#birthdaycard #cardmaking #embossing
In the US, those are called "Tooth Picks". The ones with a frilly plastic decoration on one end, or sometimes they look like a sword or an umbrella,..those are for garnishes, such as olives, or to put into a sandwich, to keep them together. To be clear, the umbrella type I've never seen stuck in a sandwich, just tropical type drinks.
That’s it !! We call them cocktail sticks and yes the fancy ones (umbrellas etc) are more for drinks 🥰🥰🥰
Back in the 70’s I had art in Jr High and we did enameling on copper. The teacher placed the pieces in a kiln and when she pulled them out she did the swirl with a metal pick. It was beautiful then, as well as now on card board!
Oh WOW what a brilliant teacher, our art teacher popped a pear on the table and said, draw that ! 🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰
@@marionemberson ours did similar, but she changed it up quite a bit! I’m an antique, so those days of schools using kilns are probably gone! She even had us ‘painting flowers’ with crayons you would melt on to the card board. Can you imagine that with a class of 12-13 year olds? She also boiled some bones and had me sand them for jewelry. I worked fast, and she kept having to come up with something more for me! She was a gem.
@@barbarahill6365 oh what brilliant memories and a fabulous teacher, that’s what teaching is all about !! 🥰🥰🥰
On the embossing to make the enamel look, I also added mica powders for the colors I didnt have, it still worked
Absolutely it will work and give a lovely surface effect 🥰🥰
I’ve just found you 23rd Oct 22 ! I was wondering what to get enthusiastic about 😅 and here you are❤🇳🇿
Oh bless you Donna, thank you, I hope you have fun playing xxx
Thank you so much Marion I really really enjoyed watching you create all those beautiful and stunningly gorgeous pieces of embossing. I really really love ❤❤❤❤ them all absolutely fantastic and fabulous too. You are never ever boring!!!!! You make my heart ❤️ smile . Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much Mags, so glad you enjoyed it 🥰🥰🥰
Love this card! I’m in the US. Rainbows, butterflies, and dogs make me happy! 😁
Hi Hilary, you can’t go wrong with that !! 🥰🥰🥰
I wish I could afford an ever growing supply of WOW embossing powders and ink myself !!!! Then reality clicks in and yeah back down to earth I fall. But love these fun techniques you've introduced us too. And I have a jar of buttons some huge too that I could definitely play with. Also that would include seeing how they hold up in our front load washer. I might want to use a lingerie bag to protect them. Also air dry not through the dryer which though I run mine on medium to light temperatures never high still might be too hot and cause some delamination of the enamel. Lots of stuff to think about and play with our own experimenting. Thanks for your shares. Would love to take a class from you at the end of your garden and share the 12 person table with 11 others too. How fun.
I never get bored of experimenting with EP’s … have fun 🥰🥰🥰
Absolutely stunning works of art 🤩🤩
Thank you so much 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you, Marion. I have make feathers earrings with chipboard and embossing powder. Three different size feathers where the dies already have a small hole for the findings and have come out beautiful. I have other jewelry dies for the same, but I got really sick and I have no strength to do much. I therefore, like to watch different crafters with new ideas so that if I get better, I can do some. I love mixed media so it’s really nice of you to do these mini masterpieces so that crafters can incorporate all types of ideas. God Bless you and thank you once more.
The feather earrings sound lovely 🥰🥰 I’m so sorry to hear you got sick, I hope you’re better soon ❤❤❤
All of the are just gorgeous!!! ❤❤
Thank you so much 🤗🤗🤗
Absolutely gorgeous 😍😍😍
Thanks so much Roxy 🥰🥰🥰
ummm (lol), I love the different ideas of using the different colours of embossing powders because I went crazy when WOW came out!
YAY.. go have fun and play 🥰🥰🥰
BRILLIANT TECHNIQUES STUNNING
Thanks so much Carol 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for showing us these fabulouse ways to use embossing powder ,i have never even thought about it. I just found your youtube channel yesterday and i have been binging your videos almost without stop for a day and a night (well i had to sleep about 4 hours lol ) . New subscriber here from norway . I have to get me some more embossing powders ,its not easy getting hold of Wow embossing powders and other wow products in norway but there are some i can buy-or i have seen 2 diffrent packs of 3 powders in one online store-so i guess i will start there.. i cant wait to start plating with them
Oh thank you so much, I really appreciate the sub 🤗🤗 I love that you’re going to experiment 🥰🥰 you could contact sales@wowembossingpowder.co.uk as well, I could be wrong, but I thought they had a new distributor in Norway, but I could have got that wrong 🥴🥴🥴😂🤗🤗🤗
Thank you so much
Hi. Such a great technique that renders fabulous results, thank you for sharing your skills. My mum used to cut oranges in half to poke the cheese and pineapple sticks into so that they looked like edible hedgehogs plated up on the buffet table. Aah, sweet childhood memories.
Ahh I love that idea Deb, I’ll have to make some for my granddaughters when they’re a little older ❤❤❤
My mum did this too. Yet in Aussie land they are toothpicks.
Loved everything especially the button.
No I think the rose gold with ebony and white xxx
@@karenlee6501 I think my mum calls them toothpicks now, only cause we don’t do cheese and pineapple anymore 🤣🤣🤣
@@karenlee6501 that was lovely, if I say so myself 🤣🤣
They’re known as toothpicks here in the US, but cocktail pick sounds so much nicer and more accurate description.
Thanks Bonnie, I think it because we used them with cheese and pineapple chunks back in the day at cocktail parties 😂😂🤗🤗🤗
Hi from Australia. Always enjoy your videos
Thanks so much, great to have you here 🤗🤗🤗
i love your videos and your humor! Dallas, TX
Thanks so much 😍😍😍

The technique with the baking sheet would be amazing on a chipboard album cover. Thanks. I have loads of embossing powder including lots of WOW.
Oh yes, that would look lovely, have fun !! 🤗🤗
These are so beautiful!! Love the look.
When we were little, I remember my Mom making cheese, pineapple and maraschino cherries on toothpicks. (Yes ..the dreaded maraschino cherries) and the combination was delicious!! I made them for a retro party once and they were a big hit!! Ha!
All the old ones are the best Wendy, don’t think I ever had cherries on mine though 🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰
I made them for a celebration a few years ago and displayed them in an upturned grapefruit like a hedgehog. They are a great centre piece.

Hi. So inspiring. With the button and washing.....It will probably peel off, but if you sand the surface so the embossing powders sticks better it might be successful. You can only try.
That’s a fabulous idea Hazel, much like ‘keying’ a surface before painting !!! Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
Just beautiful again Marion x
Thanks lovely 🥰🥰🥰
So beautiful….love watching this technique….I need to try it!!

Hi Marion. Just watched your video for the second time. I'm going to be teaching a WOW class at Scrapbooks By The Sea tomorrow and needed a brush up. TFS lovely
You're welcome Denise, thanks for watching xx
MARION, what if you used a microwave for the non metal embossing powders. Wonder if it would be faster.
Hmmm I’ve never thought of that, BUT, check out my latest video showing a gadget I bought, it worked a treat for this technique 🤗🤗
To cover my chipboard I first put down a fine layer of white embossing powder. I don't need any other products than I are already using and my colours are true.
Absolutely Karen, I can’t remember if I mentioned that, probably not 🙈🙈, but anything that covers and gives a white base works, hope you’ve had fun with this technique 🥰🥰🥰
This is absolutely gorgeous.
I not familiar with the product you are using. I am in Canada. Can you write down your the name of your product. I am in love with this. ❤❤❤
Thank you Gizele. 🥰 I’m assuming you’re talking about the embossing powders I used ? If so, click this link and it will show you shops that supply WOW Embossing Powder in Canada wowembossingpowder.com/where-to-buy/
I hope that helps 🥰🥰🥰
Where are your classes I want to come and play lol x
I’m in Essex 😂😂 I’m fraud they’re full right now 🥰🥰
I am wondering, do you need good ventilation to ensure you don't inhale vapors from the melting embossing powder?
Hi Debrah, not at all, unlike when I use resin and I’m dressed up like something out of a sci-fi movie, gloves, glasses, mask 🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing these techniques. I have two questions. What do you use to stick the skin to the back of the card with the cut out letters, and can you show how you make the scroll shapes using the cocktail stick, from another angle? From the top down angle it mostly shows the heat gun rather than how you’re actually making the shapes. It was fairly clear on the pastel heart, but would love to see how you did it on the gold heart. Thanks!
Thank you ❤❤ if you want to post the cards I’d use spray adhesive as that will stick it all completely down, or you can use a liquid adhesive. Yes, sorry about that, I need to try and work out my camera angle, whilst I’m pretty ok at embossing I haven’t mastered videoing yet 🤣🤣 it’s exactly the same technique as the pastel one, just get the shape molten, sprinkle in some ultra high powder and swirl the cocktail stick around. I hope that helps xx
Can you use embossed buttons on clothing?
Hi Barbara, not if you want to wash them, the only powder that has stayed on with hand washing was white and black puff 🥰🥰🥰
Hello Marion, cannot find the opaque bright white ultra high granules....where do I find it please....???? Thank Ursula
Hi Ursula, when you click the link, it give you a drop down box that says grade size, you can choose, super fine, regular or ultra high. I hope that helps xxx
This is such a lovely project. How would you attach a brooch pin to the back so it’s secure?
Thank you Elizabeth, personally I’d use something like E600 glue, once on you could also add a little piece of fabric to glue over the pin back 🥰🥰🥰
@@marionemberson thank you for your quick reply. Also I think you said you did a previous video on this subject when you get time could you please give me the link to it. Many thanks
@@elizabethgoodhand7828 hi Elizabeth, of course. Here you go…. th-cam.com/video/bpGigev14jY/w-d-xo.html&t=
Sorry I think you may have it halfway through, just rewind to the beginning 🥰🥰
I need to go back on the first video, do you have to use the embossing ink pad to do this. Just trying to start making cards and came upon this, even though this is a year ago already.
No, not on this technique, no ink needed, I’ve just done it again in my 5 minute craft challenge series. 🥰🥰🥰
Can you use an assortment of different brands of embossing powders together?
Hi Cindy, I would stick with good quality brands, such as Ranger, Stampendous etc. I’ve not done this with any other brand, so I can only go on my experience. Xx
It uses such a small amount of powder to do one, give it a play and see! I'll be doing that when I get back from holiday. I have WOW, Ranger, Stampin' Up and Recollections. I'll for sure be combining them.😊
@@lucyc thanks Lucy, I definitely recommend WOW, Ranger and Stampendous, I haven’t tried Recollections, is that Michaels ? Xxx
Clever technique! Have you worked at all with the Tim Holtz embossing glaze?
Thank you ❤️ I haven’t, but I’m going to guess it’s the same as the WOW Translucent/primary powders. If you stamp and emboss with these on a book page, for example, you can still read the text through it. 🥰🥰
I just discovered your channel and am so in love with your amazing techniques! Such beautiful results ❤️
Thank you so much Sherry 😍😍😍
Answering your question on cocktail stick. We Ozzie's call them tooth picks. Also, where are you in UK. Hoping to visit in 24 when things have settled. Would love to visit. Glenys
Hi Glenys, I’m in Essex, I keep telling myself one day I’ll get out to Oz, but the flight 🙈🙈🙈🙈 xx

Do you ever teach classes in the US?
Hi Rick, I have done in the past, since the pandemic travel hasn’t been as easy or as cheap 😢😢 xx
Hi Marion see to get that glossy finish on the loveheart what white power did you use please as couldn't hear on your vlog xx
Hi the glossy finish was probably clear gloss on top xx
@marion emberson Yeah but which one lol. Clear gloss super fine clear gloss regular or ultra high xx
@@karenmclaughlan9128 oh I can’t remember now, I’d have to re watch the video, I’ve done a few since then 😂😂 is it not on the product list I used ?
I’m off out for the day now, making the most of a little sunshine !!! Xx
Only one I see is clear gloss ultra high wonder if it's that one. It's just to make my project super glossy xx
Enamelling finish xx
These look amazing!! Can I just ask… sometimes you re-inked between applying a layer of powder and sometimes you put powder directly on to the molten layer…is there a reason for this? I’m very new to embossing powder, still waiting for my powders to arrive!! TIA x
Hi Ruth, the simple answer is probably ‘impatience’ 🤣🤣 the powder will stick to the hot molten powder, but if it cools it won’t stick and then you can put ink on it to get to stick ready for heating. I hope that makes sense xx
So what does the pouncing actually do? I watched the other video but wasn't sure if it was to break up the areas of powder or to squash it onto the parchment paper. Or for some other reason??
Hi Arlene, the pouncing pushes the powder into the chipboard and adheres it (there’s no ink on the chipboard) it also helps it spread. I hope that helps xx
@@marionemberson thank you. I'm going to have a play tomorrow.
@@ayleneprice1999 fab, have fun xx
💖🙏🏽
Thank you xx
I have tried doing this technique with the parchment paper but it didn't work for me, the first attempt it all broke up, my second attempt it stuck to the parchment paper I just couldn't separate it from the paper and my third attempt I tried putting more powder on as I thought I wasn't laying enough down and that was even more disastrous, 😅 🙃 obviously I'm doing something wrong.
Hi Beryl, so if you’re piling your powder up on the chipboard, lay the parchment paper on top and heat through, once it’s all melted, keep the heat on with the heat tool to peel it away, the heat will help the parchment release. If it’s still in powder form just put the parchment back on and carry on heating. I hope that helps ❤❤
Thankyou so much for coming back to me and for your advice, I will give it ago 😊 ♥
@@beryledwards4407 you’re very welcome ❤❤
