I may have already said this. My next door neighbor when I was a kid (1960s) was a grumpy electronics whiz. He chased me off most of the time, but once in a while I was allowed to see his way amazing workshop. He had a 4 letter/number ham call. Old school even before old school
We went through a similar experience with relatives and Christmas in 1954 when we moved from Parma,Idaho to Reedsport,Oregon. We did it a couple of years and did it the last time in 1962.It was the same reason:the "rich" relatives versus the poor ones.We haven't celebrated Christmas since the early sixties.Frankly,I don't miss it.People were giving me old radios,TVs,phonographs and the like since I was a little kid. This goes back to the late 1958s.I've had many of the record players and radios you've shown on your vids.Keep it up.As I said before,I was into TV repair, but I gave it up on account of the "something for nothing crowd".I don't miss it.I just do radio repair for myself.
Hear, hear! Definitely know what you mean! Gifts should come from the heart, not necessarily the wallet. Thanks for what you do here on TH-cam; have loved old electronics all of my life and I'm glad to see them resurrected! Keep up the good work!
That's the one I had. I remember the VF painted inside the lid. We got it at Sears. Wow they were taking a lot of short cuts in build quality by that time. Audio quality and loudness weren't all that great either. A few years later I got an all plastic Realistic that wasn't much better but had separate Stereo speakers.
remember it is not what you give it's the thought that counts that's what i was taught, i love all your you tube videos you make me laugh in a good way, and i learned allot just by watching you i am new to repairing vintage phonographs and i repaired some of my 34 vintage record players i have, i never thought i would be able to do this but just by watching you i can now thanks to your videos, i hope you keep more coming, can't wait to see whats next.
My family and I exchange gifts on Christmas Eve. Nothing flashy, it's the thought that counts. But the most important thing was that we ALL were able to be together for Christmas, that's the most important of all.
Thank you! I fully agree with you about the gift giving. I remember my parents gave me a transister am radio. That made my Christmas. Well anyway, I hope you had a great Christmas and a happy new year! Stay warm my friend!
I want to wish you a very merry christmas and a very happy and healthy and prosperous new year and all the best always and glad to see you . all the best always and be well and hope to see more videos and I believe what you are saying christmas means caring and loving your fellow man and love from your heart and people are too materialistic these day and but I do agree with you and I have been down that road as well and you have the right idwa great video and you win some and lose some how did this get assembled it is amazing that this was built . all the best to you both
Hello there, Sorry to hear about your Christmas experiences; I think more people have similar attitudes than we might know. I came here from Todd Harrison’s channel to ask you a favor. My grandpa passed away and was a home course taught radio/ electronics repair man. I have a large box of new in box tubes that he had; I want to send it to you so that they can be put to good use and not go to the trash. If you can let me know where to send them I will get them out today! I hope you can use them. Regards, Garret Carson
I AGREE with you, radiotvphononut when it comes to Christmas! You share a LOT of values near & dear to my heart & seem llike a good guy with good American values! As far as that Vanity Fare phono, Junk, Junk, Junk! I wouldn't have fixed it, either! Six people so far must own a Vanity fair as they voted this video down!
Thanks for all your videos Merry christmas ,someday I hope you will do a mistake videos of mistakes you have made,so we can0learn from you,I just made a mistake on a radio I took apart I was cleaning a volume knob the way you have shown us that went great ,then one of the coils came unsoldered,so I fix that ,then those tiny wires for the antenna came ,I had no Idea where it went the schematic was the size of a stamp that came with it.I put it to ground it work,my mistake was I touch the power cord and it blue the wire off ,I had that resolder, dam thing still works ,and all I wanted to fix was a,scratchie pot.8 hours of work.
I enjoy Christmas as well, but agree the commercialization and fear of being one upped gets bad. The only gift giving I do now is a white elephant exchange with other members of our church's home group. We have a lot of fun exchanging our cast offs. Is this one branded after the Vanity Fair women's clothing line?
I like old radios and record players, you are doing everything just fine, I think it is just ridiculous when people have a Beatles 45 of I want to hold your hand.... AND THEY WANT $175
Hi RTPN,I love your videos. I have a GE Musaphonic Model T-210A (1959 or 60?) that has bad filter caps. It used to sound awesome but now a pretty bad hum. The problem is I have no schematic for it. I do know that the Cardboard wax covered can is a dual section there are three tabs (A = Common ground. B, and C are values that I cannot read as the wax was all bubbled so not sure what the values are) I want to just cut the can out and replace it with Electrolytic caps. the other two wax paper caps are also unreadable but I bet I can scrape them down and get those values if they need replacing. I can send you pics if you are interested.
i am sorry that you had that kind of experience I agree that christmas is too commercial and there is too much competition and everyone is too gimme gimme gimme and is that all atitude and it really is sad and what ever happened to the love what you get and be grateful for whatever you get everyone is so meterialistic and self centered and with people like that I call them toxic people and do not deserve the time of day all the best to you for the future I appreciate your channel and all the help and ideas you give all the best always
I grew up poor, so I only got one “good” gift a year. Everything else was from the dollar store! I got my kids hooked on the thrift store instead of Amazon.
Material Day is no fun when you have no money to snob with the rich and exchange luxury items they don't care about because they could have just bought them themselves if they wanted to. I've done the Dollar Store Christmas bit since we are poor too. My middle brother that drives does his Christmas with his richer wife's family so he doesn't do anything with us "trash" anymore. After our mother and father died, we just have no interest it the gift exchange thing anymore. We are just trying to survive with what we've got, and we really aren't doing too bad. I'm at least content, and I'm grateful for that. We are doing better than many other people out there. I wouldn't mind having better access to dental care, but who knows what the future will bring. Just one day at a time.
I don't get much on christmas Either but ok by me,.. but i get older tube/CRT tvs from people that don't want them all the time, they all work great, now if i can find some one that needs a few working sets I can get them a good home, they all play great can be used with older game systems ETC and VCR's and the like, I can trade TVs for radios or even Games and Systems as i have plenty here, Wish i knew some one close by that would like the sets, as i don't wanna waste a good TV for nothing. plus they can play a long time. longer than the new flat screens do any how, but the sets all are 13 inch tvs, but play great.
Merry Christmas, Brian! I agree, not worth the effort on that one. I wouldn't be surprised if the output transistor shorted and took the speaker with it
That’s sad! Why not use it as a brief case to store other things like pencils, art supplies, etc. I did that last year when I parted out my Imperial kiddie record player that they gave me, and becomes a storage case. BTW, I hate security screws. They do suck! Fisher-Price did the same problem as well. I hate when companies like Vanity Fair, Imperial, De-Jay, and Fisher-Price made these kinds of disposable kiddie record players.
I understand you 💯% people are so greedy. Nobody owes anyone anything for Christmas. You give because you want to. Not because you have a gun to your head. I don't have use for ungrateful people. BTW, Happy belated holidays.
Yes that's how I was raised too but you have to consider that some people were not raised the same way that we were and some people think that they are better than others and some people are just spoiled by other people and some.people are just ignorant so just be the best you that you can be and I wish you and yours best wishes
Christmas is about our savior Happy Bithday Jesus your right, you and I were raised the same way Bryan when someone gave you something you showed your appreciation today Christmas is blowing out of the proportion but it's very sad

So true, heck my dad doesn’t mind I get him razor blades, it’s something he uses anyways so , it’s a practical gift,
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, wishing you the best!!
Merry Christmas Brian! Glad to see some people still understand what the holidays should be about. Especially helping others in need.
Hear, hear! Definitely know what you mean! Gifts should come from the heart, not necessarily the wallet. Thanks for what you do here on TH-cam; have loved old electronics all of my life and I'm glad to see them resurrected! Keep up the good work!

This is why I'm never going to waste my money on one of these types of record players.

Can you imagine what would happen to society if there was a $5.00 or $10.00 limit on gifts? Might be interesting.
