I had a 4 litre Chimaera for 5 years - despite the mythology out there it proved to be very reliable, cheap to run, massive fun, and didn't smell of glue! I found its handling nothing like the 'widow maker' reputation of other myths.....I appreciated the large boot - I could get a small deflated dinghy, its outboard, and other clobber in there for my sailing activities.....I"m trying to recall why I sold it now!
I've had a 4.5 for 14 years. Fantastic car. It's now had a lot of simple upgrades (Emerald ECU, ported heads, improved injectors, hi lift cam, racing brakes, Core sports suspension, Surrey roof to name a few). Rolling roaded at 326 bhp. Just bought another. God knows why, but I liked the colour, I guess.
@@GRTTH-cam wrong, the ice warning light is bottom middle, just above hand brake light between the rev counter and Speedo. Also the part about dimming the dash lights is wrong, lights are off or on via button by left knee. The knob by the steering wheel adjuster is for intermittent wiper speed adjustment.
You have mentioned a few things ref trim and cubbyholes, I’ve owned my 4.5 Chimaera for 2 years and did not know they exist behind the seats, as one of the other comments I’ll check now, thanks for posting and you have a lovely looking Chimaera. 👍
Great video, but you should have shared the sound of that fabulous V8, it’s one of the best bits about a TVR! Fellow TVR owner myself, currently driving a rare 390se series 2. All the best
As an owner, I reckon that Chimaeras are the biggest bargains in the sports car world. An acquaintance has just spent £15k on an MGB GT. It's a very nice example, with 97bhp and is fully restored. But if we went to Cadwell and set off together, I would lap him (with ease) before he'd completed 2 laps. My car would probably only be about £5k more to buy. It has a bigger boot, sounds better and is much, much better to drive. Grab one whilst you can, because once they start to arrive in the States in big numbers, the Americans will hoover them up and prices will rocket.
Unfortunately, the Federal Exhaust Gas Fun Ban Ordinance (BABVVO) and Transport Tourism Emission Restriction Federal Ordinance (TEBBVO) will soon ban driving combustion engines in public outside of proven commuter trips and transport trips, because then exhaust gas fun WILL be a traffic offense!!!!!! Furthermore, a vehicle tax of 30,000 euros for exhaust gas-emitting combustion engines was threatened!!!!!!!!

A thing of beauty...
I love TVRs!! I’ve never driven one nor seen one irl. But just in love with their ethos and presence
I've owned 4. You wouldn't be disappointed sir. :)
You don't drive them, you 'detonate' them 😂
if your TVR cooks in hot days - you have a problem like clogged radiator, they work fine if the system is looked after.

Lovely turquoise chimaera. Learning a lot from a variety of TVR videos on TH-cam.
I’ve had mine 4 years but I’ve never noticed cubby boxes behind the seats
Will go up and see it to check tomorrow 😊
They're there
She drifts in an endless curve.Through shadows and metaphor.Body signal and semaphore. From my window her eyes are Aglow..
MIL light is a Malfunction Indicator Light. It comes on if the ECU detects a fault
On the Chimaera it also shows low outside air temperature, if I remember in yellow, it goes red for ECU fault.
@@GRTTH-cam Ah OK, thank you.

@@GRTTH-cam no not true - TVRs have a separate air temp light that changes colour with temp
@@SNORKYMEDIA Correct.

I've had the pleasure of owning two S2 390SEs. :)
I miss my Chimaera. Fantastic cars to drive. I would have preferred it with a softer rev limiter.
