Jak 3 is one of the best games of all time and it still to this day holds a candle to modern open world game design it hasn't aged a day for me it keeps me playing just like a brand new game can.
Totally, even prepping for Ratchet and Clank I've had to invest in lots of stuff just to get a working copy on a console. I do love the accessibility of emulators for just playing things myself, but I've steered away from it for my videos just in case its frowned upon or something. You know, I bet if I put that question into google I'd probably get an answer pretty quickly...
It really does grind my gears when people treat Uncharted as Naughty Dog's first dip into the "modern era" of gaming when it has been a pretty fluid gradient of evolution that you can witness the changes in, through every single game they have produced. When I played the Uncharted games, they still felt very heavily like Jak games for me, I could see the inspiration in various places. I could see the link, the bones, the previous knowledge that had brought us to this place. Same for The Last of Us. I can see thw influences from Uncharted in there, and influences from the Jak games. Jak II was their first jump into grimdark storytelling, and an experimental era for game design for them. And by the time we get to Jak X, the plot is about Jak's past mistakes coming back to bite him and getting involved in a gang war. It's just amazing how much this series evolved from the first one, through to Jak X. It's like the missing evolutionary link between Crash and Uncharted that everyone likes to brush over or simply not bring up at all when talking about Naughty Dog's game history and accomplishments.
Totally, I get that Uncharted was the entry point for a lot of people, but I think with most studios you look at some of their big titles and more often then not there are always lessons learnt or things tested that you see again and again through other games. Even minor things, like Jak and Daxter is often credited as being one of the first games without loading screens, which is another technique used in Uncharted that was praised. I think the Jak franchise is one of the most interesting, self contained examples of evolution in a trilogy I have seen though, from 1 to 2 being so vastly different, and then 2 to 3 getting so much more refined in my opinion. Im glad I'm playing through it now though, because I think without hindsight and the future franchises, this probably isn't a perspective I would have been able to see it from back in the early 2000's
Well, I would play a PS2 game in 2022. I love the Jak Trilogy. And it’s always fun to see someone explore the Jak games. So I have been having fun with your videos.
Glad you’ve been enjoying the videos! Let me know if there are any other franchises you’d be interested in, hope you stick around for more now Jaks done 🤞
For me Jak 3 came so close to being the best in the series but it felt like half of the game was spent driving vehicles, granted they were fun in the beginning but it got stale after a while. In my opinion I think the first one is the best in the series 1️⃣
Great video! And i really like the pacing in your videos. It can get tiring sometimes when people ramble about the same things for about an hour but you get the message across cleanly in about 5-8 minutes every time while also having some nice bits of humor inbetween. Hopefully your channel continues to grow in the future, wish you luck :) Also just wondering if Jak would get remade what are the top things you would change about it ?
Thank you so much Jansify, that’s great feedback! I think Insomniacs latest ratchet games are a good blueprint to follow. It’s less about changing and refining, but with current gen tech + naughty dogs experience I think they’d nail it. If there was one thing to change, I would say either populate the open world with more varied gameplay or activities or make the levels more linear like a ratchet and clank. Sometimes it feels like it can have a foot in both spaces so would love to see what it would be if they committed to one or the other!
As good as Jak 2 and 3 were they are definitely a product of his era with his zero checkpoints and his poor controls. Jak & Daxter 1 is the best of all by a long shot in my opinion.
Jak 3, best mix of jak and dax and jak 2, always love coming back to this one, though always have a problem in like 2 parts, one of the desert escorts missions and that dax man minigame
I agree, it’s a shame it stopped here because it definitely found its groove imo. Broooooooo the dax man mini game was brutal, I think I have about 40 minutes of footage just trying to get past that lol
@@HowGoodGames well, they technically made jak 4, the lost frontier, but it both feels the same yet different, and also jak x combat racing which to me was more fun then lost frontier but more repetitive, would recommend to give them both a try if/when you got time
@@kaoticchris1249 I thought about doing lost frontier, but saw it was developed by another studio since naughty dog moved on to uncharted. With that said, definitely might be worth circling back to at some point!

First of all, can’t believe I’m talking to THE Jak, I’m honoured. Second of all; I agree, I wasn’t the biggest Jak 2 fan with how I played it, but Jak 3 improved on every area imo. Yeah, is pretty much underrated these days... i dont hate the difficult on Jak 2 but sometimes there was some unfair difficult spikes and the combat was a bit repetitive. I already said it in the video but imo this game improves on everything that introduced in 2 and really balanced everything to make it way more enjoyable. I also thought the desert was fun, the different vehicles actually felt really good to me. My wife did get sick of every time I was driving in the desert me pointing at the screen and saying 'witness me' and giving her the high eyebrows though.
You should check out Daxter! It's different, but enjoyable. I loved the writing in it and it fills the gap between the 2 years where Daxter was looking for Jak. There are a lot of pop culture references in Daxter that were a load of fun (good movie references of the time that make for exciting gameplay and great comedy).
I second this. Daxter is a prequel that definitely deserves its place among its original franchise. The writing, humor, raunchiness and platforming are all there… you’d think that Naughty Dog developed that one too.
I can really see why you say this one is better than Jak 2. It does the things you critiqued in Jak 2 differently. For me, that's the reason why Jak 2 is much better but to each their own I guess. Anyway, coming from initially being annoyed by your commentary on Jak 2, I must say, I actually really like your channel. Especially for only having about 80 subs, the quality is amazing. Why would I play this in 2024? PSN premium for me is not really worth it but I have it so I'm trying to grind through as many classics I can over the next year before going back to PSN extra😅
Great question, no idea if it’s possible. I know you can use gba/psp, etc. emulators on phones, but no idea if there is a way to do it for PS2. I played all these through ps4
I didn't like Jak 3 when I was little bc I loved Jak 2 and it felt like more of the same with a small few changes. But in retrospect 3 is the one to play between Jak 2 and 3
That’s really interesting, playing both of them today I immediately thought 3 was a more polished version of 2 that I’ve had a lot of people come out and tell me it’s unbalanced. I think today though 3 holds up way better than 2 especially for new players
You got a sub from me. I don't agree that Jak III is the best game, as it's the one that leaves a sour taste in my mouth. The uncompleted bastard child of the series that, to this day, has me ready at any given moment to drop $500+ on a PS5 just to TASTE Jak IV. Jak II had a beginning, middle, and end. Introduced lore that made the entire universe of the game far more interesting and something that could be carried on for a long time. Timelines, multiverses, etc. To me, personally, it was a masterpiece of writing and world story telling. Going back to Samos's hut in the swamp, the jungles with the Oracle, progressing through the city with clearance cards, it all felt like it was building something great. And the let down of III where the series ends on... what's essentially a cliffhanger. "With all the adventures ahead, I could never leave you behind" WHERE'S THE NEXT ADVENTURE MANSLEY?
Thanks so much for the sub dude! Since I wasn’t so hot on Jak 2 myself (due more to the gameplay then the story) Jak 3 actually made me look back on Jak 2 way more favourably because of the changes in the world design. When I went into jungles on Jak 3 it took me ages to realise where I even was and that was cool as hell
All the other games naughty dog has produced has been 💩. Mediocre content, cliches throughout one of the series, and little to no creativity. Jak was the only good trilogy they made
Respect the opinion mate, but a hard disagree for me though. Crash was one of the OG platformers, Uncharted set a new precedent for combining cinematics, set pieces and voice acting to create an incredibly immersive story, and what TLOU lacks in an original world, it pushes so hard with an original character driven story that got people so attached to characters the got death threats over it. I’d cop the games not being for everyone, but think it’s a stretch to say all the other games they’ve produced have been shit.
Jak 3 is one of the best games of all time and it still to this day holds a candle to modern open world game design it hasn't aged a day for me it keeps me playing just like a brand new game can.

@@HowGoodGames yeah you can't hide if you put an EMU program in your title if it comes to anything legal.

Why your videos have colorblind filter on
Why would I play this in 2024?
PSN premium for me is not really worth it but I have it so I'm trying to grind through as many classics I can over the next year before going back to PSN extra😅
How can I download for ps2 emulator on andriod?
Great question, no idea if it’s possible. I know you can use gba/psp, etc. emulators on phones, but no idea if there is a way to do it for PS2. I played all these through ps4
I finshed this game mutple times
I think it's very hard to pick my favourite out of this and TPL, but I think after some time this is starting to edge in front
I've beaten the whole series
Controversial question then. Is lost legacy worth playing? I've heard it might not be the best...
It's up to you
I didn't like Jak 3 when I was little bc I loved Jak 2 and it felt like more of the same with a small few changes.
It never to late to a okay a game
Been playing ps2 games for the past few weeks 😂
"With all the adventures ahead, I could never leave you behind"
WHERE'S THE NEXT ADVENTURE MANSLEY?
Thanks so much for the sub dude! Since I wasn’t so hot on Jak 2 myself (due more to the gameplay then the story) Jak 3 actually made me look back on Jak 2 way more favourably because of the changes in the world design. When I went into jungles on Jak 3 it took me ages to realise where I even was and that was cool as hell
Jak 2 was soo bad
I tried to tell people Jak2 was garbage..
You did, I remember that!
Jak 1 - a classic. Jak 2 - A disappointment. Jak 3 - Good at everything, but great at nothing.
Good summation, I would agree
I personally think Jak 3 is great, but not as much as 1.
WHAT????JAK 2 A DISAPPOINTMENT????ARE YOU HIGH BRO R YOU GOOOOOOD???
