      It's honestly so delicious! Another little hack that's not AS good, but still tasty is breaking up a nutri-grain bar into the oatmeal to add flavour!

    I just make myown oatmealmix. Oats, chiaseeds, vanilla protein powder, nuts/almonds, dried fruits, pint of salt and cinnamon to taste. Amounts varies accordingly to trip/calories needed.

    Dude, how about just get some muffins made up with bacon or sausage in the middle. Add honey butter or jam or real maple syrup as a dip.
    If you want to make it even quicker just get those little mini blueberry muffin packs, wrap them in pieces of bacon and dip em.

      This is a GREAT question!
      I keep mine frozen and they've been fine for over a year.
      I did just recently use some that I had kept out for a month and they were fine.
      If you need to make them last longer I HAVE heard of people using the silica packets to help keep food lasting longer. Maybe a thought to try here?!

    This would not be exactly the same, but I'm a trucker, sometimes I cook really good meals in the truck and other times I make quick meals like 1 package of cheese grits, 1 package of butter grits, and add bacon bits, then if you got powdered eggs you could add them in or have them on the side, it's a quick tasty meal

    Try using a packet of instant cream of wheat instead of one of the oatmeal. Coconut flour works for a different flavor also has about the same protein as ground almonds I think.
    Also take a little bottle of cheap vanilla. The good stuff costs too much now to use in your oatmeal

    Hello again Jesse. Dropping in to view another of your food-orientated backpacking videos since I enjoyed the "Ramen Bomb" episode. In your intro/title clip, am I seeing a limb of Mount Robson in the background?

    • @BackcountryForward
      @BackcountryForward  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will Long not Mount Robson... this is near Abraham Lake.
      Are you familiar with the Canadian Rockies?

    • @willong1000
      @willong1000 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BackcountryForward Not really Jesse. I hitchhiked down the Alaskan Highway from Fairbanks to Everett, WA in April 1970. Enthralled by the country, I was tempted to turn off the road and head into the bush quite a few times. Later that year, I made a couple trips into old mining territories in the Okanagan and Kootenai. I was really taken with Slocan district up around the old ghost town of Sandon, which was then not yet a "tourist" attraction.
      I've seen Mt. Robson only in print media and on TV programs over the years. Its profile is fairly distinctive. The bare ridge descending from right to left in your video made me think it might be a flank of Robson seen from a less visited perspective. Being a curious old fart, I had to ask.
      In my younger years, I read quite a bit about the Canadian Rockies, incidentally, in sheep hunting books by Jack O'Connor and a Canadian whose name you might recognize: Andy Russell.

    • @BackcountryForward
      @BackcountryForward  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will Long such a cool adventure!
      I myself have only seen Mt. Robson while driving. I hope to take a trip to the base of Robson next year. And in a few years I’d love to perhaps attempt to summit. But that’s a ways down to road!

    Now I have a 2nd choice for breakfast when camping and even at home.
    I cold soak my oatmeal. I start with 3/4 cup of the Old Fashion Oatmeal. Next some freeze dried Apple pieces. Then a 1/4 cup of craisans ( dried Cranberries ). For spices I use Cinnamon , Ground Clove and some Nutmeg. The amount of each is how much you would like or want. last is a heaping tea spoon of Dark Sugar and a pinch of salt. All of this is put in a Snack size zip lock bag.
    In the field I put the mix in a one pint Talenti Gelato jar with enough water to fill it to the top dark line on the Nutritional facts decal. Give it a shake and then set it aside till morning for breakfast.
    NOTE .........................:
    1. Getting the jar for cold soaking requires the camper to eat all of the ice cream to empty the jar of it's original contents , It's nasty job but someone has to do it. LOL LOL
    2. Freeze dried fruits reconstitute to the original crispness. Dehydrated fruits will reconstitute but will be mushy. they remind me of apples pieces used in a apple pie.
    3. The empty jar weighs 1.9 oz , the mix in a snack size zip lock weighs 3.4 ounces for a total weight of of 5.3 ounces.
