    AKA: HOW TO Connect a Clothesline to itself.
    About two years ago I made a short off-the-cuff video about fixing/replacing the clothesline elevator in our backyard. Ever since, I regularly get people complaining that I did not show how the winch/ratchet thing is used to join together the two ends of the clothes line.
    Okay, maybe there were not exactly clamoring hordes of fans, but after two comments, two days in a row, I decided to make ANOTHER quick off-the-cuff video showing the winch in detail.
    (and the fact that I had not posted a video in a while had nothing to do with it. Nope.)
    I guess it just seemed obvious to me, but clearly it is not obvious to everyone.

    Thank you! This exactly what I was looking for. I usually take a picture of these sorts of pieces before dismantling so I know what goes where. Very well explained.

    Art, our clothsline ends parted this afternoon, under a load of beach / swimming stuff, after another of my metal-staple munge connections gave way, so I was finally motivated to figure out how to use a clothesline metal winch connector properly. I was faaaairly sure of the right way to do it, but before tackling it on a hot afternoon (even hotter than the day you recorded this!), I wanted to be certain. As others have noted, it's surprisingly hard to find instructions / videos for this, but this was just the ticket, thank you!

    Such a useful video, thanks. My line is so cracked and rusty I'm afraid it's going to break at the rusty exposed cable soon. I believe if I get a replacement line and remove the old crank, duct tape (maybe wind fine copper wire around it) the ends together (it can be slack) then tape one end of the new line to the temporary join. I'll be able to pull the new line through the far pulley. Then crank the new ends together, and cut off the old one. The far end is way up a tree and I'm not putting a ladder up there! Think that'll work? I bet that line of yours is ready to be replaced... 🤪

    • @artmulderwastaken
      @artmulderwastaken 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it should work... don't stint on the tape... tricky as it needs to be thin to make it's way around the pulley! Mine is getting old but I can reach the other pulley pretty easily so I can just wait until it collapses. 😁

    • @lshwadchuck5643
      @lshwadchuck5643 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@artmulderwastaken Yeah, that's why I think it's worth wrapping the ends together with wire.

    This is similar to a crank for doing field fencing or barbed wire fencing.

  • @FilmerOfBobcats
    @FilmerOfBobcats 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I guess to get it really tight so that it will hold heavier laundry aloft you might have to use pliers on that tightening device.

    • @Wordsnwood
      @Wordsnwood  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      nope. you tighten it when it's empty, and once it's latched in it can't turn backwards. We load up the line with laundry and it's fine.
