  • Need to fit five car seats in side a vehicle? The GX460 is one of the few vehicles on the road that can manage the task. Of course few will ever find the need for that kind of accommodation so I also gave the GX a thorough trial with child seats in the third row, second row and talk about cargo capacity. Stay tuned for the complete 2014 Lexus GX 460 review coming up in 2 days.

    You know you’re growing up when you’re looking at car reviews for car seats and not performance haha

    In 2017 we were looking for an SUV, and GX was one of the contenders, and i distinctly remember i skipped past this video and we did not have children back then, Fast forward to 2022, Our GX460 is going strong and we have welcomed a new family member recently. I must have watched this video at least 3 times, just to get better idea on how to put a rear facing baby seat + base in. 👍

    Hope you review the new 2024 Lexus GX especially with car seats. You’re the only one who has a review with car seats and it’s super helpful. Thank you.

    Spent 2 hours trying to secure my new Graco carseat in the rear passenger seat of my Lexus GX 460. I could only tether the clip near the door and the top tether over the seat to clip to the back of the seat. I could not access the anchor clip nearest the middle seat, and almost tore up the plastic by the seat belt holder trying to feel for the anchor point. I still only have 2 points tethered and the seat is not secured---it's beyond aggravating that the anchor bars are so hard to reach and clip onto.

    This was mostly great but a big question remains. How the heck does one access the third row with 2 or 3 carseats installed in the second row?

    • @TheBlooRayChannel
      @TheBlooRayChannel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can't. The only way is two buy the GX with the 2nd row captains chair option.

      TheBlooRayChannel and that’s what I ended up doing. 2017 with crawl control and captain’s chairs. Totes our two girls just fine.

      3rd row access with 2 car seats in the GX is quite easy, even without 2nd row captains. One car seat in second and another in third row, both on left side. This way, easy to get into 3rd row from passenger side rear door. Doing it all the time.

    I have yet to see a video that focuses in on ease of access to the 3rd row. We are looking for the best SUV to put two forward facing car seats in the 3rd row and one backward facing car seat in the second row. We need easy in and out / buckle up access to the 3rd row AND prefer a pass through second row / 7 seater suv. Can't find any listing of suvs with a pass through center for 2nd row. The best scenario would be to have the ability to remove a seat in the second row (like a minivan) to make the suv more configurable in the second row; does not exist. Any help appreciated.

      The new VW Atlas seems to have this access feature now!

    THANKS, THAT IS THE DILEMA RIGHT NOW. HOW TO FIT 3 CAR SEATS IN OUR LEXUS. LOOKS LIKE WE SHOULD BE FINE, NO NEED TO GO TO A MINIVAN....

    If 2 forward facing seats are installed on the edges of the second row how much room is on the middle of the seats. Could a small woman fit in the middle if necessary?

    a few comments from a CPST:
    The car seats are not properly reclined for rear facing children.
    I'm very glad to see you pointed out that everyone should read both the vehicle and car seat manuals. Is there a top tether anchor in the second row center position? If not, a forward facing seat should not be there.
    Since the 3rd row doesn't have top tether anchors a forward facing child should not ride in that row. This row should be reserved for rear facing or booster riders. Also, the seat should be snugly installed without the assistance of that tether.

      It often looks a little odd in the videos, but the seat was at the proper angle on the built-in level indicator on the child seat (ball in the center of the green zone while on level pavement).

      I believe you have the seat in the forward facing mode but installed rear facing.

      Nichole Brown This particular model only uses the ball level for rear facing mode. The forward facing "kickstand" was in the folded position. The Graco Classic Ride 50 is fairly upright compared to some rearward facing child seats.
      In answer to the previous question (which I forgot to answer), yes there are three top tether anchors in the second row. I actually do not know of a vehicle sold in the USA that has a 3-person second row without three top tether anchors. LATCH is only federally required on the outboard but some manufacturers do provide LATCH anchors and top tethers on the third row and the center section but it is rare.

      Nichole Brown I think I'll add a note to the video. The angle of the camera and the overall composition make that seat look far more upright in the back than it really is.

      The newer models of the Honda Odyssey are the only vehicles I know of that has 3 tether anchors in the third row. Other so called family vehicles, including the Sienna, are lacking in ease of use and safety. The added the note pointing out the recline issue would be helpful. Id hate for parents to think that all rear facing seats will fit in this vehicle because it apears to have a lot of room on your video. I'll be traveling in my mother in laws 2013 model in a few days. Thankfully we have 4 kids in boosters.

    Can you move the seat with a car seat on it to get to the 3rd row?

    • @chrischambless
      @chrischambless 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Natalie Garcia i cant figure out how to do it. Plus the 60/40 seat means that just installing 2 seats in the second row prevents third row access.

    Do you recommend mpv or SUV as people carrier? From my personal experience I think mpv is more comfortable for passenger as it's more spacious. And according to euro NCAP, mpv safety rating is a bit higher than SUV. So I would like to know why ppl prefer SUV to mpv, and what do you think about it Andy.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well in general safety isn't sexy. Meanwhile TV shows and movies show the cool kids driving large SUVs. It's really more of a style thing than anything. Most large SUVs have had many of their off road systems reduced in capability to save weight and improve fuel economy so your average traditional SUV holds only a small off-road advantage compared to an AWD crossover. Traditional SUVs still have high towing capacities but most people will never need that.
