@norzza I think the Fade Touched Bulwark is in Arlathan Forest, in the northeast. If I'm not mistaken, it is nearby to where the champion enemy is in that area, in a chest.
I appreciate you showcasing this build. I was getting a little frustrated that I couldn't really find any Champion Build videos for ideas but also I recognize that it's still fairly early & people are still testing builds.
Yeah I went for the slayer and is a bit disappointed. Is so slow and clunky and everything relies on charge attack I know that I can respect but I already use a lot of resources to upgrade charge weapon and stager. Should of gone with the reaper or champion
@edfornes8010 I feel that. I'm not having a terrible time with Warrior but 2 out of the 3 Specializations don't fit my usual playstyle. I probably should have gone Rogue in hindsight lol.
@@kurse36s I said the same shit. I also did not have a bad time with slayer but after a while the whole charge thing gets repetitive after 40 hours of game time, I think slayer out of all 9 specialization is the most boring or bare bone if them all
Being able to block previously unblockable attacks is so fun. The first time I got the node for it, I immediately looked for those big darkspawns that charge toward your player in a straight line and kept blocking the hell out of it. Feels pretty nice
I'm playing my Champion build completely different. With Spectral Bulwark up I can stack almost 1000 defense and the Best Defense passive on the Champion tree adds 50% this defense to your shield damage making your shield the weapon with the highest base damage in the game. I just shield bash every enemy to death or use shield toss. I'm using the Field Commander's Helm to turn all abilities into cooldowns, so I can use all my rage for a passive damage bonus. The Plate of the Paragon is the armor with the highest defense rating in the game. Main weapon is the Bandit's Bulwark shield, which has great damage and stagger. I use the Woodsong Cleaver as stat stick to get more rage and damage scaling from rage and Vigilant Greathammer as stat stick for additional defense scaling, but I never attack with them and just shield bash. For rings I use Twin Palladium to have another item to scale damage with rage and Paragon's Knuckle to get more defense. As amulet I use the Pale Reflection so that all non-boss enemies count as low-health and I can also easily charge my ultimate. As belt I currently use Dragon's Brace for even more defense, but might switch to the Hardbitten Belt for longer staggers. With 1000+ defense you feel immortal and I never dodge or block with this build as getting hit gives you more rage. Just get Immoveable up and start bashing. It's great to whack enemies around the battlefield with your shield bashes that do 3k up to 7k damage per hit on the highest difficulty. I could add fire/burning on top, but so far it felt a bit underwhelming without heavy investment.
I found high defense (pure for defensive purposes) fairly useless. At 300 you already take almost no damage from hits, but red circles and magic attacks in general ignore defense. Also 2h sucks.
Have you considered running the Executioner's Blade and get Rolling Thunder in the Lords of Fortune section? It makes charged attacks crit on Overwhelmed Enemies and Harding has a way to make the Overwhelmed effect permanent on an enemy after detonating Overwhelmed. I'm not 100% certain this combo would work but it could be a way to add consistent crits to repeated charged shield bashes.
About the shield: After you get your Warden companion you unlock a new area of the Arlathan Forest during his companion quest. In that area is a little fort. right next to a beacon in the "Tainted woods" that is filled with blight and a champion which drops an essence for a door. After defeating the champion you can open a big chest at the top of the fort which contains the shield. I just got it myself
You get the shield in a chest above the champion you fight in Arlathan Forest. You need to do some climbing and clear some blight stuff. Thanks for the build guide! I have been having fun with Champion and have been doing something pretty similar but enjoy seeing how folks are optimizing it.
I had a Slayer Stagger build that, each time I was doing a takedown, gave me: - Health back - Fire Weapon - Random Advantage It was so fun to play with it.
Slayer build is great. I went a bit unorthodox I think, and have mostly been avoiding stagger. Originally I had it cranked, but felt like I wasn't getting enough out of it. So now I just focus on damage, especially through Charge attacks. Some people have said they use stagger to give them a chance to charge their charge attacks, but I just charge either after a perfect parry or during a detonation.
As a champion main for the entire series, thanks for seeing us. I literally couldn't find anything on our tanky boy. Although bleed champion sounds interesting too
I run a sapper build (fitting as I am playing a Dwarf) Abilities: titan stomp, grappling spear, and blights bane which is the bread and butter. Gear: weapon is the axe that boosts rage generation, chest is the one that boosts rage generation, and necklace is the area damage one, the rest of the gear is pretty much the same. once the fight starts you get rage pretty quickly, enough to use blights bane every 3 to 6ish seconds.
Harding's enhanced damage ability has an ability that makes it so all your cooldowns are reduced by a flat 20 seconds. And since the enhanced damage is a 19 second cooldown on her. You basically reduce the cooldown of all your abilities (since they're now 60 second cooldown) to 40 seconds. Or even more since first time you've basically able to do all 3 abilities, then use Hardings enhanced ability and then in 20 seconds you use her enhanced ability agian and then you've all your abilities back. So on average you reduce your cooldowns by 50%.
Hell yeah. I was using your captain America build and the play style just wasn’t doing it for me so I went champion route and have been loving it. You’ve got a few things that I didn’t think to do so thanks man! Loving the content and have actually been enjoying the game!
I play a similar build and here some of my tips: I use wardens straps for the belt which creates fire when you use a potion. Parried with the overflow gem, you can use it to instantly apply a few stacks of burning at the beginning of a fight. I use titan stomp instead of the chain. once you parry and group up enemies, titan stomp has enough stagger to fill my rage 2/3.
The most interesting thing about this build for me is that you can play with basically all companions without losing synergy, which is usually my play style, regardless of whether the game "forces" you to take the same usual suspects.
So there's a weapon for Warrior called Executioner's Longsword that makes it so charged attacks will always be critical hits against an enemy under the Overwhelmed effect. One of Harding's abilities makes the effect of Overwhelmed effect permanent on a target. Reading the ability makes it look like it's just increased stagger while not actually being Overwhelmed but the ability wheel will light up as if Harding can perform a detonation on the target with the permanent effect without actually detonating the target. So while I haven't tested this because on the first playthrough I never looked for every chest and couldn't fully upgrade the sword but I would not be surprised if this permanent Overwhelmed effect applied by Harding in combination with the sword would let you permanently be able to crit with charged attacks. The Lords of Fortune section and Slayer specialization is all about charged attacks, stagger and making Smash abilities count as Charged attacks, in particular it has Rolling Thunder which lets you do a chain of charged melee attacks. I'm not sure how strong this would be but it certainly sounds like it has potential for some beefy damage.
I’d strongly recommend the Igneous Fist ring as your second ring - increases flaming weapons duration, flaming weapons damage and fire ability damage whilst flaming weapons is active. Also, final trait is to apply burning to a target after you kill an enemy with flaming weapons. It synergises PERFECTLY with this build!
I have to say, this build made the game more enjoyable. I even felt more confident so I upped the difficulty. Started out as a stagger slayer, at the time it had no good boss damage, then to necrotic shield throw, kept getting interrupted before I could even throw a max charge shield plus it was to squishy at the time, swapped to this and the defense is amazing, the damage is more than what I thought it would be since it seemed to lean more defensive style, and the parry when it’s a heavy attack is a godsend.
is there a reason why you use grapling chain over titan stomp? Or is it solely for the fire damage? Cuz Titan Stomp is an AoE and it seems a lot better for applying overwhelm.
It's not random. It's above the northwest champion in Arlathan forest in a big chest. You don't even have to fight the champion, just climb around it's area. I got it without beating the champion.
My girlfriend just got me the game. I was looking at deadly ground really wanting to grab it due to the enhanced damage and WoW consecration style AOE. Glad to see i can get that and do champion at the same time. Having a surplus of points is great
Bulwark unique is in arlathan forest specifically the hidden Grove I believe it's called anyways its there and in the middle of a fade touched puzzle which also has a champion guarding it
You get that shield from the unique chest in the center of the lake that you go to for Davrin’s first companion quest in Atlathan Forrest. Note: have to complete Davrin’s first quest before you can access the center of the lake.
I switched from champion to slayer structure. I wish I had switched earlier. It has a satisfying and enjoyable gameplay. You can clearly feel the difference.
For clarification, does warrior function different thsn rogue when leveling and what they unlock? Yoou said to go either inspiring guard or reverb at 30, but for rogue, only 1 side unlocks at 30 and the other side unlocks at 40.
Any reason why you use the Eberhard grade axe instead of the unique casket, great axe which changes all light attacks to heavy and staggers enemies on kill?
Thanks for the guide! Any idea why your helm is called Magebane, and mine is called Field-Commander's Helm? Same stats and also found in southern Hossberg Wetlands by the lake. Actually, I may have figured it out.... I'm human and you are Qunari. Is it possible that the legendary gear changes names, depending on Rook's race???

I have a question, you say you focus on burning damage instead of fire because your weapon doesn't do fire damage, but flaming weapon deals fire damage doesn't it? I was under the impression that flaming weapon would definitely benefit from added fire damage. Would you say it doesn't and if so why?
Nope, playing warden and also have it. Don't exactly know where I got the original version though and upgrades are pretty hard to find. One upgrade I got from one of Neve's conpanion missions in a hidden chest and the other from the Black Emporium and that's rather late game.
I got the sword as an antivan crow during the first quest inside dock town where you go the church. Chest is in a corner in plain sight. Don’t know if it’s random or not though.
I just wonder if running the rage building helms and armors wouldnt allow more detonating of weakened and spamming of the fire skills, instead of the CD helm.
This build looks fun. You did say that this is a Burning and not a Fire damage build, however it seems you focus on Fire damage with the boost to your flaming weapons, which your entire chest piece is doing. The weapon makes sense, bc you want flaming weapons to spread burning, however you get Fire restistance stacking and that ONLY (AFAIK) is adding to your fire damage, not Burn. Any explanation? Thoughts on antivian parade helm instead? I think the +25% flaming weapon damage and double flaming weapon damage on burning targets it's kinda cracked
so have a question say you get enough skill points to get all 3 +50 max rage nodes on top of having enough for the build would it better to put the +50 rage enchant on instead of the +25 control ability damage for the unburnable band cause that would put your max rage at 350 with the enchant but it dosen't look like it reflects on the rage bar at least from what I can tell
I've pretty much got most of the gear to start this up minus the chest piece, anyone know where to get it? I have a sneaking suspension that its warden related?. [Edit] found it at one of the spirit shops in the crossroads
The helm I belive changes look with race cause I'm using a human Grey warden and it looks like a griilffon head and I believe it's call the field-commanders helm
So whats the difference between fire damage and burning damage? Also im running a build similar to this, but im still incorporating the throw and bounces. Lastly, I feel like 60 seconds is too long to wait for abilities using that helmet, since I can cast multiple times using rage under 60 secs. Just a preference though I suppose.
I have been using a similar build and often switch between this and a slayer build on nightmare difficulty and i can melt bosses , I don't understand how people call the game sponggy. Every opponent dies extremely fast if you read into abilities and items and build like a normal person.
@Norzza I've consulted an AI but im not sure it is correct. IT said that enchantments from your 1hweapon as well as the shield do not take any effect for your hits with a 2h weapons. Anyone got information in this topic? This seems according to the AI be the same for the stats on these 1h items (swords+shield) Just tested it in the Arena. My dmg numbers were the same, no matter enchantments or even sword & shield stats. So my conclusion is, if you are wielding and using the 2h exclusivly, dont even bother around with 1h sword, shield and the enchantments on em. If you don't believe it, test it yourself ;) Gimme your results.
My thought was if its a straight up effect like +30 defence or +10% resistance on a shield that applies but if it says deal or apply then you have to have that weapon out and being using it for those two obviously deal damage and apply stuff.
Does anyone know where extra spellbound longswords can be found? I can’t for the life of me find any more and I’ve been through most of the chests in game.
Then build around the immovable buff. There is a good skill for it, and a great item as well which grant +50% penetration when immovable. This way you won't be interrupted during your big 2h weapon smashes Also have a look on the bonuses granted by your companion's healing skills. I don't remember who (maybe Harding?) but at least one of them gives immovable and a +50% duration on it.
@norzza

Could you do a slayer with fire or this one with 2han? Wish you could be like taarsh if i said her name right fire and dual axes
If you're going to make a build you should probably add a list of all of the skills somewhere, even if it's just in the bio.
I need Information about All uniques everyone knows the basics but there are a lot more is there a unique staff ?
I have been using a similar build and often switch between this and a slayer build on nightmare difficulty and i can melt bosses , I don't understand how people call the game sponggy. Every opponent dies extremely fast if you read into abilities and items and build like a normal person.
I just found your video and by coincidence I'm using the exact same build lol.
Not sure about the name.. because you know... memory... but its the first forest area, the green biome, top, top left of map I think...
The Helm/Vitar seems Race/Faction related.
I'm a human Grey Warden, and the Field Commaders Helm has the exact same stats
It's Race related. For every other race except Qunari it's called Field Commanders.
I got my shied from beating the champion in Arlathan and climbing up to the chest that you unlock with solas' knife
Have leveling Guide?
Does someone mind telling me where i can find the duplicates so the gear can get up in rarity?
was looking for a champion build
Trying using the build with aoe skills. It works well
@Norzza I've consulted an AI but im not sure it is correct. IT said that enchantments from your 1hweapon as well as the shield do not take any effect for your hits with a 2h weapons. Anyone got information in this topic? This seems according to the AI be the same for the stats on these 1h items (swords+shield)
Just tested it in the Arena.
My thought was if its a straight up effect like +30 defence or +10% resistance on a shield that applies but if it says deal or apply then you have to have that weapon out and being using it for those two obviously deal damage and apply stuff.
can anyone help me figure out how to get the chess piece? Is that part of a grey warden quest line or is it in a random chest you find in the area?
Crossroads spirit merchant.
Please name transmog warden shield from video .
Champion for the win. Absolutely dominates Nightmare when you get the hang of it.
You using this build?
@darklord123210 I use a champion build although mine is a bit different from this one
Anyone know where to find the Champions Brilliant Regalia armor? I have no idea where it is.
Crossroads spirit merchant.
Does anyone know where extra spellbound longswords can be found? I can’t for the life of me find any more and I’ve been through most of the chests in game.
Keep progressing the story. It's a very late game item.
@ thank you. I already got it now, but still thank you for taking the time to respond.
I love your build so I’m using it but I don’t understand how you have so much more defense than me
On highest difficulty, enemies always interrupt me when using two handed weapon,, I feel like you must do shield build for nightmare warrior
Then build around the immovable buff. There is a good skill for it, and a great item as well which grant +50% penetration when immovable. This way you won't be interrupted during your big 2h weapon smashes
Also have a look on the bonuses granted by your companion's healing skills. I don't remember who (maybe Harding?) but at least one of them gives immovable and a +50% duration on it.
Build looks great but like the duelist, perfect defence is rly hard to get in the highter difficulty, or maybe its just me that totaly sucks ^^
Thank you!!
I thought mythics are random drops from chests? Isn't it all rng?
no
You all are convincing me to go Champion
