    This is exactly what I was looking for. I have a Trek Dual Sport but I don’t do off road much anyway. Just wanted the option to do so. After a while, I wanted to be a bit faster and a more smoother ride. Now I converted it to a road bike, but I didn’t have to go as in depth as you. The wheels were already TLR rims and I simply changed the tires and tubes because I not tubeless yet. Also added bar ends . It’s made a huge difference.

    You can also keep the 29 wheels and put on road tyres, yes they exist. And I would add drops because to me they are way more comfortable than mtb straight handlebars due to the multiple positions grip.

  • @alvinnieves590

    Thats a great conversion. What I do with mine is simply swap the wheels. I have the same wheelset, but the difference is that one has my trail/XC tires and the other set has the stock worn XC tires, which I use for road/gravel biking. I plan on getting a set of slick tires for my bike, so it will look like a monster road bike, but I am ok with it :)

    Thanks for sharing, I can 100 percent see where your coming from, having both a Marin Mount Vision Full sus Mountain Bike, and a Trek Madone road bike (for which I had a proper bike fit done) , I always found myself grabbing the Marin , it just felt “right” , the Madone is a good bike - however it just doesn’t have that fun factor! Also I find myself constantly fidgeting on longer rides. The Marin is also far more practical here in the UK on our horrendously potholed roads. I’m so glad to see someone else has the same views! I’m selling my Madone and building a hard tail with wheels like you’ve used, I will keep front Sus fork though, due to riding a lot at night & unforeseen potholes!

    This video is great! I stopped at "...pointless in the comment section...not capable...blah...blah..." I did the same thing to my Trek 6700 SLR and I am loving it! The only difference is I went with a carbon road fork, there was a noticeable difference in handling but no noticeable geometry change b/c the angle is still the same. As for people and there comments forget about it. This conversion is ACE for ppl who can't blow thousands on a road bike, my build started in Nov. I rode all winter upgrading parts as I went along. FINALLY the most expensive parts are on the way this month, I can't wait. Great video thanks for sharing!

    I had a 2014 gt karakoram and it got stolen. I loved the way it fit so much that I bought the current year which was a 2016. 2 months later I managed to see someone riding my previous bike and got it back. I decided to get some skinnier tires which cost about $60 and enjoy it a ton. I do like having the front suspension with lockout for hopping curbs and the occasional offroading. I have tried to find a road bike that fit the same but I can't seem to get the same feeling. I would recommend a taller gear if possible as i find myself topping out on the flats with the skinny tires.

    You don't really need such wide handlebars for road. 500-600mm is more than enough. For more speed try trimming the handlebar shorter and lowering the stem. That will reduce your frontal area and drag.

      I think putting the drop bars wouldn't be that hard! Just have a set with brakes installed, with the calipers neatly tucked away while in storage, then swap the bars and brakes when you want! Interesting idea

      Mountain bikes have a longer reach than road bikes. Drop bars would be too long to use comfortably on a mountain bike unless you size down for your height

    • @jesuisFORTIO

      its almost 1kg lighter atleast, the carbon fork is much more rigid than the locked suspensionand and those carbon forks arent that expansive. is worth the change. I used to change from suspension to one of those when racing in less technical XC marathons, your legs will thank you after 4.5hours of race. your arms, neck and back in the other hand, not so much xD

    So cool! I have an old Scott MTB, not as nice as yours but i put it away to rest after a really nasty mud ride destroyed the shifters but lately i have been pumping road miles on my full-sus bike with the tires pressurized to burst level, so im doing the same thing with my old Scott instead of dumping 1 k on a road bike. Not using parts as nice as yours, not disc's but with skinny tires it will still fly. I love the dumb comments of "why do that" like money falls out of trees and must be spent the way the other drones do...."buy expensive stuff like i have, dont do different stuff, even if your as fast and having as much fun as me on my stupid-light thing, your still bad person" Great vid man, i like it!

    Why not drop down bars? I am wanting to convert a gravel bike to a road bike, but the store mechanic mentioned something about the forks being inherently different. There is a ratio of space that is off. The shape of the fork as well.

  • @brian.louis107
    @brian.louis107 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am planning on doing the same to my future 1x11 650b mtb for one reason only....I hate drop bars! I will essentially get a two-for-one deal, plus I am going rigid fork so no need to switch that out. I can just exchange mtb wheels for road wheels in seconds. I will purchase a second e*thirteen 9-46t cassette for the road wheels as well paired with a 36t chainring.

    Good work and excellent video. Have not you thought about just replacing the tires? so you kept the comfort and effectiveness (on some types of pavement) of the front suspension, and I knew the result because that's what I'm thinking of doing on my bike :D , but with less narrow tires.

      You only need parts for one bike instead of two. You ride in the same position for more muscle specialization vs a road bike. More braking power. Did you see that 180mm rotor? Geometry doesn't change between bikes.

    • @dartwadermovies
      @dartwadermovies 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Too much haslte with chaning it back and forth, the components that you need to buy to make it a road bike will cost quite a bit and lastly the geometry of the actuall bike will be just bad. You could eaisly get a used road bike for the price of those parts needed, if you are on a budget. That used bike will perform 100% better. Lastly, only a roadie would come up with a wild idea like this ?! No mountain biker would do such a silly thing.

    • @TheTinyCyclist
      @TheTinyCyclist  6 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      The parts in total cost me about $300, so they aren't too costly. Plus, the geometry isn't bad at all. Unless you think the geometry of your mountain is already bad? The geometry stays the same, and is quite comfortable! I also don't know of a $300-$500 11 speed carbon road bike.
