introduction: hi! my name is evie meg, i’m 20 years old and i make videos sharing my life living with tourette’s syndrome, aiming to raise awareness, educate more people and try to make light of living with this everyday. since as you can imagine it’s very difficult. my tics started when i was 12, but just sounded like constant hiccups. when i was 16 i got a couple more tics like head jerks, hand rubbing etc, but when i was 19 they started progressing and over time got worse into what they are today.

It's weird: I started watching you, never really seeing anyone having tics in public before, then Sunday, I happened to see a woman ticking like crazy at a shop I was at. She was blinking really hard and throwing up her left hand and whistling. People were staring, and all she was trying to do was get some shampoo. Her right hand was on a bottle, but her tics were preventing her from picking up the shampoo and putting it in her basket. It was so strange to see in real life. I offered to help her and she was grateful, so we picked a shampoo and a conditioner! No mention of anything, nothing else was said but a thank you from her. It's not funny, and you are not circus freaks to be gawked at. Offer help when you see this. Just do it. Don't laugh, don't stare, just be kind. Please.

truth is, nothing else had to be said, that was it. peaple should just normalize this kind of behavior, insted of just expecting to get any kind of prize for doing the lesser thing you can. and also, a person with tourette must hate to explain everyday a lot of that that she has a sindrome etc...
It’s almost as if she tells her brain ‘don’t do this’ and her brain be like ‘you mean this?’

Actually... yeah. Tourette's can be like this. Mine is, anyway. The more you think about a tic (for example, thinking about trying to stop it, or worrying that it might happen) the more likely it is to happen.
When I was a kid my mom tried making up code words to say instead of "tics" and "Tourette's" because whenever someone mentioned it around me my tics would act up.
(This didn't work. Since I obviously knew what she was talking about, the code words had the exact same effect.)

It’s interesting that you tic a lot less when you’re singing. My friend when I was young had a lot of ADHD but when she was reciting lines for the school play she was so calm and focused.
I’ve struggled with focus a lot bc of adhd but somehow reciting lines and memorizing things is very easy for me
I hear that sometimes distracting your brain can help lessen tics
my friend has tourettes but when she is reading from a script and there is one of her trigger words in it, she doesn't tic at all because she is focused on the acting
Same I have ADHD and not for that but for somethings I can focus super good on it.
@@lydza9762 same here. My roommate doesn’t tick when she’s gaming, but the moment you talk to her she goes “Meep meep! Woosh!” (She can replicate that roadrunner sound effect so good, it’s ridiculous).

We have yet to understand the advanced methods that our animal colleagues understand our (human) emotions.

I have Tourette's syndrome and life is 10 times harder than it is for everyone else. Simple tasks become difficult, I am so grateful that you feel comfortable enough to video your tics and then post them. Whenever mine happens I get beyond embarrassed but I love the way you're comfortable enough to be yourself, even on camera. You're such an inspiration to me.

I love how you just laugh off all of your tics. I bet you get this a lot, but I just want you to know you really inspire me. I don't have Tourette's, nor do I have tics, but you still inspire me to make the best of any situation and just laugh it off (because sometimes laughing feels really hard). 😍😚

I don't have Tourette, but I started to suffer from vocal and physical tics few weeks ago after a nervous breakdown. (I'll have to meet doctors to check about those.)
I somehow manage to not tick when I'm drawing.

hm good question! if something happens really fast often the adrenaline of it makes my tourettes go a bit nuts😂(like my mum flipping the cups everywhere)

It's interesting how creative endeavors like singing tend to naturally suppress the tics.
Don’t pay attention to the haters, tics and Tourette’s is a very real thing, don’t think it’s a bad thing, all you have to do is embrace it. And I know, it’s harder than it looks, I also have tics.
