If I had to guess, the phantom zone was probably a broken form of an "entity cache" for unloaded chunks with any entity that shouldn't be deleted in unloaded areas (so anything with player data). Since you enter it with a horse or donkey or pig and then log out, you're likely stuck in a no-world state where technically you're bound to your original world, however your not technically "in" the world instance's list of entities so chunk loading, block interaction, etc doesn't work. It's amusing that players could get trapped in this void, however.

This seems similar to that boat glitch in 1.16 where you right click a boat super fast and if you do it right, you can go to different places and place ghost blocks but to everyone else you will still be in the boat.
I’m assuming it might work by throwing an ender pearl in unloaded chunks while not visible by players. Most likely by using elytrafly you could make it work

The player goes in to unloaded chunks. The donkey cant be stored in unloaded chunks, so it stays in loaded chunks. But the player is stil riding a donkey, so the donkey duplicates, if the player logs back in. The invisible stuff is caused by the server thinking you are riding the donkey or horse, but you can walk because the server doesnt know which donkey you are riding. I think its something like this
The information of the donkey is stored in two seperste places, in the tag 'RootVehicle'. When the donkey goes in to unloaded chunks, it duplicates. One donkey is there because the player is riding it. One donkey is there because the donkey can't go in to unloaded chunks, because it can't be saved when that happens. (The same is for a horse)
*The phantom zone is a backup map the game puts u in it when your entity can't process enough memory to load the recent chunks or keep up with ur entity speed.* *so the game decides to put u in a world where u wait until everything is fixed like in some servers where u wait in a world for your queue the u get spawned back in the playable version of the world* *it's not gone but the requirements are changed because lag reducing plugins mess with it, the laggier the server the more u can enter it.* *and the duping is due to the game thinking the recent entity u were riding is obsolete so it gives you another copy.* *so basically the phantom zone is the loading screen world of your actual world.*

The collision void is basically a parallel universe overworld where everyone and everything is dead, along with the world being completely invisible.

It could. There was an exploit called godmode based off of similar shenanigans that people tended to do with pigs in the nether to troll PvPers while being invisible and unable to take damage, though eventually it was patched. I'm pretty sure I saw a few videos of it being used to grief as well. In terms of destroying bases unnoticed, well that'd kinda be pointless. The best it could do is prevent base members from fighting back but at that point the base is compromised anyway - though iirc it was used to do this anyway a couple of times.

Was a kid's game then, and is one now. But the game is over a decade old and is enjoyable enough where older players still play it, and I find 2b2t to be remisent of an older time, a different minecraft, one that isn't riddled with 9 year olds, annoying updates with bees and stupid nether biomes, and one where you can play the game as it was meant to be played, and sometimes have it's limits pushed. Hacking and exploits don't have rules at it's base state, and on servers that allow it, are perfectly okay. So much for a kid's game lol.

Guys, this case was solved on 2b2t when some players built a ginourmus lagg machine. So it's possible to eliminate hitboxes if server machine is very overloaded.
Good memories, I remember that weird glitch. It literally made players ghosts, and there was even a way to make players get stuck in that zone, untied from the mob.

I got into the phantom zone once. I was looking for fossils when they first came out and the world started lagging. So I left the re joined the world and when I came back none of the mobs could hurt me and I couldn't load the chunks. So I left then re joined again and It was back to normal. I thought it was just lag tho.

It looked normal, except you couldn't load chunks. The donkey was outside of it unless someone ran it back through, and you couldn't interact with entities from the "real" world from the phantom zone.

i discovered this glitch on my own around a month ago on a private smp. Maybe it's not the same, but a similar one, but idk. I discovered that when you sit in a boat/minecart then log out and back in, you can move freely and place blocks behind the boat, but still in range of the player. You could also move, but other players don't see that. My hypothesys is that the server thinks you are still in the boat, but your client doesn't, and that's where the glitch comes from and why you can move freely, but without loading chunks: the server thinks you are in the boat, so it doesn't load the chunks for you.
