When I met him once, during a teabreak when he was the guest(main) performer, I happened to sit beside him, I casually mentioned, with respect and reverence, "dada, ye gaana, _thoo hai mera prem devatha.......... " He bluntly said, " No singing please. I was astonished. Such a good singer with such an ego? Later, I happened to be requested to join the dinner with him and so many other people who were part of organising the event. I was seated in a different table. People around me coaxed me to sing one of his best songs(hindi, Sur na saje kya gaaon mein....,. Which he didn't try on day, I did sing casually, nonchalantly. I sing fairly well. Most people applauded. He never bothered to look into my direction. Ignored it as though it was some noise. Singing, good or bad voice, doesn't matter. The ultimate goal for all of us is to grow together to a point of utter humility, which is the main ingredient of joy and happiness. Not pride. Pride also is valid, if accompanied by humility.
