I wear an undershirt tucked in and a long, loose fitting cover garment. I tried the 4.2″ and it fits in the same holster albeit with the barrel protruding about an inch out the bottom, and actually carries easier because the longer barrel has more leverage against my leg. You get used to the weight after a while. The 2.75″ isn’t much heavier than a 1911, and in my opinion carries easier due to the round shape. going to get the same holster but for the 4.2″ and give that a try. Mr Hickok45, I envy your backyard shooting range! It's like going to the fair with every gun ever made and a seemingly endless supply of ammunition! Your venue is to shooters what Pebble Beach is to golfers or Daytona is to racing fans! Keep up the good work, sir!
I sleep with a six shot .357 Magnum (a 4" Rossi) next to me but eight is really interesting to see! I just don't know how I feel about the snub nose but I like the added capacity.
One advantage of the wheel gun is the multiple ways to reload whereas a automatic has only only one way it's rather difficult to load a single round in a auto
Years ago I owned a DE in .44 mag with 6" barrel. That one weighed 64 oz empty with the magazine removed. Carried as my back up when I was hunting in Idaho. By the end of the day I felt like I was carrying aroun a 50lb sack of feed. But it was an awesome shooter. My EDC now is a SA 1911 A1 that comes in at 41 oz fully loaded if I remember correctly.
Just bought one exactly like this used and I agree with wanting a longer barrel. Other compliant the hammer is really sharp, took an emory cloth to the knurling and smoothed it out a little took 2 minutes easy fix. Overall I like it though. Going to put reduced power spring in it to make double action pull nicer. Test fired it, strangely I can put 3 or 4 in a tight group then start getting fliers. I think it's the heavy trigger makes it harder to hold on target after a few rounds, and maybe the cheap ammo I was using. Trigger is pretty smooth from the factory, just a lot heavier than I'd like. Previous owner put some dings and scratches on it, but that's the way I like it, now I won't feel guilty if I scratch it or put a ding in it.
I plan on getting a double action, I already have a 357 Ruger Blackhawk single action new model I bought it back in 1978. I love going to the range and shooting it.
Thank you for a nice review as always. Nice gun, but I will not trade in my S&W mod 586 4" I have had for 33 years for it. It still shoot the x-ring into one ragged hole with .38 Special at 25 yards, and is still as tight as a new one. Cheers.
I love prefer the larger Rugers over the Larger S & W. Nothing wrong with the S&W but the Blackhawk RedHawks and Super Redhawks just fits my had perfectly and that's important especially in the hunting rounds 44 and 454. I think I would like that gun in a longer barrel.
You’re a great shooter. Yes. I remember when I first went to the gun range. Low and left is where I ended up. I even tried aiming high and right. Still went low and left. 😂 Rifle and shot gun was much easier for me.
Great shooting, and thanks for keeping the world safe from invading 2L bottles and pots. Personally prefer .357 Redhawk frame. Much better than GP100. You should have converted grips to Hogue or Pachmyer.
With a longer barrel this would make a great match revolver, and some Hogue grips like the GP100 Match Champion version. You don't have to be concerned about wearing it out.
hickok45: I have never seen, or heard of a revolver that fires pistol caliber bottleneck cartridges. ( 7.62 takarev & 357 sig come to mind!).....btw spitzer type bullets seem to not be used in revolvers as well!
S&W made the model 53, I believe. It was in .22 Remington Jet, a bottle neck cartridge. Epic failure. They discovered why no one did that before. Bottle necked rounds are apt to expand and drive themselves against the recoil shield, jamming the revolver.
procto genero the older black powder rounds worked with bottleneck case higher pressure smokeless powder rounds have a set back when fired locking a revolvers cylinder up this is why the 256win mag
218bee failed in revolvers sales there was a 357/44 wildcat that. used plastic collars on the cases neck to hold the bottleneck in the cylinder chambers to avoid the locking up problems
Could you please explain why you prefer a shorter barrel? I myself find it easier to shoot a longer barrel for accuracy. I don't know if easier is the correct word more like it requires less concentration and less breathing control. My very favorite revolvers are my 8in pythons. Thanks so much I have learnt a great deal from you.
I absolutely love my Redhawk in .44 magnum with a 7.5" barrel, so it only makes sense I should get one of these to go with it. Definitely the 5.5" model though. That short barrel is unsightly.
Gotta say I like this revolver. Hard to beat the reliability and round in this combo. That 357 gets the job done.

Greetings from Germany
Tim Gebhard I want to visit your country one day.
Scott Fagerberg yeah I went to Dresden and it's beautiful there
Guy from Tennessee thanks where are you from?
Tim Gebhard Tennessee!
Guy from Tennessee nice I went to Texas, Missouri and Illinois
Kruger the toughest wheeled gun period ! 200$ trigger work ur better than 99% of any other !
I sleep with a six shot .357 Magnum (a 4" Rossi) next to me but eight is really interesting to see! I just don't know how I feel about the snub nose but I like the added capacity.
They make this same model with the 5.5" barrel also 8 shots
very sweet 8 round revolver!
needs a pachmayer grip and 4-5 more inches on the barrel.
Taurus 66 did it.
@Azaziz Donasdogamatastos yes it will.
@Azaziz Donasdogamatastos all in moderation on any ammo should be fine because it is a magnum.
Every time he says “let’s smoke some pot I’m getting the bowl ready” and I’ve seen a lot of his videos 😂
I am in Việt Nam, I wish to do like you 👍
That looks like the perfect piece to take with me on the road, great truck gun . That's going to be my next acquisition
Oh yes I agree loosing our train of thought is easy, the more memories we collect they more often they jump in the way. Great video again, God bless.
hope they bring out a 6 inch or longer barrel for it!
I see 4.2" and 5.5" on Buds in the same 8 shot model
The most beautiful looking revolver ever existed
Those American Eagle JSPs are no joke. That's real-deal .357 Magnum ammo, and not crazy expensive.
They are not bad. I killed a 3 doe with them using my Dan Wesson .357.
For home defence or personal defence.
S&w, Ruger, Colt model wise
NEXT WEEK, 2.5 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATS...... BEEN A FAN OF YOURS A MILLION FANS AGO.
It's really funny sometimes hearing people try to compare 9mm to 357Mag.
I plan on getting a double action, I already have a 357 Ruger Blackhawk single action new model I bought it back in 1978. I love going to the range and shooting it.
excellent vid hickok45..I've learned alot from your channel..thank you!
Gracias
Hickok45 is the Santa Clause of the gun world and everyone of his vids is like Christmas, thank you Hickok45
Ruger makes it in 4.2 and 5.5 inch now!
I'm gonna buy the 5.5 when I get old enough, that'll be 5 years from now...
hopefully guns aren't totally banned by then. good luck.
@GYPSY KING FURY I'm with you there Gypsy.
@GYPSY KING FURY Ha, what foolishness I said back then
I've got 3 Ruger .357 magnums. All are fantastic guns. GP100, SP101, and LCR. You can't beat Ruger for a revolver.
Rick Foley b
Years later it’s still one of my dream guns im pissed the discontinued it when I was shopping for one
Damn, grampop's aim is on point
hickok45 you are the man!! always have and always will be Thee TH-cam Gun Video reviewer Legend!!!!!
You’re a great shooter.
Yes. I remember when I first went to the gun range. Low and left is where I ended up. I even tried aiming high and right. Still went low and left. 😂
Rifle and shot gun was much easier for me.
Bought this one today, sucker for ruger revolvers..this is close to a twin for my Alaskan...saw 8 shots...sold !!!
" I'm a 3 inch barrel freak!"- hickock45
I love Rugers all the way! No disrespect to any other manufacturer but Ruger makes a great revolver!
Great shooting, and thanks for keeping the world safe from invading 2L bottles and pots. Personally prefer .357 Redhawk frame. Much better than GP100. You should have converted grips to Hogue or Pachmyer.
Ordered one a couple days ago. Can't wait to take it to the range.
It's my favorite gun to shoot that I own. You'll have fun with it.
That revolver looks like it's pregnant
vandebilding pregnant with freedom
high capacity assault revolver
dustinebriated Spot on!
it gives birth to 8 rounds of freedom!
It's still pretty though even with the extra pounds
Amazing Job Hickok . You have sold me on this fire arm!!
With a longer barrel this would make a great match revolver, and some Hogue grips like the GP100 Match Champion version. You don't have to be concerned about wearing it out.
I got the sp101 4 inch. Love it. My security blanket for the woods
Beautiful wheel gun!
It also comes in 4.2 and 5.5 inch barrel. That would have to be a chest rig carry for me considering the weight.
hickok45: I have never seen, or heard of a revolver that fires pistol caliber bottleneck cartridges.
Bottle necked rounds are apt to expand and drive themselves against the recoil shield, jamming the revolver.
procto genero Not a pistol cartridge but smith had a 17 HMR revolver
.38-40 Winchester. Though meant for rifle and pistol use, so don't know if that counts.
procto genero
the older black powder rounds worked with bottleneck case
higher pressure smokeless powder rounds have a set back when fired locking a revolvers cylinder up this is why the 256win mag
218bee failed in revolvers sales there was a 357/44 wildcat that. used plastic collars on the cases neck to hold the bottleneck in the cylinder chambers to avoid the locking up problems
I never get bored watching your videos.

“I got water on the pot so it wont smoke very well”
Lmfao hate when that happens 😣
YAY! great review of the 8-shot Redhawk... As is his custom, Hickok45 delivers a thorough report on the firearm.
Thank you for reviewing this Redhawk! It is awesome!
Any chance of a review of the "new" Redhawk 5060 with the 5.5" barrel?
Yeah if they made it a little bit longer, it would be at the top of my wishlist for sure.
I absolutely love my Redhawk in .44 magnum with a 7.5" barrel, so it only makes sense I should get one of these to go with it. Definitely the 5.5" model though. That short barrel is unsightly.
