      If you have questions about regulations email them at fishregs@dfw.wa.gov
