Thanks for sharing an other amazing hike! Madeira is on my bucket list for places to go and explore. I get a kick out of you Brits names for veggies "Aubergines" for "Eggplant", "Courgettes" for "Zucchini" , and "Rocket" for "Arugula". Even in the US people in different parts of the country call veggies by different names in the mid-west "green pepper" are sometimes called "Mangos" ? But thanks to the internet I now know what veggies are called in the UK. The big fight in the US over pizza, is "Pine-apple". Do you Brits eat "Pine-apple" on pizza? Cheers 🍕🍕🤠
I never knew some Americans call green peppers mangos. If I heard that, I'd just think of the sweet orange on the inside and green and orange on the outside fruit! Oh yes, the pineapple on Pizza is a good age-old debate in the UK too. Over the past few years, I've had a charity come in to talk about an opportunity for over the summer for 16 year olds (after they do their big exams) and they are at a point where they just don't want to engage with external speakers, so they start by asking them all to stand up if they agree with a statement and stay seated if they disagree. The 1st is always that pineapple should be on pizza. It's enough of a topic to make them not want to stay seated! They move onto 'learning how to drive should be part of the school curriculum (as it's not here) and this sends them wild as even the most shy can't stay seated as lessons cost so much!! So pleased Madeira has made it onto your bucket list. I appreciate the flight may be costly for you coming from the US, but once there, it's very affordable!
I love it when fog and clouds cover the top of a green mountaintop like that, what an epic scene! It sounds like finding the right parking spot is just as tough as actually doing the hike out there haha! How lucky were you got get the Balcoes all to yourselves - love it when that happens. Darn it that pizza looked good, I bet it went down a treat after all that hiking!
I love it when the clouds do that too. I've normally only experienced it in places like the alps or Lake District, never in a coastal area like this. The pizza was incredibly good - so many different pizza topping combinations that I'd never dream of ordering, but they were delightful! Yum

Hi Khatoon, I'm well thank you, I hope you are too. I can't get over the straw roofs needing to be replaced every 4-5 years. I have respect for people who've kept them, but if it was my house, for the sake of practicality, I'd have put tiles on the roof by now! After we did this walk, we were told by locals that the wine that was transported along the trail would weigh less on it's arrival than it did on its departure - as the men carrying it would take swigs along the way. So over time, security guards were employed to hike with the men carry the wine! 🤣 I wish I'd known this before doing the hike as I'd have totally included in the video!
