I live ina colder climate. Should i put them in wet peat moss over winter inside my porch cabinet? So they go through freezing cold winter? Or is it not ok to leave them in freezing temp?
I just tossed some seeds in a pot of soil and a few came up, and finally only one is viable. I wonder if the refrigeration increases the viability? But just to say that if a person is OK with one or two coming out of it, they can be dropped in a pot of dirt and will also come up (mine were also seeds from store bought grapes I purchased to eat).
The fridge increases the germination rate. If you follow the nature, the wild grape will fall ground, cover up during the winter and germinate the next spring. Fridge is just a trick to mimic the winter and kick start the process . If just sow into dirt, don't be surprised a few months later, some seed will wake up and start germinate
Hey! not trying to correct you But* i just started grape seeds that i collected this summer in a wet paper towel/ziplock in a warm space didnt refrigerated and my first seed sprouted in 14days and the rest started to open in 21+ days. i do refrigerate cherry seeds but i heard it was not needed for grapes and boom it worked! maybe it could be the variety or something who knows. cheers!
No, the trick is to replicate what happen in the nature where wild grape fall unto the grounds, go through winter, before it can germinate next spring. Here in tropical country, we don't have winter.... So we just use fridge
Yes, you can. I did it with all kind of fruit seeds, and I have little cherry trees, apple , prune, and this just by throwing the seeds where the vegetables are growing. I did this last year, without knowing that they are going to grow, even if i worked the soil with the shovel , just to get ready for this spring. The earh and nature are amazing. I burried all my popatoes peals, and any organic staff that it was supposed to go in the trash, and surprise, the potatos peals are now potaos growing . I learn each year that starvation can be avoided with a little bit of effort. My sursprise was the grapevine that showed up just because the seeds spent an autumn and winter in the ground. Just try with any seed, you will see.
@@khassan2008 I did not plant them on purpose. I had some grapes that went bad and tossed them in my yard. So it was september probably. And this year I thought that the little leafs are from the cherry seeds I tossed also. But they turned out to be grapes on the third leaf, growing up. Now they are 30 inches high, and it will probably need more time to produce fruit.
Does the pot affects the growth of a plant? I made a test on my avocados and both or them were 3 months old. I transferred the other one in my backyard without removing the soil i used. And the other one stayed on the comfortable size pot. 2 months later the avocado on pot only grew about 6inches and the other grew up fast and tall. But they’re both healthy from what i think they are.
Definitely...in particular those seed that germinate that produce wooden stem definitely need to repot to bigger size or straight to ground after germination...the pot size will affect the growth
Hi :-) Have you got the chance to get mature plants that produce grapes? I read about starting grapes from seed and professional growers say that plants started from seed will not be like the parent plant and they might not produce grapes at all or of a lower quality. If anybody else knows, please answer, I will greatly appreciate it.
Yes, it will not be the same as parent plant. But not necessary lower quality... All the professional grape wine breed and cross breed from seeds and wait for years to select and choose the best among all to be the sole cultivar for mass propagation
Peat moss is dead fibrous material that forms when mosses and other living material decompose thousand of years, mainly use for seedling...you can find in most shop. The potting mix is a mixture of topsoil+ peatmoss+pearlite and compost
no need when in fridge, if the lid is airtight, it should maintain the moisture. After planting ,water when then top start to dry up...depend very much on your site weather and sun. I always make sure the soil is damp ,not wet.
What I've learned from science class is, all living things have a gender, and reproductive organs, it's just different for each thing😅like some may need the opposite gender to reproduce, and some can do it by themselves
Yes, you can. I like peat moss , or potting mix because i understand the characteristic , i know how much water it can hold . Anyway , any soil will do as long as pH is correct
no need , the peat moss should be moist since is air tight in the fridge. if you feel is dry , then you may add water some....,Only top up when top surface start to dry out
Not very sure. Go ahead and give a try....that is your best teacher. The hottest here around 33 , that is not even the whole month, just a few weeks, the average is 30.
Peat moss + pearlite + compost. I use these because easily available here. You don't need to use exactly the same composition as I do. Important is make sure the soil is well drainage.
That is to mimic the winter ...in the nature, the wild grape fall into grounds, go through a season in winter and when spring come , it germinate. To do that, we just dump into fridge. This process call cold stratification. Without the cold treatment, the seed wont germinate

Why wait three months.grape vines love hot climate.just keep the pot outside and they will come out in 7 till 8 days. By the way good video
stratification is important for grape seeds for better germination
Grape Vines are not Grape Seed

Grape seeds only germinate in very cold condition. While grape wine propagate in hot season.

How often do you water and do you give a fert feed once a week? Or once a month

If placed near a post or fence, will these turn into grape vines?
ya, it will. If you live in tropical country, then is all about technique to prune it to force flowering

Can

In shaded area or where

Yes , shaded area untill it start to germinate. Then slowly introduce to morning sunlight for the hardening

Thanks for the explanation here.
Please disregard my other comment😅
why did u put it in the refrigerator?
It's called stratification. It mimics natural winter overing of the seed.
Can you do that without stratification?
Very unlikely, you need the cold stratification
Do these fruit the same grapes?
Very close to it, but end up the size of berry smaller!
is there such thing like make and female grape seeds? if so how will you know? or will they all bear fruits regardless of the gender?

Pearlite
