The desk in the entrance of the building is not in use anymore. There used to be a guy sitting there in order to allow guests entering the building. He also had other responsibilities, like cleaning the common areas, taking care of the elevator etc... Nowadays this has been replaced by cleaning agents and other companies. You can only find these kind of desks in very old buildings...
Koukaki is actually one of the best areas to stay when you visit Athens, if not the best. It's pretty quiet, really close to the centre of Athens, affordable and actually a really cool area in general. It has hippy vibes and a lot of young people go there to have a drink or eat brunch under the Acropolis. Good choice Mark!
0:53 That desk used to be where the man in charge of guarding the entrance would spent his day. His main job was to sit there and watch who comes and goes apart from the residents, lock the front door at night and unlock it in the morning. We no longer have doormen because each appartment has its own security system. Nowdays you can spot them only in movies of the 50s, so you can imagine how old the building must be!
Very cute apartment! The terrace is beautiful with all the greenery. It's wonderful that Ying and Micah can travel with you, it must make it extra fun (as well as challenging to have Micah along. )
I'm really glad that you enjoyed your stay in our beautiful country! You got an idea of how the apartments used to be 40yrs ago in the center of Athens, more or less... The one you stayed in, is a classic example, with the big balcony, marble at the stairwell, that "elevator"! :-)
Compared to many European houses/ apartments, this is still pretty modern. The lift may be old, but if it's maintained properly, no harm. Water pressure is a general problem in many southern European countries...
The water pressure IS NOT A GENERAL PROBLEM in the Athens. Because it depends from the area. For example, Koukaki has this problem in some buildings up to 5 floor but in the area close to Center (under Polytexneio), the water it's ok.

Yeah, I live in Czech Republic and a couple of friends I can think of at the moment have lifts like this one. And yeah, this apartment is a good apartment for Europe. He got flat-out robbed for 80 bucks a night though, but it's not a bad place.
Those kind of elevators are still very common all around the world because modernizing is very expensive and apartment owners don't want to pay any unnecessary extra fees.
I love your apartment tour videos Mark I just love the balcony .. In fact I love all of your work it feels like I'm traveling with you ying and Micah .. Lots of love and blessing for you guys
The price seems very reasonable. Very reasonable. The lovely greenery on the balcony gave the eye something to focus on so the lack of a view did not seem the issue which it might have been if there had been no flora. Thank you for the video!
Another wonderful video! This reminds me of my wife and I 35 - 40 years ago when our kids were Micah's age. Now we haul around grandkids, which is just as much fun. Including your family is what makes your videos extra special. Mahalo from Hawai'i!
Wow, that price is awesome for that nice set up in greece bro! Over here in San Diego....you'd pay that much for a tiny hotel room with just a bed, tv and a bathroom for one night. That balcony is great, fantastic video mark!
Hey Mark, this is actually a typical apartment building from the real estate boom of the 60's and 70's. Most of these buildings were built during that era on top of older, more traditional small houses, in order to compensate for the massive move of people from the more rural places to the urban areas. So it is a typical appartment building built between 1965 and the late '70s
Oh, I do love this full tours and walks around the area, it's something I save so that I can watch a couple of them in one evening, it's so nice, it feels like I am with you, thanks so much for this great idea.
That's awesome Mark, "There are two main ways to (get up to your floor)." Sometimes it seems you start taping early in the mornings, before you wake up...I really enjoy your apartment video, thanks Mark.
My husband is from Albania near Berat. I have been there as well, I hope that's on your radar in the future! I enjoy your channels greatly! Thanks so much for sharing your life, different cultures and your experiences!
Great to know the name of the flooring. I think it's the same in the apartment I live in, in Elche, Spain. It's very different building style for me & this is why I love Europe
If someone want a new elevator for his vacation must go to America or Dubai , not in Greece. This is a real and authentic Athens apartment to live like a local, in Rome we have elevators from before 2ww in a lot of central buildings and I like them very much, someone ask you a coin for working, but italians have a system not to pay. They do a great job, this is important. As Italian may be I would tell something about the bathroom (😳no bidet!!!) , but the balcony is really oversize and relaxing and forget the bathroom with a good metrio frappè
This brings back many memories when I lived in Greece in the early 80s,they do have much more modern and nicer places today, but very pricey, what I do miss we had a wrap around balcony the whole area around the apartment which was the whole third floor, where on one side we had a view of the ocean, another side the acropolis,on another the mountains ,were we spent many evenings watching beautiful sunsets
Hi Mark! I just love your videos. Your videos and narration make everything so relatable. You're like a friend narrating about his travels, food and experiences to his other friends. Keep up the good work. Hi to Yin and Micah.
Mark, you were on the 5th floor of a densely populated, old(classic) district....yes, the water pressure would be weak. That is not the norm for most of the areas. Glad you enjoyed your stay, apartment looked very comfortable.
Passons Family Vlog! As a middle class Greek I feel sorry for you that you're living in an apartment like that. I can't imagine myself getting in to these kinds of lifts on a daily basis.

Very nice apartment Mark. I understand about paying more for accommodations which traveling with children. It seemed to be worth it though. Enjoying this series very much. Take care.
Love your videos, Mark! I'm really impressed with how well Micah does in his world travels. Can you share more about how you travel with a young baby? I'm a new mom myself and love seeing your adorable family.

Hi! we were just there last summer and i recognize the sorroundings you were in. whenever we take a metro ride, we get off at Metaxourghio and walk a little bit and our hotel was there, Right beside our hotel was this Apartment and across it was a restaurant called Paula.I don't know if you stayed in that Apartment near the corner of Karoulo and Psaron. anyway, it looked familiar, Yes, i loved the food, plenty of sea food and quite cheap too!
Balcony is so spacious like a whole roof as u showed in ur Israel apartment video 👍 nd price is also ok.....and yes Congratulations Mark!! for winning best food video! U really deserve it nd I voted also😀😀....keep up👏👍❤
Mark I know you've mentioned different things in passing, but it would be really interesting to make a full video about challenges/differences since traveling with a baby. Thanks for another great video.
I love Athens! I have been living there for 2 years now vlogging my experiences traveling all over throughout Greece, Europe, and Dubai! :) Traveling is the best.
Typical 1960s apartment building, built during the building boom that lasted between the mid 50s to mid 70s. Although the intentions were good (to replace outdated and inadequate housing) it was done without any urban planning or conservation in mind, which meant that neoclassical masterpieces were demolished, not enough open public spaces, parking or urban landscaping. I miss my apartment living in Greece, which is my birthplace in Athens. Oh, the memories! I really miss the huge wall to wall closets in the bedrooms, and the front street Athens view from the huge balconies, although our 2 1/2 bedroom apartment was a lot bigger than the one bedroom apartment shown here. Now it costs about $2,370 a month to live in one bedroom apartment in Athens. Thanks for sharing, Mark
I understand about being quiet around your kid but don't be too quiet. They have to "learn" to sleep when it's a bit noisy. Otherwise you'll be tiptoeing around your house when Mica gets older too. Thanks for another great video. I always enjoy them!
That's a pretty well kept apartment for the price you paid. Close to the Acropolis area too. Just came back from Manhattan and stayed in an older and not so well kept apartment right next to Central Park West. No comparison, of course, when it comes to the price. Athens is much more affordable. And you got a nice verandah! As for the lift, the one in the Manhattan apartment building was the oldest I've seen so far... Have stopped complaining about my home city Athens since then, lol. Hope you enjoyed your stay.
Actually not. This is an old apartment probably build around 70's.The rent for this apartment for a whole month should be around 300 euros for the WHOLE month.I am greek by the way.

@@lindazahm4599 i would recommend checking on airbnb 1 month in advance, for 30-50€ per night there are decent places! Also if the location is bit a problem you can stay anywhere as far as it was metro line near , or for me the best location is . Kalithea, Tauros, koukaki, 3 stops from the city center
This is Cat from Brooklyn NY!🐱 I absolutely love this video! Of course, the balcony is fantastic! When I lived in LA I had a balcony like that! It had plants on the bottom and hanging plants all over and an overstuffed chair. It also had a black widow spider.🕷 I would sit in the chair and hang out with the spider! 🕸The spider never bothered me! Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS!💞 🆒 All of you deserve it! 💗I knew you would win.🎉🎈 I voted for you every day!🆒👍💞 You should have a party and film the video and show us all the treats you're having!🎵🎉🎈🎶🍰🍦🍾🍛🍻🍜🍹☕🍳❣✌☮💝🐱👍
I've seen similar size and type of elevator in older buildings in Italy. Some elevators have also an inner accordion metal door ( or vice versa) and you need to make sure that both doors are closed before it'll move or else you'll get a complaint/shout from someone about it because they can't access the elevator.
Hi Mark! We've been a long time subscribers to your other channel, Migrationology. We went to many restaurants in Bangkok following your suggestions. We went to eat to Khao Gaeng Jake Puey, Somsak Boo Op (one of the best meal of my life), Kuay Teow Kua Gai Nai Hong and many more. I would like to thank you for all the pleasure we had eating those delicious dishes.Keep doing what you are doing, you are the best! By the way, we bought the same baby travel crib. It's so light and easy to pack! It would be amazing to meet you in Bangkok (or elsewhere) one day!
If in Athens or Greece in summer, make sure you have air conditioning otherwise you will be sweating at night! I didn’t have A/C in Barcelona and it was brutal to sleep!
Nice video! You look cool and you seem to like your appartment! Best of greetings from a greek, lived in athens for many years but recenty moved to London

Athens is much more affordable. And you got a nice verandah! As for the lift, the one in the Manhattan apartment building was the oldest I've seen so far... Have stopped complaining about my home city Athens since then, lol. Hope you enjoyed your stay.
Love to see more of cute little Micah😘
Omgosh congratulations on winning best food video! Now that was one election I was very happy to cast my vote in.
Less than $80 per night whole apartment is a good deal
Actually not. This is an old apartment probably build around 70's.The rent for this apartment for a whole month should be around 300 euros for the WHOLE month.I am greek by the way.
ALXD1974 500 prolly, but no way 2400 lol
500 euros/month for that apartment? No way. I'd say 350-400 euros (max).
Airbnb is a total rip off most of the times.

I love the marble and the amazing balcony.
Hey , as a Greek citizen i can tell you that you can find much better places with the same or less in Athens :)
hello . can you tell me more about other places and where
@@lindazahm4599 i would recommend checking on airbnb 1 month in advance, for 30-50€ per night there are decent places! Also if the location is bit a problem you can stay anywhere as far as it was metro line near , or for me the best location is . Kalithea, Tauros, koukaki, 3 stops from the city center

I absolutely love this video! Anyway,
CONGRATULATIONS!💞 🆒 All of you deserve it! 💗I knew you would win.🎉🎈 I voted for you every day!🆒👍💞 You should have a party and film the video and show us all the treats you're having!🎵🎉🎈🎶🍰🍦🍾🍛🍻🍜🍹☕🍳❣✌☮💝🐱👍

If you have the time you can explore areas such as Pagrati! Great neighborhood with big surprises!
Very nice vid Mark ☺️ Love it.
I've seen similar size and type of elevator in older buildings in Italy. Some elevators have also an inner accordion metal door ( or vice versa) and you need to make sure that both doors are closed before it'll move or else you'll get a complaint/shout from someone about it because they can't access the elevator.
Thanks for the like on my last video Mark! Love the quality of your videos, keep up the awesome work!
No worries, thank you Michael!
In Chile that type of elevators are very common :D
Before we moved to Greece, we thought we may have been moving to Thailand. We have watched all your videos while you were there!

Welcome, Mark😇Hopefully, u ll explore more regions of Greece!
Welcome to Greece Mark! Have fun and go to great places to eat good food! :)
Usually these days all lifts have doors for protection, in newer buildings for sure
If in Athens or Greece in summer, make sure you have air conditioning otherwise you will be sweating at night! I didn’t have A/C in Barcelona and it was brutal to sleep!
