And sure enough, he burns through the bottom of his blade because coal makes it hard to see how hot that section of blade was getting.

    • @Tareltonlives
      @Tareltonlives 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And I'm pretty sure the regulations had men equipped with cutlassess since 1804. I want to say the Ottoman sailors used shorter versions of the saber in the navy; pictures show Oruc Reis and Barbarossa with pretty short curved blades pretty much identical to the classic cutlass (which came from European hunting knives) . The key point of boarding combat was to fight at close quarters, hence the use of musketoons, pistols and blunderbuss.

    I'm genuinely surprised these blades didn't snap on the bullet test.

      Apperantly it's rather easy for the blades to tank a bullet. I only know for sure that it's true for the edge and not the side/flat.

    Does Filipino soldiers use Cavalry Sabers back in ww2?

    • @kiefersison3004

      Ehron Nathan No, there was no standard horse-based regiment in the Philippines. There were small battalions who may have used cavalry, but the large majority of WW1 and 2 were fought in the trenches. Artillery, trench, and aeroplane warfare was the backbone of WW2. The introduction of tanks and other armoured vehicles rendered horses unnecessary.
      Besides, the Philippines didn’t have the open plains that Europe had. Most warfare here was guerrila-heavy. Oblique tactics and jungle operations are what made the Philippines unsuitable for cavalry charges, and therefore sabres, useless.
